HARTFORD Wrestling fans might want to think twice about what they wear to the polls Election Day.
A voter wearing, say, a Cenation T-shirt in tribute to WWE superstar John Cena might be asked to remove it, depending on the discretion of poll workers.
That's because the secretary of the state's office is telling local election officials that the prohibition against political paraphernalia within 75 feet of a polling place could be extended to gear promoting World Wrestling Entertainment.
WWE is a worldwide entertainment company built by Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon and currently run by her husband, Vince McMahon.
"Even though it doesn't say her name directly ... the brand is so ubiquitously associated with the McMahons,'' said Av Harris, a spokesman for Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz.
Harris acknowledged that any discussion about voters' apparel is a "very, very delicate issue."
"We have a candidate who is very very well-known, who is a celebrity to millions of fans throughout the country,'' he said. "This has been a very contentious, hard-fought campaign, but the sanctity of the polling place is sacrosanct.''

They probably stole it from Laumer! I think the Retief series started in the very early Sixties.
Wonder if you can get away with voting if you’re wearing a Gadsden Flag t-shirt?
RE the photo: Two assclown thug wannabes. They’d piss in their little panties if they met up with the real deal.
Don’t they look cute in their little berets?
my poll is in an elementary school....
so if these 2 “ assclown thug wannabes” were posted outside (thankfully, these types do NOT inhabit my neighborhood.....yet.)...and I was to go home and get one of my CCW toys as a FREE PASS to get buy these pieces of walking excrement....
....I would be the one arrested for carrying a weapon in a school zone...
un-friggin-believable
You couldn't be more right.
An example was a wedding I attended several years ago. I was only one of a handful of people who wore anything approaching special dress clothes, including the groom. At a small funeral, I was the only attendee wearing a suit.
If you look deeper, similar attitudes accompany willfully tacky dress. A lack of decorum in behavior and consideration for others - manner, frankly - seems to be tracking the trends in dress.
I've been to funerals where old gentlemen farmers wore their best bib overalls to it. No one judged them for it. In my death I would not wish to burden loved ones with the expense of purchasing formal wear in which that money could be much better spent on meeting their real needs.
As for myself? I can't wear a suit & tie. I can't wear a Tee shirt due to a neurological impairment. Pants won't stay up on me so I wear coveralls any place I go. I can't wear regular shoes either so I wear working boots. They support my feet and ankles which are now quite distorted.
My current and will be my last marriage my wife wore a long night gown. I was in blue jeans & a western shirt. Our own preacher who officiated our wedding said in church the next Sunday it was the prettiest and meaningful weddings he had done in his ministry. The other invited guest there including a priest and several nuns didn't take offense either.
When I pass from this world it will be my request to be buried in coveralls or overalls and my loved ones who show up for services do so wearing their everyday {in good taste} clothing. The last part in honor of my beloved wife whom can not wear a dress and must wear sweatpants everywhere she goes.
Clothing doesn't make the person as a rule. Unless the person wears clothing perhaps with a trashy {obscene} message on them or one obviously showing too much of the body I don't care.
"Those were the days---me in uniform in Vietnam."
I am seeing more and more Blumenthal signs around. The people of CT are lost.
Lots of things that aren’t weapons can be used as weapons, brother. And used very effectively too...
here is my alternate Tagline... age and all its nasty side effects make me use weapons that I can wield handily
TAG: Don't pick a fight with an old guy. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.
Or...”Old age and treachery overcomes youth and enthusiasm everytime...”
I realize that God doesn't care what people wear, but I think he cares what people choose to wear. There's a huge difference.
