Another televangelist flames out
Daily Caller ^ | 9/29/10 | Ron Hart

After four lawsuits alleging he coerced young males into sexual relationships were filed, Georgia pastor Eddie Long took to the pulpit Sunday to carefully nuance his side of the story.

Long, the charismatic who leads his mega-church of 26,000 members, told reporters after Sunday’s service that he would challenge the allegations. Joined by members of his legal team, he carefully read from prepared remarks — always a sign of innocence.

By now we know how the redemptive process works for a televangelist accused of sexual relations with young males. First there is the allegation. Then there is the carefully worded, non-denial denial in which he says he will “fight the charges.” Then the preacher puts his jet and all the money he has yet to get into the bankruptcy-proof corporate shell he controls. Then his lawyers handle the settlements while the preacher gives lots of ensuing sermons on forgiveness.

No, I don’t believe you are anti-religion. The writer of the article seems to be, but this “Bishop” strikes me as being as phony as his ‘bishopric’. I went to the church’s website - lot of stuff about their bishop, but nothing about their beliefs or scripture.

I just don’t see it as a religious or Catholic/Reformed issue. If he is guilty, then he should be disgraced. If he isn’t, well, I still think he’s a phony and a charlatan. But I don’t want to convict anyone based on media accounts...

I haven’t looked at any details on Coons, because (first) I’m not a Delaware voter, and (second) if I were, I’d vote for my dog before a Democrat.

If the pastor in this case is guilty, there will be a lot of documentation. The accusations mention expensive gifts, cars, trips, etc., and all that leaves a paper trail if someone is looking.

The hypocrisy of the msm, of course, goes without saying. They don’t think there’s anything wrong with same-sex intimacy, irrespective of age. Why even mention it in the “news”?

They think this guy is a Baptist preacher ~ but he's not ~ really ~ just another word in the church's title.

I think how this got to be a story is the MSM editor who pulled it to peddle didn't realize this guy was African-American. It went viral before that factoid was realized.

>>Yep thats it...except I would add..REPENT to it<<

When asked “what must I do to be saved” the answer was only “believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved”.

I understand where you are coming from but I believe the repenting comes from the believing part. If you believe you will want to repent and will never be able to say “but I repented” with the attitude that you deserve Salvation. It’s all Gods Spirit inside you, not something you did.

Actually, weekly I see far more pro-Catholic articles posted than the contrary.

What does that have to do with ANYTHING?

Here is what I wrote:

It's called deflection. The "religion" of many on the FR Religion Forum IS NOT Christianity, it's anti-Catholicism.

And I stand behind that statement 100%.

It really doesn't matter what the content of any article is, when the anti-Catholics pick a new thread to swarm, they swarm and go off on whatever tangent they choose.

As I said, they aren't Christians, they are anti-Catholics.

If a person claimed to be a Christian, but typically only made anti-Semitic statements, that person would be declared an anti-Semite and almost certainly banned from Free Republic.

If a person claimed to be a Christian, but typically only made racist statements, that person would be declared a racist and almost certainly banned from Free Republic.

So, you tell me, what would you label a person who claimed to be a Christian, but typically only made anti-Catholic statements?

More evidence that the “dynamic, Spirit-directed, multi-gifted, prophetic, and excited” men of “god” are just a bunch of Elmer Gantrys on steroids.

More like cocaine.

This junk is no more the Gospel than Catholicism.

Catholicism came from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This is just another result of the Reformation. Remember Luther's any milkmaid? Long created his own church. Any different than Calvin or Zwingli?

I know we hate cops on this site, but now we hate catholics too?

Most of the failed hall monitors and student council members from high school are coincidentally anti Catholic.

If he was a Reformed pastor, he would actually be reading and preaching The Word of God, but he is just a huckster, a flim flam man who uses some out of context bible quotes to scam people.

Totally unlike Robert Schuller of the Crystal Cathedral fame, right?

You're just saying that because it's true.
