African-American group backs Danny Davis for mayor (OF CHICAGO)
Chicago Breaking News ^ | November 6, 2010 5:52 PM

After two months of closed-door meetings, a coalition of African-American leaders has settled on U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., as its "consensus candidate" for Chicago mayor.

It was a late turnaround for the veteran congressman, who was not among the two finalists the Chicago Coalition for Mayor said they were considering endorsing a week ago to succeed Mayor Richard Daley.

Another interesting turn of events following Tom Dart dropping out and Moseley-Braun's attack on Rahm.

Rahm’s going to lose because he’s Jewish. Too many Chicago blacks are virulently anti-semetic for him to win. Freepers who don’t believe that just need to look to the very influential Rev. Wright’s “church” and how politically powerful the Nation of Islam is in Chicago.

It’s interesting how Meeks, speaking of churches, may end up being the odd man out.

Now that they’ve decided, there is no point in having an election.

Let’s see how race relations have improved since Obama became President. Here we ahve a bunch of “black leaders” who get together and select a concensus candidate, and of course, the first requirement is that he has to be black! I wonder how the Chicago voters will feel once they see this, and how the final breakdown of votes who show for mayor of Chicago. Being that Chicago is one of the most liberal cities, let’s just see how inclusive, multi-cultural, and non-race based liberals are! Get the popcorn ready!

How old is Davis? He’s gotta be in his 70’s?

Yeah - he’s closing in on 70 but looks a lot older (and no wiser.) He ran for mayor about 20 years ago and Daley kicked his ass back to the West Side.

The working southern blacks over 50 are reachable. I have never met one who was not open to a friendly hand.

Quite the predicament for 0bama. Will he endorse Danny Davis or his ex-Chief of Staff?

Barack Obama will endorse Robert Emmett Tyrrell Jr., for the sake of political diversity.

Rahm again. Davis might just be the one candidate worse than Rahm.

Braun stays in and she and Davis split the black vote.

Rahm coasts in as mayor with the white and hispanic vote.

If Daley’s Machine works for Rahm blacks will vote for him. Daley’s appointed more than half the black aldermen IIRC.

Oh just when I thought this state couldn't get any worse. I could tolerate Daley as Mayor maybe because he was a White Sox fan and I liked seeing him at games and I like what he did with the Museums and compared to other cities Chicago is much cleaner.

Danny Davis would be a horrendous Mayor he thinks he's entitled to it because he is black.

Fortunately, I don't live in Chicago I would have supported Tom Dart, but if it came down to Rahm, Mosley Fraud and Davis I would support Rahm. Danny Davis would turn the whole city into a cesspool and the gang bangers would run wild. He would only appoint blacks to every position just like Todd Stroger.

I wouldn't trust Danny Davis to run a hot dog stand!

Daley has done a lot of good things in Chicago. He cleaned up the area around the United Center, tore down the Robert Taylor Homes, cleaned up Bridgeport, kept the city clean (as in cleanliness not sleazy politics).

As much as I personally despise Rahm Emmanuel and think he is a creep, he is the only candidate that is qualified to run this city. I think it's sad they threw Meeks under the bus. That's Chicago politics for you.

Now you see the brilliance of Rahm’s latest move. He’s obviously thought this out and had a heads up from Daley.

The Feds must have cut Daley a deal. Resign and we won’t prosecute. Benefits of having a friend in the WH.

So Rahm’s done what politicians do best. When given a choice between dry poop and diarrhea what will voters choose?

One group of liberal blacks backs a black liberal running for political office over a whitey liberal. Are we supposed to be shocked?
