MSNBC's Ratigan, cartoonist Ted Rall hints at violent revolution

On Monday, MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan seemed to suggest the time may be right for violent revolution in the United States.

While interviewing liberal cartoonist Ted Rall, the host appeared to support the idea. Lachlan Markay of Newsbusters quoted the host:

"Are things in our country so bad that it might actually be time for a revolution?" Ratigan asked. "The answer obviously is yes," he added, and "the only question is how to do it."

Rall was promoting his book, "The Anti-American Manifesto", where he calls for violent revolution. Ed Morrissey of Hot Air posted an excerpt from the book:

We are here because the U.S. is going to end soon. There’s going to be an intense, violent, probably haphazard struggle for control. It’s going to come down to us versus them. The question is: What are you going to do about it?…

Christian fundamentalists, the millennial end-of-theworlders obsessed with the Left Behind series about the End Times, neo-Nazi racists, rural black-helicopter Michigan Militia types cut from the same inbred cloth as Timothy McVeigh, allied with “mainstream” gun nuts and right-wing Republicans, have been planning, preparing, and praying for the destruction of the “Godless,” “secular” United States for decades. In the past, they formed groups like the John Birch Society and the Aryan Nations. Now the hard Right has a postmodern, decentralized non-organization organization called the Tea Party.

Right-wing organizational names change, but they amount to the same thing: the reactionary sociopolitical force—the sole force—poised to fill the vacuum when collapse occurs. The scenario outlined by Margaret Atwood’s prescient novel The Handmaid’s Tale—rednecks in the trenches, hard military men running things, minorities and liberals taken away and massacred, setting the stage for an even more extreme form of laissez-faire corporate capitalism than we’re suffering under today—is a fair guess of how a post-U.S. scenario will play out unless we prepare to turn it in another direction…

A war is coming. At stake: our lives, the planet, freedom, living. The government, the corporations, and the extreme right are prepared to coalesce into an Axis of Evil. Are you going to fight back? Will you do whatever it takes, including taking up arms?

From this excerpt, one gets the impression that Rall is calling for a civil war between liberals and conservatives - specifically the Tea Party, and he appears to openly call for liberals to take up arms against anyone on the right.

When Sharron Angle spoke of a "2nd Amendment solution" to the nation's problems, liberal media outlets like MSNBC went berserk. But Ratigan appeared to be okay with liberals taking to the streets in open, armed conflict.

In early October, Rall expressed support for a communist-style dictatorship in the United States in an interview with washingtoncitypaper.com.

In that interview, he said Thomas Jefferson was the American leader he admired the most. However, the man who helped create America's founding documents would probably not support a communist dictatorship.

In the interview with Ratigan, Rall ironically quoted John Locke; "It's up to the people. John Locke said, the people have an obligation to revolt when their government's fails.

Markay noted the irony:

That's right, Rall quoted the philosopher arguably most influential among American revolutionaries to suggest that another revolution would be justified. Gee, that sure sounds a lot like Tea Party protesters holding up signs demanding we "water the tree of liberty" - with the blood of patriots and tyrants, as Thomas Jefferson famously said.

Apparently, liberals calling for violent revolution and a Soviet-style communist dictatorship in the United States is okay with the hosts at MSNBC, but conservatives who want a return to Constitutional principles are radical.

I think liberals need to remember who believes in GUN OWNERSHIP and why. That should cool their temper tantrum about a violent revolt!

Lefties advocating an armed revolt?

The term "target rich environment" comes to mind.

Remember the Abraham Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War? At least back then, communists actually picked up a gun and fought for their beliefs. Certainly not the case today. I don’t recall any of them in 2003 saying “Let’s go to Iraq and resist US imperialism.”

I originally wanted the 16 and did my research. $1800 is a lot of money but I wanted the best.

I have the 18” and I love it. 2” @100yrds using surplus but 1” using Rem or Win.

I have shot the russion steel casings as well and the grouping is 1 or 2” inches depending on my mood I think. Can’t figure what the difference is.

That’s steel sight BTW. I love the gun the way it is. My brother wants me to junk it up with all kinds of voodoo stuff but I shoot as good as he does using an AIM off his AR.

Besides I have other scoped guns most using the Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x40mm and that thing makes holes bigger every time you shoot through it. Yes, I am talking about the optics. Crap for scope, shit for shot. Me no Likey.

Anyway, Socom Scout 16” and I don’t remember the twist. Something like 1.10 or 1.11.

Favorite rifle ever. But I love the Garand type rifles. Easier sighting than traditional sights, for me.

Oh, and back to why you are not getting the performance you want.

Try relaxing your forehead and shooting eye. Just them kind of be there.

Lay your trigger hand on the stock and place your thumb over it to stabilize. Don’t grip it, don’t squeeze it.

Place your finger on the trigger and think of scratching something.

The object being to relax and be there with the rifle.

Now breathing deliberately and slowly, as if your are measuring your breath on the inhale narrow your vision to the target.

Exhale and scratch the trigger as your vision narrows further.

Most probs aren’t the gun it’s the shooter. You may have a crappy gun but most of the time if we focus on our technique our accuracy improves.

I got my distinguished expert in service rifle back when they still shot M-14s. I still had my brother shoot it, just to make sure. He won a 300m rifle world championship, and was in the International Section with the USAMU. Trust me. It was the gun.

Could be.

I was cautioned against the 16 for my purpose which was to range my target. I forget why.

First day I took mine to the range, the range master, an old man said “Good Luck. I don’t see many of them shoot good”.

I started at 50 and heard over the intercom “Lane 7! Up 5 clicks!”.

Turned around and he motioned to me. Brought it up 5 and had my zero. Wrote it down.

Went to the 100 he again came over the speaker. I think he said 2 clicks but I was definitely on zero. Wrote it on the side of the rifle.

Guy was terrific and he came over at the end of the day surprised at the performance. He repeated he didn’t see many of those rifles shoot any good but maybe I got lucky.

Told him I would have sent the thing back if it sucked and he said he might tell the others to do that.

Went over to the handgun range and pulled my Kimber Tac II out of the backside of my voodoo bag and he laughed saying I had expensive taste.

I said not really I have a few tools that I absolutely trust and both my Kimbers, the Rem M1A and my 700 are my favorite guns. Although I am starting to like my 770 but it really beats on my shoulder. A guy gave me a buttstock pad to slip over and fixed my little problem. Nice guy.

I had begun to go from 1” to 5” as I was anticipating the pain and flinching. Got it back down to 2” but my shoulder was already geeked.

Went last week and no problemo. Back to 1”. Thinking about handing the bolt to the local gunsmith and seeing if he can come up with something smoother and maybe install an adjustable butt stock.

The Left cracks me up - last summer and this year also, they were fake-panicing over the possibility of gun-toting, bible-thumping Tea Party folks inciting violence - and now, they incite violence themselves as an ‘ok’ thing to do

The left is mentally ill; there is no doubt left now.

The reason the Ted Rall’s of the world get away with this crap is because the cowards hide behind the document we swore to protect with our lives.

The Ted Rall’s of the world need to be taken out and beaten senseless which would be an improvement over their current mental state.

This scumbag is exactly the kind of commie bastards we started taking down last Tuesday. Now we need to continue the job on through 2012 and take as many more of them down as possible.

Well said.

Identify the totalitarian, isolate the totalitarian, destroy the totalitarian.

November 2012. Vote.

Life, liberty and the pursuit and destruction of totalitarians.

liberals taking to the streets in open, armed conflict.

When did liberals ever do this in the entire history of the world?

We also have a good edge on muscles and bulk, at least compared to these weasel weaklings bragging about “violence” (in Dylan Rattigan’s mind, apparently).

“An provocative title and ridiculous premise used to sell books? You don’t say.”

Really; “Notice me!”

Free Republic should be above mentioning the likes of this salesman and others like him. We can prepare without helping in another media creation (like Al Sharpton).

“Liberals that I know around here also tell me that many of their liberal friends own guns.”

I will bet a lot of money that these weapons are to protect them from “less well-off liberals”, if you know what I mean.

“Remember the Abraham Lincoln Brigade during the Spanish Civil War? At least back then, communists actually picked up a gun and fought for their beliefs.”

The Abraham Lincoln Brigade was mostly self-created myth, ineffective in battle and dealing with desertions as soon as they were in real combat with the Spanish regulars. Some of the European International Brigades were fairly effective (with meny combat veterans in their ranks), but the Abraham Lincoln Brigades were composed of political agitators, not soldiers, and it showed. Granted, they were willing to go, but after a short time in the war they were ready to return to NYC...

On the other hand it is confirmation from the Left that the 2nd Amendment exists to preserve individual liberty.
