Implicitly acknowledging the decline of American dominance, Barack Obama on Sunday said the US was no longer in a position to "meet the rest of the world economically on our terms".
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Mumbai, he said, "I do think that one of the challenges that we are going face in the US, at a time when we are still recovering from the financial crisis is, how do we respond to some of the challenges of globalisation? The fact of the matter is that for most of my lifetime and I'll turn 50 next year - the US was such an enormously dominant economic power, we were such a large market, our industry, our technology, our manufacturing was so significant that we always met the rest of the world economically on our terms. And now because of the incredible rise of India and China and Brazil and other countries, the US remains the largest economy and the largest market, but there is real competition."

“Our fall began decades ago. NAFTA took away a lot of our manufacturing.”
I hate to admit this but Ross Perot was right back in 1992...”..that giant sucking sound...” has been American jobs leaving for low-wage second and third world $hitholes.
“Free Trade” was (and still isn’t) “free”..it’s always been “managed trade.” Corporations have fled to “low cost” countries and the result is the coming demise of the American Middle Class...we’re humped.
I’m sick of this guy running around the world telling them how awful the United States is and how he’s going to send them our money to make it all better.
Why haven't you heard? He's the perfect post-American Harvard man! He doesn't even like America, much less Harvard!
Let’s recall this idiot. Just because his minions lost an election, it’s no reason for us to lose our country.
I have always had a lot of respect for India and Indian people. They are intelligent and hardworking.
American Exceptionalism
To heck with American Exceptionalism. What I would like to see is American keep its nose at home and build up the country and its borders. Good defensive tactics. I could care less what is going on overseas.

Karma is coming karma is coming karma is coming.
I figure if I say it often enough I can last to 2012.
Interesting piece, but the poster exemplifies two Indian vanities.
This desire for equality; that’s bunkum thinking, the US is a HyperPower, India a middling regional one.
And the last, the threat of we will get you when we are a superpower......again, a slightly juvenile aspect of this particular form of Indian Zeitgeist.
IMO, the first is fantasy, the second juvenile.
This type of screed essentially makes all the valid points about Pakistan, the Trade thingie drown in the petulant tantrum of the opening and end.
She's so vivacious and full of life everytime I see her!
If I were here, I wouldn't be interested in running for office. She's got everything right where she is. Great family, great money, great looks, power, influence and can take potshots at the left all day every day!
I prefer her as a free-agent! :)
Godspeed

International relations are not some parliamentary exercise.

India can have him. We’ll outsource his job!! Stay over there, creep!!

This idea that India's economic improvements mean the U.S. has lost its exceptionalism is absurd.
Barry makes me physically ill.
Bill Clinton made me ill but this guy is even worst...
PRIDE, DIGNITY, RESPECT, HONOR, CHARACTER, INTEGRITY, CLASS...Characteristics of a good POTUS...B.Hussein O. lacks them ALL.
Because of union, regulatory, legal and tax stymies on American incentive.
