Gateway Pundit (First Things) ^

What a moment! George Bush 41 and George Bush 43 entered the stadium together tonight to throw out the first ball at the World Series. THE CROWD ROARED. Then GW threw a strike to home plate catcher Nolan Ryan to start off game 4. Barbara Bush was taking photos in the stands.
What a wonderful moment.

If you’ve ever been to a “speed pitch” booth, IMHO you’ll find that you think a 55 mph fastball is respectable.

"There is no shame in a 70-80 mph ball, thrown accurately."
That's right, Jamie Moyer has made a great career out of those...

These are lobs at about 40mph. No need to try to power it. Just throw the dang thing, and make it look decent.

Oh, that's a better video (albeit a bit shaky at times!) than the network video. Thanks for posting the link.
I love that you can hear the crowd chanting USA! USA!! after he threw the pitch.
Oh, how I miss having a President who loves America!

Love this video. Crowds cheering the Presidents Bush, chanting USA, USA. Love how President Bush makes no big deal out if it - just pitches the ball in.

Exactly right. I doubt that very many people here could throw a baseball 75 mph. Try it sometime. The experience might make you appreciate those 85 mph MLB “change-ups.”

Is President Bush throwing a knuckle ball? From the positioning of his fingers, no way is it a knuckle ball. Looks more to me like a curve ball.

Thanks, I noticed the spacing of his fingers, but don’t know much about pitching.

Never been to a speed booth, so I ‘ll blindly accept your statement. Honestly, I’d probly be amongst the slowest pitches you’ve seen. I’m just a silly engineer.
My view is that if I were ever called to toss a ball - I sure as heck wouldn’t humiliate myself the way Jughead did. I’d go to baseball field in the evening, when no one was there, and thow the ball a couple times with a friend, to just get the feel of it. I might not be a speed demon; but it wouldn’t look like a slow-pitch toss.

Nolan Ryan threw out the first pitch for Game 3... believe it was clocked in the 67-68 mph range... and he threw it from the mound.
Very respectable velocity.
If he was in playing shape/form these days, I'm sure could still hit the mid- to high-80s.
