President Barack Obama could face the biggest internal challenge of his presidency this week if White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel announces Friday, as expected, that he's leaving the White House to run for Chicago mayor.

"Rahm is nearing a decision on whether to leave the White House and explore a run for mayor of Chicago," a source described as "close to Emanuel" told Fox News Monday. "An announcement could come as early as Friday. Because of family considerations, no final decision has been made."

Emanuel's departure comes at a critical juncture for the Obama presidency, with a potential GOP tsunami bearing down on the Democratic Party in November, an exodus of top staffers, and rising complaints from the president's left wing about the ongoing war in Afghanistan and his failure to transfor

You mean as opposed to while he’s been here? How could they tell?

Heard Tom Daschle might be looking for a job. Also the name Dukakis has been surfacing.

If you told an alien this story, they would laugh at you and then zap you with some ray gun.

Does anyone care to speculate at to why he’s bailing at this precise time - i.e. it is more than just wanting to position himself to run for Chicago mayor?

"Rahm has been one of the few White House officials that has tried to keep President Obama from going wimpy and extreme left. Without Rahm, President Obama loses one of the few White House officials that can read the mood of the electorate, stop the never-ending analysis and make a decision."

Key Line. Rahm may be pure evil, but he was at least competent evil. Now all that Obama has left are sycophants and professorial Marxists. There will be nobody in the administration that can even pretend to have any connection to the American People.

Rahm was the one on the team who could have done a pivot to the middle like Clinton did. In fact the rumors repeated in this article say he repeatedly advised that already on Afghanistan, the GM Bailout, and Obamacare. Getting rid of Rahm, especially if he is replaced by someone from the ivory tower elite, will be as big a victory as taking the Senate. It will mean that Obama will still be as unpopular as he is today in November of 2012.

Saw a story yesterday about Dukakis making a stop by the White House to give advice on the upcoming election.

Love it.

I notice the continuous campaigning president is back on the road again in that role. This guy is the equal of a circus midway barker. Rather than going on the road occasionally to make speeches underpinning major policy matters, this jerk continues in his continuous campaign modes. See, the difference. Reagan for instance would go out and give a speech to underpin a policy. This jerk goes out to demean the GOP, F0X news, Right To Work, and Less Government constituancies.

So, he is keeping things together at 1600? I guess, just like Haig did with Nixon, it is his CofStaff as Nixon was preoccupied with Watergage, (o)bama is preoccupied with demeaning anyone who votes anti him. My guess is he will want someone very strong willed in that position, a pragmatist too. I don’t see Dukakis or Das-hole filling it. It will also be a syncophant of his who will bash the GOP at will. So, who is termed out somewhere or in labor or in accedemia who that fits that mold? Perhaps Howard Dean?

We should do everything we possibly can to see that Rahm loses the mayoral contest.

That would be so sweet.

The people of Chicago are not that ignorant to vote for Deadfish and quickly become a worse rat hole than they are now. I left Chicago in the mid 80’s and thank God I was able to. Before I left, there was a story about an Aunt and her nephew who where lost and given thug directions, than she was raped and he was beaten almost to death. That is the last memory I have of Chicago.
