SUBTITLE: Dallas Schmidt got quite a kick out of earning his first Top Ten finish in National Reining Horse Association competition at the All-American Quarter Horse Congress earlier this month in Columbus, Ohio. While that was a career-long goal, it doesnt quite compare with the kick he delivered to a would-be thief during a failed robbery attempt near the hotel where he and his family were staying.

. . . . .... .I kicked him, he said. I kicked him pretty hard.
So hard that the rock grinder spur on his cowboy boot and the spur shank measuring about four inches in length ripped through the suspects . . . . .. .
Please go to the source for the delightfully gory details and a Columbus, Ohio Police Department description of the "alleged assailants".
You’d think the guy who got kicked in the face would be pretty easy to find...
The Ohio State Fairgrounds is in a bad neighborhood on the near-east part of the city (along Interstate 71). Its one thing when there are big crowds, another when the crowds go away. Just on the other side of 71 is the infamous Cleveland Avenue / Linden area which is lower income, high crime. They cross under 71 looking for targets.
Based on the description, it sounds like a lot of damage done. That thug must be hating life right now.
Wearing cowboy boots is a potential detriment to the wearer in a fight, but I suppose that it worked out this time.
. . .. Every year, we have had issues with the Quarter Horse Congress, Weiner said. Most often, what we deal with is thefts from vehicles. Until last year, when a would-be robber who broke into a guests room in another nearby hotel was shot and killed by a woman who was staying there, reportedly with her daughter and granddaughter. . . . .
Good for him. So sad this sort of stuff is so much out there.
I think about my safety and the safety of others every day, and I have interveined a couple of times recently and avorted potential incidents.
Can you say ‘Texarkana’?
He was getting the baby's bottle from his truck.
you’d think they’d have rounded up some cowboy po-lice to guard those wild lots by now.
Ho-kay, so how did the kopz know exactly where the spur was alleged to have gone... like the cowboy did a real close inspection of a berserk attacker run amok and probably whizzed outa his mind on drugs... oh nevermind.
Yeah, but you know what really bothers me in all this ? I hope those thugs didn’t damage his boots and spurs.
a lot of damage — tore apart his tongue and must be bleeding into the mouth. He needs to get to hospital (and get arrested- hah, hah), or will bleed to death or have horrible injuries for life
You’d think them cowboys would move on to greener pastures. Tell Columbus and the Fair Board to “pound sand”.
The thug’s treatment will give a new meaning to being tongue tied.
We have horses and know what they can do. Too bad he wasn’t on his horse. They can run you over and can get a good frontal/side boot kick too.
My wife didn’t go to the Congress this year, plans to next year. Now, I’m concerned about her travels.
We also have horses. I only have TSC spurs. I think I need to get new spurs...and spur straps....then new boots...and then new jeans....ugh.
