Republicans Love 'Modern Family,' Democrats Favor 'Dexter,' New Study Shows
by Chris Harnick, posted Nov 10th 2010 10:45AM
'Modern Family,' a seemingly liberal show about a blended family -- with a gay couple and adopted kids -- is among the favorites of Republicans. Say what?
According to a new study by Experian Simmons, Republicans favor many of TV's biggest hits such as 'Modern Family,' 'American Idol' and 'Dancing With the Stars.' On the Democrat side, TV favorites include cable shows like 'Dexter' and 'Mad Men.'
"The big shows with mass appeal tend to have above-average scores from Democrats and Republicans but with higher concentrations of Republicans," John Fetto, senior marketing manager at Experian Simmons, told The Hollywood Reporter. "Looking at the Democrats side, I don't mean to make light of it, but they seem to like shows about damaged people. Those are the kind of shows Republicans just stay away from."
Unsurprisingly, the top show for Republicans is 'Glenn Beck' and 'Countdown With Keith Olbermann' for Democrats. But who knew Democrats favored 'Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami'?

I never miss Mad Men, The Good Wife, SVU, and Breaking Bad, on the rat list, fascinating.
Modern Family’s my favorite show - so well written and funny and also manages this difficult tightrope of being heartfelt w/o being cloyingly sweet.
The co-creator of the show is the son of David Lloyd, who wrote the classic Chuckles the Clown episode of MTM. He’s definitely carrying on his father’s tradition and talent.
I forgot Breaking Bad. I’ve missed the most current season. Excellent show!!!
God bless
I still tune into Get Smart when I can find it or Tivo it.
We have watched that at times as well...

The last series I really liked was BBC’s ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. It was made in the 70’s or 80’s. Really quaint, brings one back to a simpler time. One other thing I really liked a show probably 10 years ago, called, I think, ‘A day in their lives’. I think it was the the History channel, and the premise was they’d find the diary of a conquistador or something, and dramatize it.

You sound like me, I just don’t have the attention span anymore to sit down and devote myself to a series week in and week out, it takes too much time to get invested in a series, these days. It seems like now every show is a mini-series, where if you miss a show or two, you have to catch up before watching the current episode....Feh!
He could have a point. I will watch shows about flawed people who are dealing with those flaws. I will not watch shows about damaged people who have been defeated by their flaws, or worse don't recognise them (Looking at you here NaOnka)
Personal list
"Republican shows" Survivor, NCIS, Lie To Me, How I met You Mother
"Democrat shows" The Good Wife
