'I blame Karl Rove'
STG News ^ | 11/3/10 | William Way, Jr.

Posted on 11/04/2010 4:30:30 AM PDT by Dr. Scarpetta

There is a singular event that shoved the Republican Senate car over the cliff.

That event was the primary victory of Christine O'Donnell. This morning she used a phrase that is right on the money. That description is "Republican Cannibalism."

I personally hold Karl Rove to blame, followed closely by Senator John Cornyn. Rove is an establishment Progressive Republican of the first order.

Following O'Donnell's message of values victory in Delaware, Rove started slinging mud in her direction because he realized she was a woman that couldn't be bought & sold on a D.C. street corner.

It was Rove who almost exclusively undermined an untested Republican. When challenged, he became entrenched, making it a media story.

Coming out of a surprise primary victory, everyone would obviously be questioning O’Donnell’s candidacy.

It's the "Man Bites Dog" story. Rove turned an opportunity to help create an up-and-coming political star into much less.

The bottom feeder Rove chose for his personal aggrandizement to put blood in the water. The sharks had a feeding frenzy.

The result was that yet another "Traditional Values Candidate" was beaten by her own political party, & the momentum of several other races was slowed.

It gave Reid & others the chance to further paint traditional values candidates as kooks. The Republican cannibalism resulted in the Senate leadership failure to get behind Republican nominees.

The cannibalism by a self-professed REPUBLICAN strategist, wrapped up is his own glory led to lost momentum by MIller, Fiorina (albeit her real defeat was the unfortunate infection), Buck, Angle & Rossi.

His poor choices contributed to a decay of no less than 15 percent-point in Delaware. Had Delaware been advocated by Rove, rather than diminished, today we would be looking at a three-seat Senate majority, & a Republican Governor in CA.

That’s a non-sequitur. My point, which I had hoped would be obvious, is that nominating a competent Supreme Court justice didn’t require any heroic effort. Yet, the first inclination by the Bush Administration was to nominate someone on the basis not of competency, judicial temperament, or even ideology, but of loyalty.

Rovian philosophy is likely responsible for Republican victories in 2000, 2002, and 2004. However, Rovian philosophy is almost certainly responsible for Republican defeats in 2006 and 2008. Republican victories in 2010 can be attributed to a rejection of Rovian philosophy.

There are many take-home lessons, but one important one is it does’t pay to assume the position of progressive-lite. The progressives don’t appreciate it, and they won’t reward you for it, and the conservatives who put you in office really won’t appreciate it.

I liked Harriet. She was just as qualified as the two loons Obama put on the court. I would have preferred a working lawyer as opposed to another ivory tower egghead, although I am pleased with ALito.

I believe he nominated her because he knew she would never embarrass him like his father's nominee did. Loyalty is a good thing BTW.

So Christine O’Donnell’s loss has nothing to do with her own actions and campaign and her being a tough sell for a blue state like Delaware?

Let’s stop this circular firing squad.

Rove only expressed a belief that she was a weak candidate who couldn’t win. Maybe, just maybe, he was right.

United we stand, divided we fall.

u dont determine qualifications. The Constitution and the voters do

And they decided she wasn't qualified. Three times.

And it's spelled "goodbye." No surprise you're an O'Donnell fan.

Why go on national TV and throw a temper tantrum?

He can believe what he wants privately; you don’t trash your own people, especially after THE PEOPLE OF DELAWARE chose her for the election run.

He didn’t have to lie; all he had to do was take the high road and just shut his pie hole. He chose to act like a moron and trash one of our people publically, and it helped the enemy.

The enemy in front of you is a lot easier to deal with than when you have a supposed ally opening a hole in the perimeter BEHIND you.

One team, One Fight. It’s a real simple concept.

He believed that O’Donnell couldn’t/wouldn’t win. I would have voted for her, but I also agreed with him.

Voting for O’Donnell in the primary may have won a battle, but it lost a war. (in a metaphorical sense)

When you don't win an election, you have a result such as what happened in 2008.

I don't understand how some can lose this point ... An election is all about winning ...

Rove is an establishment Progressive Republican of the first order.

He's a small 'r' republican and part of the reason the GOP lost its reputation for fiscal responsibility leading to the loss of Congress and the White House.

The TEA party is responsible for giving the GOP a second chance and the Republic what might be its last best hope.

Go away, Karl. You've done more than your share of damage.

I don’t care what she said, I care what Rove said.

So she was a loon. The GOP in that state made her THEIR loon. Rove should have kept his mouth shut until after the election. When she lost, the voters in that state would have no one to blame but themselves.

Rove should have listened to Reagan and not ate his own.

LOL

No wonder she's such a loser if that's the attitude of her cheerleaders!

Go away, Christine. You didn’t address your baggage in a credible way. You had your chance and blew it. Its no one’s fault but your own. Repeat: go away.

Then I guess you need to fight for more qualified people. Truthfully, I would not have wanted to vote for her. After all that witch stuff, she came off like a nut. I don’t like witches and I didn’t know anyone in high school who messed with witchcraft. The GOP needs to nominate people who can win. That’s all I’m saying. And how many people do you think didn’t vote for her because of what Rove said?

Blame Rove for the massive spending Dubya did during his terms in office... Rove is the architect of all the bloated spending...That is why the GOP was beheaded in 2006.

Obama is merely Bush on steroids...

You are a 100% correct. It is baffling to me that the same people who complained about Obama’s lack of experience can attach themselves to someone like O’Donnell. Rove had nothing to do with the lose of the seat; it was the inexperienced, unqualified, empty suit with a pretty face that was the problem.

What is scary to me is that so many people can either turn a blind eye to something like this, or can’t realize how hypocritical they are. God help us if people like O’Donnell are the best we have to offer.

People need to take of the blinders every once in a while. Whenever I think I am going overboard on something I just ask myself, what would I think of this person or a persons actions if they had a “D” behind their name instead of a “R”.

Great post.

Fortunately, once the heat and competition and emotion of the election passes, people will eventually, without admitting it to anyone, think, “Why was I defending this person?” and that’ll be the end of it.

>>No wonder she’s such a loser if that’s the attitude of her cheerleaders! <<

Why do you assume I supported her?
First, I’m in MI
Second, taking the Senate, IMO, may not have been the best for us.

Now, let’s go back to Rove eating his own. How many people here say NO Rinos, no more? I do. So what makes anyone assume that a vote for this chick would have been a vote for the Rino? Or that the Rino could have gotten more?

No matter what, ROVE should have kept his mouth shut once the GOP voted this woman to be their candidate. AND should in the future. She wasn’t picked out of the air, the GOP there voted her to be the candidate.
