WASHINGTON (AFP) US President Barack Obama admitted having made tactical errors but stood by his accomplishments Sunday in an interview weeks ahead of crucial midterm elections.
Obama confessed to the The New York Times that during his first 20 months in office he had probably not focused enough on public relations, which, like it or not, is an all-important part of the job.
"Given how much stuff was coming at us, we probably spent much more time trying to get the policy right than trying to get the politics right," he was quoted as saying in a lengthy magazine piece.
With Republicans poised to make big gains in congressional and gubernatorial races in the November 2 elections, Obama and top aides also quoted in the article discussed ways to reboot his stalled presidency.
In a reinvented administration, which aides have dubbed "Obama 2.0," he will make sure he plays more by Washington's rules so that his accomplishments don't get drowned out by the opposition Republicans.
"I think anybody who's occupied this office has to remember that success is determined by an intersection in policy and politics and that you can't be neglecting of marketing and PR and public opinion," Obama said.
He told the newspaper he had learnt "tactical lessons" after allowing himself to look like "the same old tax-and-spend liberal Democrat," despite having presented himself as a fresh-scrubbed agent of political change.
Nonetheless, Obama, who took the helm in January 2009 with the United States in the midst of two wars and facing a financial crisis unseen since the Great Depression, said his administration's record had been commendable.

Or Bill Ayers.
The real answer is that he’s insane. I think he doesn’t care about the midterm elections because he doesn’t care one way or the other about the people who put him in power (blacks and the Dem party) because he thinks he’s moving on to bigger and better things.
He wants to be head of the UN or of some multinational agency, or perhaps Chief Mufti, because he thinks the US is beneath him. I honestly don’t think he’s going to finish out his term because he’s going to bail. He’s done all he can do to destroy us and the reaction is starting. So now it’s time to move on.
He uses people and abandons them. He’s a crazy megalomaniac.
Accomplishments!! What accomplishments??

This man’s arrogance knows no bounds.
Yeah, if only he had held a few press conferences.
If only he had made some prime time speeches.
If only he had spent some time cultivating the media so that he might have gotten some support from the press.
Too bad he has shunned the spotlight.
The damage is done. America is ready to topple and now he wants to start “playing by the rules”. KMA Barry! Take your Obama 2.0 and stick it where the sun don’t shine.
You know what? I’m glad he has “no regrets.” I’m ecstatic. No regrets means no remorse, no remorse means no self-examination, no circumspection, no search for the truth. In short, no improvement and no hope of improvement ever, no mid-course correction, no triagulation, no compromise. This is a recipe for utter destruction of not only himself but his disgusting political party, the party of slavery, the party of segregation, the party of the Klan, the party of Jim Crow. The party of cheap votes at whatever price. The party of the lowest common denominator. In Obama, they have their perfect leader, icon, and champion.
Obamao should have blamed Bush and the republicans more often.

Can't help feeling that somewhere there is a REAL witch cackling with delight:
we probably spent much more time trying to get the policy right than trying to get the politics right,’
BS, it’s the exact opposite. Politics was at the core of the policy. They did nothing but force the ‘Progressive’ agenda down our throats.
Not enough PR? This guy is on TV practically every day.
