Feds call popular gun a 'threat,' proposed shipments canceled
The Obama-run Washington bureaucracy has classified a common and reliable rifle, the M1 Garand, as a "threat to public safety in the U.S.," and the State Department has canceled plans by the Republic of Korea to return tens of thousands of surplus rifles to the U.S. for sale in the consumer market.
The stunning classification of an ordinary gun that was used in the U.S. military for two decades and issued to thousands of soldiers and Marines during World War II and Korea as a threat came in a document by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
It is being publicized by Examiner gun rights writer David Codrea, who said the federal agency appeared alarmed that there would be "no more controls [over imported Garands] than any other firearm."
Everything you'll ever need to know about gun is here, in the "FIREARMS MULTIMEDIA GUIDE"
"If I read this right, what they're saying is, every gun poses a threat to public safety in the U.S.," he wrote. "This is the same rationale used in model-specific 'assault weapons' bans the type of gun is somehow deemed relevant, even though untold numbers of such firearms are already peaceably owned in this country, and even though no supporting evidence for this conclusion exists beyond agenda-promoting speculation."

They’ve got to prevent the emergence of the “Garand gangs.”
Tell the Koreans to hold the phone; we’re getting this clear up.
Apparently the document in question was written by Theresa Figuretta (sorry for the mispelling). She is Chief Counsels Office.
What I find particularly disturbing about the document is that it’s very racially biased and reeks of Jim Crow mind set.
There is a lot more detailed information here...

The author of that tripe needs to be forced out of her job. She’s definitely using her position to forward her racist and anti-gun agenda.
EVERY gun does indeed pose a “public safety” problem...
if you define “public safety” as “the ability to impose our will on the populace without them having any means by which to resist”.
I certainly do not want to be a “ threat to public safety” by buying a M1. I’ll just save a little more money and buy an AR-10.
You could get these through the civilian marksmanship program for years now.

I wonder how long it’ll take for them to get shut down.
first Obama admits to an interviewer that there IS no such thing as a shovel-ready project, and now they wade back into gun control with this. Could they possibly stumble or fumble any more leading into an election?
The M1 does have a reputation of being key in the taking down of tyrannical governments.
Just more reason why no 2nd Amendment supporter should ever vote for Joe Manchin or any Democrat
We all know what the Obamites are truly afraid of: the people. They ought to be.
Just more reason why no 2nd Amendment supporter should ever vote for Joe Manchin or any Democrat
...or give credence to an NRA rating associated with any democrat. The fact you profess support of the second amendment as a democrat, dumping the rest of the Constitution in the process, should give the clueless NRA all the information they need to make an informed decision. Something they seem unable to do, as they rate, and in some cases endorse democrat candidates and incumbents.
Geez! That sounds like a veiled threat.
Sure sounds nice!
Fox News had Manchin on a couple of times recently; and, as part of the segment, they showed 1 of his commercials in which he was holding a gun (don’t recall if it was a rifle or shotgun) and speaking. I was wondering if that wasn’t just for ‘show’. IIRC the ad also had the NRA logo/emblem on it.
Gee, I wonder if the NRA will endorse another handful of Dim candidates. Sheesh!
Nothing veiled about it. Our liberties are not theirs for the taking, nor have they ever been. Obama and his Ruling Class crowd hold a view of government that is fundamentally incompatible with that upon which the nation was founded, and one that is still shared by a majority of its citizens. Both sides cannot triumph.
Folks, West Virginia has an actual conservative running for Senate. Please support John Raese.
“Shes definitely using her position to forward her racist and anti-gun agenda.”
Hoplophobes should not be in policy positions, or at least without a non-hoplophobe riding shotgun.
Anyone with a serious phobia should not be in a decision-making position when decisions involving that phobia are involved. The ADA should be invoked to provide reasonable accommodations.
Like an arachnophobe being in charge of a black-widow farm (to get silk for reticles).
Why does this have to be a federal issue at all?
Why can’t one of the states (New Hampshire comes to mind) offer to buy up the rifles from Korea, if they could afford it? This is hardly an “arms control” issue at the national level.
I’m sure New Hampshire Fish & Game, or whomever, would be immediately swamped with offers to purchase, and they could probably turn a profit, to boot!
