Don't think of this as a memo, think of it as plaintiff's (Williams’) exhibit A. I am not a lawyer, but it seems to me that by knowingly tolerating a prohibited activity for an extended period of time, NPR gave its consent to such activity.

Williams will own them before this is all over.

From the memo: “Juan continued to violate this principal.”

Juan violated a school principal! I’d fire him, too!

Juan, you are now Burka Man: silenced, neutered and walled off from public view.

Juan has continued to violate this principal.

Principal?? Was Juan frisky with the chief of NPR or it's merely about an interest only loans?

Soros has indeed funded NPR to the tune of $1.8 million with the intention of their hiring political reporters. He's also called for a boycott of Fox News, Glenn Beck in particular. Yet the best line in this correspondence, IMO, is "We’re profoundly sorry that this happened during fundraising week. Juan’s comments were made Monday night and we did not feel it would be responsible to delay this action".

I understand it was yesterday that CAIR filed a complaint with NPR regarding Juan Williams' comments to Bill O'Reilly.

I'm sure they felt it responsible to perform this action immediately after that complaint was filed. 1) No one in their right mind on the left wants to upset CAIR, and 2) NPR in no way wants to lose CAIR's funding...

I remember during the Bork hearings when either Nina or Cokie (and I wish I had a recording of this) reported on the video tapes that judge Bork rented. My, my, my. Only fact-based reporting allowed there, girls.

NPR has a responsibility to not kowtow to the enemy.

NPR journalists should not express views they would not air in their role as an NPR journalist.

The mendacity here is staggering. NPR is part of the system that launders liberal opinions through the news reporting process (such as global warming) as to proclaim them as being factual and not in contention. Any NPR reporter who says that global warming is settled science is expressing an opinion - not fact. And that is just one example of many - so this claim that Juan should not be expressing opinions is complete bunk, their reporters do it every day, and in a vastly more dishonest way than Juan ever did on Fox.

The problem is that Juan not only expressed the occasional opinion that challenged liberal orthodoxy (his dead-on views about the damage that inner-city 'culture' causes the black community really must have made 'em squirm), but he also went on the dreaded Fox News to say these things. They were just dying for an excuse to can him - but in the process have revealed the ugly streak of bias that lurks beneath their news process.

Total BS, they claim Juan Williams isn’t supposed to state his opinion on ANY controversial subject.

On a DIFFERENT NETWORK?

They do understand that Juan Williams is a political commentator, right?

Nina Totenberg's generally mild manners can quickly turn ugly when dealing with conservatives. On Inside Washington (WUSA) she reacted to the news that Senator Jesse Helms advocated a reduction of the money that the NIH spends on AIDS research:

" I think he ought to be worried about what's going on in the Good Lord's mind, because if there is retributive justice, he'll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it." -NINA TOTENBERG

NPR runs opinions all the time, they had an article on their website smearing the “tea bag movement” just today I think.

“However that letter is pure bullsh$t. Go to the tapes - Mara Liason ? Nina Tottenburg ? Cokie Roberts ? They never said anything a news reporter shouldn;t say? Give me a break.”

Excellent point. Let’s see how consistent they are in their application of their sanctimonious “standards”. I hope someone will do exactly that. And if they dig a bit deeper, I’m sure they’ll find the hands of CAIR and islamists all over this firing.

Judge Bork, a national treasure that we cavalierly tossed overboard.

That episode still rankles as how lies, slander and calumny by Democrats proved so effective.

If this had been Fox News firing Juan, regardless of the reason, there would be weeping and gnashing of teeth from every part of the left over the blatant racism. But, since NPR is one of their own, they are once again conflicted - just another example of the ever-more-apparent double standard of “We want free speech as long as you say what we agree with.”

Obama had him fired.

Duh, plantation blacks know better than to look at the overseer's squeeze, even IF he has bad taste.
