This comes from a Vegas paper, so I'll summarize:
Day 1 of the inquest into the police shooting of Eric Scott at a Las Vegas Costco emphasized the large amount of prescription painkillers found in his body. The assistant DA suggested Scott was suicidal.
Day 2 apparently spent a bunch of time explaining why there will be no video...basically, the machines weren't working, sorry.
Then the cop who was closest to Scott testified. In his testimony, he says the gun found by investigators was in its holster, and that he didn't realize the gun was in its holster when he shot Scott. That info comes about 2/3 of the way into the article:

Explain?
Uh...I think that would be LVPD...

Dr. Alane Olson, a medical examiner at the Clark County Coroner’s office, was the first witness in today’s coroner’s inquest into the shooting death of Erik Scott.
Olson was giving a detailed explanation of the seven bullets that struck Eric Scott based off her July 11 autopsy.
She said five of the shots entered his back and two entered the front of his body. One of the bullets entered his buttocks area, traveled up through his bowels and lodged in his chest.
She said it was “indeterminate” how close Scott was from the gun barrels.
She said he also had some minor scrapes on his hands and his right knee. He also had wounds associated with attempts of medical personnel to give him aid, she said.

If he was taking that amount of drugs, he should not have been carrying a gun.
But shot in the back 5 times? How can they justify that? It sounds like they just opened fire based on the fact that the Metro Cop shot first.

This just gets worse and worse.
Yep. And that depresses the hell out of me...
Both costco and the LE are facing huge civil suits let alone criminal charges if tapes showing them in the wrong appear. Yeah, all cameras mysteriously malfunction at the same time...uh huh...
The argument made in the post I responded to basically said they had their theory, gathered or manufactured evidence to fit, and discarded or lost anything that contradicted. In the Simpson case, they were so sure they had it correct, they screwed up a lot of the evidence they needed to convict.
As much as people blame that one on the race card, some of the police behavior that came out in that trial precluded conviction and would have freed him on appeal. The most telling was the video of the bedroom showing nothing on the white carpeted floor. The video presented with a later timestamp where a bloody black sock was found where nothing appeared was the first clue that something was amiss.
They're going to get it anyway....
Watch for Costco stock to plummet when it happens.
Oh, I think I put them on the shelf above the Pentagon 911 tapes.
Oh, just so you know, I figure that Simpson and/or his son are guilty of the murders and will meet true justice in the hereafter.
That sucks... I like getting my pistachios from Costco.
OK. Thanks for the explanation.
If ya got people testifying the weapon was found in the victims holster, the surveillance video won't matter....
Wow, that must be heck to clean up. :-)
Yeah, no kidding. Sounds like a bunch of telling half truths by the cops to meet their desired outcome if you ask me.
One of the cowboys shot him while he was lying face down.
Nice work, officers.
