University of Texas at Austin just issued an alert of an armed suspect at the Perry-Casteneda Library. Alert went out to students' cell phones. KXAN reporter told me that no shots have been fired but Austin PD is setting up a command post and UT police are hunting for suspect. Also said students are being told to go back to their dorms. IMO, it's more dangerous to have students out walking to their dorms instead of staying inside buildings but whatever...
Sirens still going on. Campus grounds eerily empty.
First shooter killed himself. Police are looking for the 2nd guy. No innocents hurt at this time.
OK, just confirmed there is a second shooter at large.
Canine unit out. SWAT on scene.
Suicide pact and one chickened out?
Strange. Apparently there was going to be a speaker at the law school on campus tonight advocating for concealed carry on campus. But that’s just what someone said and it might not be true.
Hopefully, like the Charles Whitman shootings, the public is arming up and heading to campus.
Maybe second shooter = good guy carrying on campus illegally and got outta Dodge quick after saving the day?
Concealed Carry Speaker was supposed to speak on campus tonight

“More Guns, Less Crime” is lecture by Second Amendment scholar
Time: 6-7:30 p.m.

Lott is a senior research scientist at the University of Maryland. He has held research positions at other academic institutions including the University of Chicago, Yale University and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from UCLA, but he is most known for the positions he takes in the gun rights debate.

Bottom line: Enough of an unarmed public, against the bad guys and the crazies, no matter when a concealed carry speaker speaks following a shooting by a crazy.
“Save yourself and a cop, be armed.”
“There was a rumor about a tumor
Nestled at the base of his brain.
He was sitting up there with his .36 Magnum
Laughing wildly as he bagged ‘em.
Who are we to say the boy’s insane ?”
Kinky F.
Too bad adults on campus have been deprived of their Constitutional, individual rights to keep and bear arms.
To jour-no-lists, all guns are AK-47's, and they think AK-47's are illegal.
In Texas, we have a Concealed Handgun License, i.e. CHL, and the regulations expressly forbid carry within any educational building.
Since persons holding a CHL have had thorough background checks (meeting even stricter standards than police recruits), it is safe to assume they were following the law and thus the nearest defensive weapon is probably, at best, locked in somebody's vehicle.
Temporary library worker who was going to get laid off soon due to budget cuts.
Student reporting he heard 4 shots and students started running. Then heard 2 more shots. Student claimed the shooter came past him and smiled at him.
Laz, that’s EXACTLY the picture I was thinking of when I made my comment!
TV saying electrician saw shooter. He ran past in library and up the stairs yelling woo-hoo like he was happy.
a family member attends there!....thankfully she’s safe!
They did find an aggressive cancerous tumor in his (Charles Whitman) brain at autopsy.....
