Republican storm created too much headwind for most Dems
From the moment the "Bill White for Texas" campaign moved from a U.S. Senate race to a governor's race, the Democratic candidate knew he was facing a long, hard, low-gear climb. Bill White, an inveterate bicyclist, needed every gear to mesh perfectly. He needed a clear path, however challenging.
He got neither. A red-state race that all along was going to be daunting proved an impossible slog in a state full of restive Republicans determined to reverse their 2006 and 2008 losses and in an anti-Washington season that grew ever bleaker for candidates nationwide with a D attached to their names.
Many of White's fellow Democrats in Harris County and statewide were swept out of office in the deluge:
Veteran Harris County Commissioner Sylvia Garcia lost to Republican lawyer Jack Morman.
Harris County District Clerk Loren Jackson lost to Republican challenger Chris Daniel.
U.S. Rep. Chet Edwards, D-Waco, a 20-year House veteran, lost badly to Republican Bill Flores, while in San Antonio, U.S. Rep. Ciro Rodriquez lost to Republican banker-lawyer Francisco "Quico" Canseco.
In the state legislature, more than 20 incumbent Democrats lost their seats, including Houston-area freshman lawmaker Kristi Thibaut and two-term incumbent Ellen Cohen.
With incumbent Gov. Rick Perry, one of the most adept campaigners in the country, riding the wave of anti-Washington, anti-Obama fervor, White had no way to stop him, despite running a credible race. Perry ran a smart, disciplined race that avoided any of the mistakes that White desperately needed him to make. In 25 years as an elected official, Perry has never lost a race.
White had never lost a race either, but there was nothing the former Houston mayor could have done that would have made a difference this time...

One of these things is not like the others/One of these things just doesn't belong...
LOL! Great minds tihnk alike sometimes...that ditty popped into my head as soon as I looked at the first posting of this picture!
Bingo, but a syncophant, melie mouth DUM was a Hell NO!
BUMP!!
Texas rocked this time.
. . . while in San Antonio, U.S. Rep. Ciro Rodriquez lost to Republican banker-lawyer Francisco "Quico" Canseco.
I love San Antonio!
While our city is better than 60 percent Latino, we vote our personal and our shared beliefs and our mutual interests . . . for the good of San Antonio. Block voting seldom works here. In city council elections, a predominantly Latino district is, depending upon the candidate's qualifications and campaign effort, just as likely to vote for an Anglo as they are to vote for a census-defined Hispanic. That's why his Latino laden district repeatedly voted for Bob Thompson to represent their community, and years afterwards elected Susan Radle.
Hope Charlie Gonzalez got the message. While he won with 60 percent of the vote, his Republican no-name opponent won 37 percent of the vote. Next time, Charlie, if you don't shape up, you're out. What would your Daddy say?
Remembering the San Antonio demographics I mentioned, the most stunning upset was local. No opposed Democratic judge won his or her reelection bid. Wow!
And once again, for a State-wide office, no Democrat won.
I love Texas.
I see the meds have finally kicked in for the Comical writers. Yet they STILL had to take pot shots at the end.
All the while Zero is whining on TV.
I love Texas too. We don’t like big government telling us what to do and how to live. That is why the RATS were given the boot. Many Latinos in Texax love their state and don’t want to see it turn into a liberal cesspool like CA.
.
WAY TO GO TEXAS!!!! THE CORRUPT ORTIZ DYNASTY IS OVER!
BOTH ORTIZES LOST!!!

I wish I could agree with you, but the demographics of Dallas County make it very difficult for Republicans to win now. Dallas County will be Democratic for some time.
Again you see the residual effects of the Katricians from NO. Ever so glad I don’t live in Dallas County. Taxpayers voting for a Democrat are like chickens voting for Col. Sanders.
Which is why inevitably the City of Dallas is going to wind up looking like Detroit.
I was happy to see Gov. GoodHair soundly beat Mayor BigEars.
We even came close to giving LLiberal LLoyd Dogsh!t a scare for awhile. The next goal should be to redistrict him out of existence.
I watched all these out-of-state plates fleeing to Texas this past year and wondered of these were conservatives fleeing their liberal hellholes or commielibs trying to expand their base. The results give me comfort that maybe most of them were conservatives looking for a fresh start in a conservative state (either that or the newbies hadn’t figured out yet how to register to vote).
Let’s re-draw Texas in our own image.
All incumbents won, and Dems kept their open seat, so the Senate remains 19-12. I don't think any of the races were too competitive. Now, the House is another story!
We need to get Strauss out of the Speaker position. He is a RHINO and already has come out with his Republican backers with 46 Democrats. With the Republican strength in Texas, we should not put up with a liberal in power. That is the road to Republican weakness and future defeat. Does anyone know how to put our two cents in on this?
Hoping that Pratt on Texas will have an answer. Listen on the internet at www.prattontexas.com if you don’t already. Great Texas news. He is a rabid conservative but he is fun to listen to and has the BEST Texas music clips between segments. AM790 out of Lubbock or AM 1470 out of Abilene. 5-7pm M-F
Now we can redistrict Lloyd Dogs!#tt our of existance like we did with Martin Frost!
Thanks.......... I thought that maybe the case but couldn’t find it anywhere and I didn’t want to go thought the races one by one.
You are not Ted Cruz are you?
It really isn’t as bad as you think. Before conservatives took over the state, the only Republican anyone knew in Dallas county was Jim Collins in district 3. What is happening now is more of a hiccup in the longer scheme of things.
No relation, but Ted Cruz is someone I could certainly support if he runs for office.
Then why the crap didn’t Henry Cuellar Lose?
