The rise of the Tea Party movement shows "democracy works ," former President George W. Bush says in an interview to air Tuesday night on Fox News' "Hannity."

"Here's what I see. I see democracy working. People are expressing a level of frustration or concern and they're getting involved in the process," Bush told Sean Hannity in advance of the release Tuesday of his memoir, "Decision Points."

"And the truth of the matter is, democracy works in America," Bush said.

Well, you should not have felt good about believing lies about a man you have reason to believe is totally honorable.

The left is combing through the book right now, snipping out bits they think are negative and putting them out there for fools to believe (I’m not calling you a fool).

They are also reporting stories from anonymous sources about what Bush said in private supposedly to other anonymous sources.

Why should he spend his time denying lies and rumors. You either trust him or you don’t.

As he once famously said, “you’re either with us or you’re against us.”

“”The US Constitution works....
Yes! It must be preserved at all costs.”

Sure, but who really believes in it? Bush ignored large parts of the Bill of Rights and people went along with it because they felt like it was necessary for national security. Even some Freepers tend to forget that there’s more to the constitution than the Second Amendment.

Well, I don’t agree with you there. Ann Richards was a total lib and not a very nice person.

I was thrilled when Dubya beat her, and they said it couldn’t be done.

What were you doing with your time before Dr Deb wasted so much of it?

Sounds like you were emptying out your medicine cabinet or maybe the wine cellar.

For crying out loud! Will somebody PLEASE inform Mr. Bush that the United States is NOT a “Democracy”! This nation is a REPUBLIC! A Constitutional REPUBLIC!

I am sure he does too... And that is the reason why I get agitated every time he (or anyone else) describes this nation in terms of a “Democracy.” Whether such terms are used as a noun, an adjective, or a adverb makes little difference. It is flat out wrong to ascribe the term “Democracy” to the United States... in any capacity.

“I never said spending was conservative. It most certainly isn’t. But spending too much doesn’t negate the FACTS that President Bush ... cut taxes and never raised them.”

Cutting taxes, raising spending and giving us massive deficits is not conservative-—it’s a recipe for financial disaster. Bush provided the platform for a new kind of Republican thinking, summed up by Cheney’s assertion that “Reagan taught us that deficits don’t matter.” It became fashionable for supposed conservatives to assert that deficits of hundreds of billions of dollars were not a matter of concern.

Remember that a Republican congress forced Clinton to hold down spending and eventually brought the US to a point where we were paying down the national debt. Bush took a Republican congress and led us to eight years of massive deficit spending, adding about $5 trillion in IOU’s. There’s nothing conservative about that.

Yeah, i root for them except when they play the Bucks. Unfortunately my end of the state is turning more and more blue due to proximity to Illinois and unions. People are nice and cost of living is reasonable. Also, because we got hammered back in the 80’s when the ag/construction implement business took a hit - again unions cutting their nose off to spite their face - the economy diversified enough that we have not felt the pain other parts of the country have felt - but i’m afraid our time is coming.

And America hung on by a thread for two years of leftist chaos because of Roberts and Alito.

Yeah, tell that to the Chrysler bond holders. Or did your talking points not include that information yet?

You might try responding to what a poster actually says rather than attack the whole universe beyond what they said.

I said Laura never led anyone to believe she was a conservative. Therefore anyone who only recently discovered this about her and became recently disappointed in her has been clueless about her all along.

Why should anyone set themselves up for disappointment about Laura? Her life has been an open book for all to see. She lives a personally conservative life - she carried two babies while being so ill with the pregnancy she was hospitalized in Dallas (lived in Midland, so W had to commute to be with her), when she could’ve had an abortion.

Unfortunately she came from a Democrat family and from a religiously liberal denomination that officially supports Roe v Wade. Therefore she supports abortion rights even though she refused to have one at her own risk.

This has been knowable about her from the get go.

She was, however, wonderfully suited to the role of First Lady.

People who disagree with her on some things nevertheless agree on her superb tenure in the WH for 8 years.

You can respect or disrespect anyone you choose. Doesn’t bother me a bit.

What is ludicrous is to ignore the known facts about someone and then proclaim your “woe is me” disappointment in them when you finally face the reality that was there all along.

Actually, the reason the TEA party is active is because our DEMOCRACY is NOT working.

Look at the balance sheet.

Sorry, rovian, I've had enough of your projection and insults.

When you grow out of your groupthink state, let me know, and we'll talk. You'll find that thinking for yourself is freeing and not as confining as the lemming state. I highly recommend it.

Have a blessed Lord's Day.

Well, hopefully the Tea Party/Republican/Conservative congressmen can put in stopgap measures to halt the leftist decline of the economy, and the Bush era prosperity can return.

It's rough here in Ohio, which is why we turned bright red last Tuesday. Hopefully things will start turning around all over.

(I have a brother who lived in Forest City for a number of years. They loved Iowa).

I always rooted for Laura Bush, just until she recently confirmed her pro choice views. Yes I always suspected she was but had no proof.

She kind of spoke in code when she said “George and I do not agree on everything” It was always widely understood by many that`s what she was referring to.

But I always chose to not believe it. I heard her in her own words in several interviews in the last few months. There is no doubt now whatsoever.

See post 132 on this thread, the poster tells me this was always known about her.

Go to Google and punch in the phrase...”Laura Bush on abortion” and you will get multiple recent quotes from her on this very subject.

I believe (not 100% certain) that she is for gay marriage also...I am open to correction on that.

These are not things she was totally open about as the First Lady. Yes it had been whispered all along that she was pro choice/pro abortion (imho there is no difference between the 2) but I had no hard fact on it, so I always gave her the benefit of the doubt.

She also recently spoke glowingly of Obama`s to recent picks to the High Court.

But for the record you will find no history of me making unflattering remarks about Laura Bush prior to the last month. George W Bush has been one of my hero`s, yes I doubted him when I heard about the remarks he may have made about Sarah Palin...

To me he needs to correct the record if they are untrue. I do not have to follow blindly after someone without ever saying...I wonder if maybe he perhaps did.

My user name is Friend of George, my prior name was Presidents Friend. I never spoke a bad word about W in all that time, I got beaten up for defending him many times, I never said a mean word about his wife until I heard her up front views on abortion.

At this moment I am not 100 % certain that GW did not say unflattering words about Sarah...I am human sue me :)

I read your comments to txrangerette that you copied to me as hostile, because I have said very negative things about Laura Bush on 2 occasions recently. BTW the only unflattering things I have ever said about her happened in the last couple weeks.

BTW Ronald Reagan said unflattering things about the pro life movement according to his post Presidency notes, I called him on that. I also questioned why he according to his notes never regretted appointing Sandra Day O to the Supreme Court. And why he wanted her to have a prominent roll at his funeral that he planned.

I think Sandra Day O was not a lady, why did he feel so good about her.

Laura Bush thinks Sandra Day was wonderful.

This is how my mind works.

I wont bother you again, but you did say in one post that Laura was open minded and a bleeding heart. We were speaking of abortion, atleast that`s the Only thing I was speaking about in regards to Laura Bush, the Only thing I have against her, just that it`s a BIGGY.

So let me ask you this...what is bleeding heart and/or open minded about supporting anothers so called right to suck the brains out of a unborn child?

I am sure ABSOLUTELY that you do not support that, just asking what is opened minded/bleeding heart about that?

For the record I am a bleeding heart in many areas, I am sick about the slaughter of dogs and cats at dog pounds/shelters/spca`s around the world for an example, so I may be a bleeding heart as well. My Pal Mark Levin and I are alike.

But I do not see how open mind/bleeding heart somehow comes in to play regarding sucking the brains out of a child, or even supporting an others so called right to suck the brains out of a child.

I can hear you again saying, you are changing the subject or putting words in your mouth as you suggested prior... I have only been talking about abortion in regards to Laura Bush, I have no problem with her in any other area, that`s the only issue I was speaking of.

As for being raised in a liberal church as being an excuse for anybody that holds anti life views, I do not buy that for a moment, in fact you do not even have to be a Christian to be against abortion.

Many non Christians are against abortion.

Sie sagte: “The US Constitution works....”

For the entire 71 years that I have been on this planet, the Federal Government has been in violation of that document. Hard to make a strong case for it working when it cannot constrain the entity created by it.

However, if oath-breakers were remanded to the gibbet until the crows ate their worthless carcass and their worthless bones fell through the bars.....
Oh... That’s right... Cruel & unusual punishment is banned by that same document. Even for those who break their oaths to protect and defend it.
