Go ahead, say it. It's no longer mere fantasy or sheer folly to do so. A rare mix of veteran rejects and budding stars completed an unlikely ascent to the Major League summit Monday night, allowing all to repeat a five-word phrase never before heard:
World Series champion San Francisco Giants. The Giants made franchise history with a 3-1 triumph over the Rangers in Game 5 of the World Series, ignoring their underdog status to capture the 106th Fall Classic, four games to one.
An unlikely hero combined with a likely one to elevate San Francisco to new heights.

Congratulations to your Giants, and thanks for your reply.
My five outs away was the 2003 NLCS. What is it with Dusty Baker and five outs away?
Man, I must say, some of you Texans are a whiny sore loser bunch...
Damn...
Nah, we all choose to live here freely.
By the way, the NFL wholeheartedly agreed to name the Houston franchise as the "Texans". Although the powers that be in the NFL are getting a bit squishy, they'd laugh at anyone who'd suggest naming a team the "Californians".
Well now I shall close with the words of the late, Bart Giamatti:
“It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the Spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the Summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone.”
If I didn’t have relatives in Houston, I’d NEVER go! I say this as someone who was born there.
In a postgame interview, Lee took complete responsibilty for the pitch. He said he didn't throw around batters all year, and didn't think he had to on that 0-2 pitch to Edgar. Lee said that Edgar just made a great play out of it.
But the good thing about this may be that the Yanks may no longer want Lee after his two WS losses, which will make it easier for the Rangers to keep him.
One time my wife and I went to a game at the Stick back then, and she went to use the restroom.
She heard a little girl in one of the stalls saying “Oooh-reeb-ay!”
Lincecum had a hot g/f when he was a minimum wage rook and he beat Cliff Lee 2x, something the East Coast media said couldn’t be done.
Did they forget Lincecum is the reigning two-time NL Cy Young?
Lighten up with the bashing.
Not everyone from California is a liberal.
California used to be a conservative state and some of us are trying to make it one again.
Our first World Series for the Rangers. A land mark. Wish the Rangers had won, but I’m proud of them for bringing the Series to the state for the first time and winning the AL pennant.
I'm not even a big baseball fan, but rooting against blue-state teams (especially those from San Francisco) seems a natural inclination.
I don’t think Nancy Pelosi gives a damn about Baseball.
Right now, it’s probably the last thing on her mind.
You sound like some of the libs on DU that are happy SF won just because GWB used to own the Rangers.
If we were going to take that approach, we’d have to root against every team, because they all come from big RAT cities. Except, possibly, San Diego and Phoenix, although they’ve gone fairly liberal.
It’s just stupid. This is a sports thread. Let’s keep to the topic.
Well at least now we lead the ‘Stros 1 WS game win to 0.
Be happy SF won - it’ll probably suppress voter turnout.
I thought the count was 2-0 on Renteria when he hit it out, I thought for sure it was going to be an ‘intentional’ unintentional walk, to get to the next batter.
Lincecum is a bad role model. I would never tell any kid to emulate him.
As a Padres fan, I’m happy for Bochy. And Flannery. That’s it.
Yes, thanks for the correction. It was a 2-0 pitch.
And while it's a horrible year to be a Cowboy fan like I am, Tarrant county is one of the most consistently Republican regions in the country.
I will gladly embrace a SF win if it means Governor Moonbeam and the Bimbo from Brooklyn’s supporters are too hungover to vote or end up sleeping in due to late night celebrating.
