How about a 5,280 foot mile?
OK, I’m going to ‘splain this once. See, to get 62 MPG, you can either spends billions on research into efficiencies and weight savings and all sorts of new technology, or you can make a car that gets 31 MPG get twice that by simply halving (sort of, I chose to use the same numbers but rearrange them) the distance a mile is.
(Kinda why I threw in the 57 states part)
Too long of a mile makes it difficult to improve mpg.
