Yet another assumption: all the datestamps should be exactly alike.

It's not just the day portion of her datestamp that is smaller. The whole stamp is smaller, which could be a result of how the document itself was photographed, scanned, imported, stored, etc. If it's an image of a datestamp, then there are logical explanations for differences in size.

In the very bottom example that you provide, try enlarging the whole datestamp so that the year portions are exactly the same size. I bet the day portion then looks more as you would expect.
