It is with sad news that I report on the passing of longtime FReeper Carolinamom.
Her daughter notified Howlin this morning and told Howlin that her sister found their sweet mother Carolinamom (Miriam) this morning on the bathroom floor.
Her daughter told Howlin the neighbors said she had on the same clothes that she had on when she was working in her yard yesterday.
The medical examiner said Carolinamom may have died from a heart attack or stroke and said she didn't appear to have suffered the affects, and died peacefully.
She touched the lives of many here and elsewhere. She was a sweet and caring soul.
Please keep her closest friends and her immediate family in your thoughts and prayers today and in the days and years to come. Her daughters will certainly need the comforting prayers and loving embrace of our Lord and Savior. They're devastated this morning.
Thank you for your kind words. I was just delighted to be able to share them here.
Prayers and condolences for the family.
God bless Carolinamom,I enjoyed many a post with her.
I’m sure she is looking down from above and will be smiling by days end. She was a great FReeper and will be missed.
The viewing for Miriam Whitley Parrott (Carolinamom), will be this Thursday night (11/4) from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cavin Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 494 East Plaza Drive, Mooresville, NC.
The funeral service will be Friday (11/5) at 2 p.m. at the same place.
Cards and letters can be sent to:
286 Dodge Drive
Mooresville, NC 28115
Also: Her daughter Karen was told that her mother spent a lot of time communicating with others online and that Miriam enjoyed her friendships here and elsewhere. Her daughter Karen was touched by this and touched by the number of people who have left well-wishes and paid respects to a wonderful lady, in this thread.
Maybe the moderators could add to the title the post number of this update? Thanks!
Got it. Thanks so much BigSkyFreeper
I did not know her nor was I familiar with her postings but I am touched by the compassion of this FR on line community. It is mindboggling how wrongly the left regards the right as mean spirited. My thoughts and prayers to this grieving family...may good memories comfort and sustain along with our Lord’s promise for eternal life.
I just heard about this today.
Prayers for her, her family and their friends. Bye mom.
Thanks to you and Amber for these wonderful photos. They both look so happy. It is comforting to think that they are now together again.
Sorry to hear this. Sympathy and prayers for her family. Her and Bahbah together in heaven.
Wife, Tarheel, and I have just returned from the viewing for Carolinammom. We got to meet all of her children and most of the grand kids, including Amber. Miriam [Carolinamom] had a big family and with their families in tow it was hard to share more than a few words of sympathy. We did have the opportunity to spend a bit of time with daughter Elaine [and her son, Brian and fiancee, and daughter Kendal]. Elaine is warm and peppy, just like her mom.
However, it was tough to carry on a normal conversation when our friend Miriam was layimg in her casket nearby. It was surrounded by many vases of beautiful flowers and, poignantly, a photo of a younger Miriam and another later one of her with husband “Jack”.
Many of the family were familiar with you, BigSky, and also with Howlin [who had hoped to come but had an illness in her own family that needed her attention]. So, I hope that those who post here will feel better knowing that their comments are being shared with Carolinamom’s family.
We met her so late in life and she has left us too soon. Yet, we are fortunate for having shared at least a little bit of our lives with her.
Rest in peace, Miriam.

Thanks for the report Foxy. I know that Howlin was in contact with Miriam's daughter Karen, and I was in contact with Karen's daughter Amber, and so they were the direct connection to the rest of the family. I'm not surprised they were familiar with me, Amber relayed my words of support to the rest of the family.
Hopefully with today's funeral service, it brought some amount of closure and they can move on to the next phase. I know Tarheel said they had already started to work on clearing out Miriam's house. That's always the toughest part because so many memories come flooding back.
Thanks to both you and Tarheel for representing Miriam's online family. :)
May those who mourn be comforted. Prayers up!
Hello all,
I am Carolinamom’s granddaughter Jackie. I would just like to thank you all for your support and compassion. She was the foundation of our family and she will be dearly missed. I am happy that she has been reunited with my grandfather. They were very much in love and my grandmother honored her vows until the very last. Thank you and God bless you all.
Jackie
She was a wonderful person...thanks for writing to us.
God bless you and the rest of your family! You continue to be in my prayers.
I think your grandmother is pleased that she still has family members posting on Free Republic.
You and the whole Carolinamom clan are in our prayers.
Condolences and Thanksgiving blessings to the family and friends of Carolinamom. Thanks for the post/pics, BigSkyFreeper.
R.I.P. Miriam
