Avoid Social Issues, GOP Urged (Homosexualists, Pro-Aborts Co-opt Tea Party Movement)
Politico ^ | Sunday, November 14, 2010 | Ben Smith and Byron Tau

Posted on 11/14/2010 3:38:40 PM PST by kristinn

A gay conservative group and some Tea Party leaders are campaigning to keep social issues off the Republican agenda.

In a letter to be released Monday, the group GOProud and leaders from groups like the Tea Party Patriots and the New American Patriots, will urge Republicans in the House and Senate to keep their focus on shrinking the government.

"On behalf of limited-government conservatives everywhere, we write to urge you and your colleagues in Washington to put forward a legislative agenda in the next Congress that reflects the principles of the Tea Party movement," they write to presumptive House Speaker John Boehner and Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell in an advance copy provided to POLITICO. "This election was not a mandate for the Republican Party, nor was it a mandate to act on any social issue."

The letter's signatories range from GOProud's co-founder and Chairman Christopher Barron — a member of a group encouraging Dick Cheney to run for president and who has been known to post images of his bare torso to Twitter — to Tea Party leaders with no particular interest in the gay rights movement.

As of Sunday evening, the letter had 17 signatories. They include tea party organizers, conservative activists and media personalities from across the country, including radio host Tammy Bruce, bloggers Bruce Carroll, Dan Blatt and Doug Welch, and various local coordinators for the Tea Party Patriots and other tea party groups.

"When they were out in the Boston Harbor, they weren't arguing about who was gay or who was having an abortion," said Ralph King, a letter signatory who is a Tea Party Patriots national leadership council member, as well as an Ohio co-coordinator.

King said he signed onto the letter because GOProud seemed to be genuine in pushing for fiscal conservatism and limited government.

"Am I going to be the best man at a same sex-marriage wedding? That's not something I necessarily believe in," said King. "I look at myself as pretty socially conservative. But that's not what we push through the Tea Party Patriots."

That indifference is essentially the point of the gay conservative group.

TEXT OF LETTER

Dear Senator McConnell and Representative Boehner

On behalf of limited government conservatives everywhere we write to urge you and your colleagues in Washington to put forward a legislative agenda in the next Congress that reflects the principles of the Tea Party movement.

Poll after poll confirms that the Tea Party’s laser focus on issues of economic freedom and limited government resonated with the American people on Election Day. The Tea Party movement galvanized around a desire to return to constitutional government and against excessive spending, taxation and government intrusion into the lives of the American people.

The Tea Party movement is a non-partisan movement, focused on issues of economic freedom and limited government, and a movement that will be as vigilant with a Republican-controlled Congress as we were with a Democratic-controlled Congress.

This election was not a mandate for the Republican Party, nor was it a mandate to act on any social issue, nor should it be interpreted as a political blank check.

Already, there are Washington insiders and special interest groups that hope to co-opt the Tea Party’s message and use it to push their own agenda – particularly as it relates to social issues. We are disappointed but not surprised by this development. We recognize the importance of values but believe strongly that those values should be taught by families and our houses of worship and not legislated from Washington, D.C.

We urge you to stay focused on the issues that got you and your colleagues elected and to resist the urge to run down any social issue rabbit holes in order to appease the special interests.

The Tea Party movement is not going away and we intend to continue to hold Washington accountable. Sincerely,

Christopher R Barron

LOL, I have to laugh. Folks you can’t do anything without money in this country.

Not anything close to true.

You are a hedonist. Your lifestyle is centered around pleasures and things.

I spent much of my life living out of two seabags and an alice pack. I am okay with a spartan life. I am not an anomaly among social conservatives.

Now, you may be focussed on trying to fight for money first and social issues as an after thought (that is what it is called when you don't do a thing until all your other goals are achieved) but what you lack the perspective and experience to understand is that social conservatives will intentionally vote for a third party if necccesary to support what we believe are the most important things, and we are quite willing to do that even if we and you lose all of our fancy possessions in the process.

There is a segment of the population you do not comprehend that likes nice things - but not more than unborn children or the right to determine what their kids are taught or who they may have as a room mate or what they are allowed to eat in a restaurant.

We need to have razor sharp focus on the main issues that will destroy this country. Our financial solvency is the number one issue. Social security, medicaid and all other out of control wasteful expenditures will bankrupt us. Then what? No one will care about anything but finding a way to support their families, that is a simple truth.

Victory at the ballot box has always been my plan B. I would like it, but I dont expect it. See living out of two seabags and an alice pack, or dying in combat. That was the way it wen't in the 1770s - through 1783 actually. Although I have done my time, God never guaranteed me a retirement, or a life of peace.

If you look around on veterans day, you will find that I am in no way unique, nor am I some paragon. I simply am representative of a very different value system and set of priorities than you have.

Comptomise is not an option.

That’s a good way to get overrun on the social front and have the entire line threatened.

Are you suggesting the government is the tool to exercise God’s will? I’m certain the founders would not agree with you. If people are unwilling to submit to the Lord then they deserve their fate.

>>I certainly don’t want government to enforce his behavior.

“TO SECURE THESE RIGHTS, governments are instituted among men”

To secure them from whom? From those individuals whose animalistic urges are not self-controlled? From those whose unconstrained behavior would manifest a Fatal Liberality upon us all?

Those who do not learn from the past will repeat it.

I don’t know about you, but I prefer not to experience the insanity of Calligula’s or Nero’s Rome.

wrong, how many issues did congress settle last session? They can only resolve a handful of issues per cycle. The next cycle needs to be about getting the government under control, that means spending.

The Log Cabin Repugs admitted that most of them are actually Dems. Most homosexuals vote Dem, because most of them are leftists, and most of them support the leftist homosexual agenda. Now when you say you didn’t vote for him, does that mean you didn’t vote for him even though you’re a member of the Log Cabins?

The “gay” rights movement was started by Harry Hay, who was a communist. He patterned the “gay rights struggle” on the “class struggle” of communism.

If our lawmakers were obeying the constitution, they would not feel the need to award special rights and funding to behaviors - like buggery.

Ignoring social issues would be stripping multicultural, abortion and homosexual funding from the budget so as not to impose any one group’s social ideology upon another group.

So are we to use your list? What would you have them do, assuming they have enough money to do anything in the future? What happens if the progressives take over completely, how quickly do you think they’ll institute their values?

You don’t know history. The founders were fine with state laws against obscenity, sodomy and public drunkenness, to just pick a few.

Obviously no one should be forced to believe in God, worship Him or serve Him in any way.

But the basic foundation of human civilization are the moral absolutes that are oddly enough practically the same in every monotheist religion and even ones that aren’t such as Buddhism.

You are mixing the two, which is blindness on your part.

I respect your purist vision but politics is a game of chess not checkers. Cause and effect, NO coin means no power. Rome faced serious problems when it couldn’t fund it’s army.

The reality is without money the government shuts down, people go home and wait until congress approves a new budget. There are millions of people that make up our government. You cannot control a government of that size no matter how much you will it to. Politicians tell us what they want to happen, what actually happens is an entirely different matter.

You don’t know anything about me and should be careful mounting a personal attack on this forum.

I’m all for the states enforcing what they deem necessary. That is well within the realm of our constitutional structure. So I’m not disagreeing with you.

I know enough history to know we are on a path to ruin.

I agree... You beat me to the punch on that observation!

How can one ignore “social” issues, when “social” issues COST THE TAXPAYER MONEY?

Who pays for abortion? How many abortions are covered by insurance or government welfare? How many more may we expect via Obamacare?

Sexual perversion causes disease, and not just AIDS. A great many more “nasty things” inhabit the bodies of homosexuals and lesbians due to their perverted sexual practices. How will the unobstructed rise of these diseases, due to ignoring our nation’s “social issues” impact medical care and insurance costs for those who live within the bounds of normal sexual behavior, particularly with the advent of socialized medicine and the insistence that “pre-existing conditions” not be excluded from coverage or considered a dis-qualifier? And yes, their is a defined “normalcy” in sexuality... homosexual acts do not fall within that scope.

Lets consider the loss of national productivity that must be attributed to the increase in abortions. We are barely maintaining replacement population (mostly through illegal immigration); so what happens when all the baby boomers retire, and America’s workforce (ages 17-60)is reduced to a mere 14 percent of the population? Thank you to all the pro-abortion (or “let’s not consider abortion” advocates) who have contributed to the downfall of our culture and country!

I am a founding member of the TEA Party Patriots of SW Nebraska. And I sure as hell do not approve of this letter! You cannot promote prosperity at the expense of morality. One requires the other. God is not mocked. The Constitution may be document of incredible insight, but it is not supreme over God’s Law. Freedom requires responsible behavior... Abortion and sodomy do not qualify, and ignoring the consequences of both will result in our downfall.

The problem is the government IS in the business of enforcing Godlessness and immorality and they need to be taken back out of it.
They are enforcing the homosexual agenda on every front and it is getting worse, they are intruding in our right to worship and that is getting worse also.
I do not want the government enforcing the homosexual agenda and atheism or every religion except Christianity.

Constantly harping on leaving these issues out is exactly the problem that got us here in the first place. We have let them go to far already. People have been backing down to these issues for too long. The TEA party is not just about money. It is about being sick of turning into decadent Rome before the fall, or any other power that fell all throughout history, Biblical and non. Immorality from a lack of Fear of the Lord comes first, before the fatal fiscal corruption. Without the respect for the ultimate authority of God, there is no respect.

If you cannot see this happening then you still have scales on your eyes and nothing anyone says will reach you. your heart will have to be softened by one more powerful than I.

I am not calling for a theocracy, just an adherance to the intent of our founding documents would be nice.
Hopefully it isn't too far gone, I try not to be in comlete dispair now that my eyes are a little more open.

"I KNOW BUT ONE CODE OF MORALITY FOR MEN
WHETHER ACTING SINGLY OR COLLECTIVELY"
--
Thomas Jefferson

The morality of the founders was rooted in the ability of the Individual, for whom Almighty God hath Created the Mind Free, to see the self-evident TRUTH for themselves. TRUTH such as the negative impact upon the sociobiological fitness of EVERY society that has normalized the abomination of nature.

Furthermore, the self-evident Truth that I see, is that the moral miscreants who've signed their names to this Tea Cup Putsch -- can not be trusted with power any more than their predecessors who instigated Nazi Germany into existence.

And if you're worried about filling your own gullet while the process of keeping them out of power ensues; then I suggest you join the FR Gardening Ping list and learn to feed yourself while protecting what you grow with firearms and the support of like-minded conservative neighbors -- instead of rolling over and peeing all over the floor in submission like a woosefied poodle.

The Tea Party movement is about getting fake conservatives like these out of the Republican Party and, failing that, creating a replacement party.

These people need to be denounced and ignored.
