US Senator Sees 'Confrontation' With China, War With Iran

HALIFAX, Canada(AFP) - The United States faces a possible war with Iran to curb its nuclear ambitions and a "period of confrontation" with China over its currency, a top US lawmaker warned Saturday.

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham said his fellow conservative, fresh from their historic elections romp this week, support "bold" action to deal with Iran.

If President Barack Obama "decides to be tough with Iran beyond sanctions, I think he is going to feel a lot of Republican support for the idea that we cannot let Iran develop a nuclear weapon," he told the Halifax International Security Forum.

"The last thing America wants is another military conflict, but the last thing the world needs is a nuclear-armed Iran... Containment is off the table."

The South Carolina Republican saw the United States going to war with the Islamic republic "not to just neutralize their nuclear program, but to sink their navy, destroy their air force and deliver a decisive blow to the Revolutionary Guard, in other words neuter that regime."

Lindsey is sure feeling frisky today.

But I don't know how he figures that the great Obambi will authorize waging war on his beloved co-religionists.

Wow this is like the third article in the last few weeks talking about war with Iran I doubted omuslim would do it but then again look at Afghanistan and his secret war in Pakistan.

Some others are suggesting it as an economic fix as well I would have liked to see something done before they get the Nukes operating. I see one of clinton’s people is saying ozero needs an event like the OK City bombing maybe he will do Iran instead.

What does this creep hope to accomplish with these statements??

Graham needs to shut his piehole as far as I’m concerned and concentrate on reversing some of the sewage that’s been dumped on the American people. This is not the time to be beating a drum. We are stretched thin as it is...what an idiot.

If President Barack Obama decides to be tough with Iran beyond sanctions

Graham is delusional. Obama is a comfortable with the idea of Iran having nuclear weapons as Graham is in his loafers.

It’s a pathetically weak argument for the WaPo writer to insinuate we should go to war to boost the economy. I’ve got an idea. Let’s strap him in an F-16 and let him be the first to fly through their new S300 air defenses.

Don’t get me wrong. I support whatever has to be done with Iran. But I despise the idea of Obama doing it to get the people behind him or to boost the economy.

The reality is that it could be the final nail in the dollar’s coffin, if it’s not put there beforehand by the coming 600 billion dollar “infusion”.

I suspect this India trip has more to do with war than peace. Poor BO.

We are probably parking a lot of material out in the Indian Ocean in prep for war with Pak and Iran- and help support India against Chinese mischief

I agree and anything that Obama does should be judged with suspicion. He has no values, no core beliefs -- except those that I strongly oppose and disagree with!

Re: the dollar, my gold and silver holdings have certainly appreciated in the last week. Besides oil hitting the ceiling, and the dollar plummeting, we are in for some bad economic news in the coming months. It only gets worse...

I think that Lindsay may be in for a big surprise when he discovers that the new batch of Republicans in Congress don’t all subscribe to the idea of Republicans as “The War Party”.

Really? Who? The article speculated on unsourced, unspecified new-elects, I took it for typical AP bias.

And what’s to be done about Iran if the republicans don’t have the stomach for further war actions?

There is a big difference between "stomach" and "brains". Only an idiot goes in spoiling for another war when the country is both broke and sick of these wars that seem to never end. That isn't why they were sent to DC and they know it. And they shouldn't let morons like Graham, with his false bravado, get them off track. If there are obvious signs that national security is at stake, they'll do what they have to, but they weren't sent to DC to fix the world -- they were sent there to fix DC!
