Ministers from across Central Florida are rallying against Representative Alan Grayson. They want him to tone down attacks against his opponent Daniel Webster.
A group of Christian leaders got together Sunday to send Grayson a letter asking him to tone down his attacks. They said his recent TV ad went over the line and pegged all Christians as radicals.
Grayson and Webster spoke with News 13 about their thoughts over the controversial ad.
"The negative ads are simply telling the truth. And with the idea that we've taken this idea out of context, that's an old ploy by a 28-year career politician. That's the first reaction you hear from somebody like Dan Webster. He says, "well, I did actually say that but I was quoted out of context,'" Grayson said.
"The nastiest, one of the nastiest ads of the season and it is false and that's been said over and over again. So if the first ad is false, the second ad is false you got to expect the rest of them are going to have a lot of falsehood in them too," Webster said.
True or false, religious leaders said an ugly political race is hurting the people in their pews.
"We as conservatives as Christians, people who have a fond appreciation for higher truth found in the scriptures need to say something and I think you've seen that here today," said James Book with the First Christian Church of Winter Park.
News 13 did ask the Grayson campaign for a comment about the letter Sunday, they wrote back, saying, they stand by the ad.

Grayson is my congresscritter. I believe he is gone in a month. Webster is very well known and liked in the community by people from all walks of life. Dan has gone to the same, extremely diverse church for many years, and is admired by many for his commitment to his family and faith.
For the record, if Dan Webster can be demonized in such a hideous way by the likes of a reprobate like Grayson, there is absolutely no hope for the rest of us. He is as good a guy, and public-servant, as you will find.
