Indiana Rep. Mike Pence edged ahead of television talk show host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for first place in the Family Research Council's Values Voters Summit 2012 presidential straw poll Saturday.
FRC President Tony Perkins said the poll results jibe with the results of a number of recent Republican primary elections for federal and state offices.
"Voters support candidates who are truly conservative both fiscally and socially," he said.
I would rather see Mr. Pence as Speaker of the House for the next 16 years. Being Vice President would be a waste of his talents.
My husband was talking about Mike Pence this morning he said he knew little about him.but that Mike seemed like the perfect one to dethrone the Muslim Communist in the white house..
I noticed the coverage on Fox on this straw poll, never mentioned that Sarah did not even attend the event.
Ya I am for Sarah, not being a sore loser at all, absolutely not! And btw Mike Pence is a very good man and am sure would be a great President if he somehow won the nomination!
I said it before the event, these polls mean nothing, just as they mean nothing when Ron Paul wins so many.
Not everybody in attendance even takes part in these straw polls, means absolutely nothing. Also in a real vote in the primaries, these people would not impact the outcome unless they all lived in the same state, and even if they did the number is to tiny.
I’m glad the huckster is losing some of his shine amongst the ‘values voters’
Pence would make a fine President. He is my congressman.
i don’t think it these stuff mean anything much. Remember Ron Paul won the last straw poll at another conservative event. You just have to stack deck in your favor
Its obvious to anyone that Palin will outnumber anyone if she tried to push for the win in straw polls. Just look at all the large crowd at her events
Pence would likely get my vote out of the gates for 2012. There are many to like. Pence has excellent communication skills, which is my #1 priority for our next selection. No more candidates who are unable to communicate an alternative message. He understandably does not come from a good position here as an unknown congressman, but he has real world experience that helps make up for that.
Our bench is growing strong, albeit young right now. Hopefully someone rises up to the challenge in 2012.
Give me a Mike Pence / Paul Ryan ticket and I’d be a happy guy, I feel those two together would stand the best chance of getting in the oval office.
DeMint/Pence 2012?
I doubt Pence is the Romney/Paul type, who bring their posse to win straw polls. And Palin wasn’t there, so this poll was no knock against her. It’s just refreshing to see a conservative instead of a hack win the thing.
Pence would absolutely get my vote for President.
There you go making sense again.
I second your nomination.
I hope Pence will run for President.
I hope Pence will run for President.
I hope Pence will run for President.
RE: I hope Pence will run for President.
You can say that again (you just did).
Hey mine too.. where are you from in IN?
I am from Columbus, and know Mr. Pence personally, (BTW: I also agree with this author)!~
J.S.
I've always thought of DeMint as a good ideas guy and a firebrand but he also has a tremendous speaking presence. Much is made of Palin’s importance, but I believe DeMint has been even more critical in these senatorial primaries.
Jim DeMint right now is the most important man in America with respect to this new American Revolution. I also feel he's more of an ideologue than Palin (which is extremely important).
I trust him at this point 100% to do and say the right thing. He's principled, fearless and articulate. Having said all this, we could more easily afford to lose Pence out of the House than DeMint out of the Senate. I'd certainly make the trade for the Oval Office, but we do need his voice or one like him somewhere in the Senate.
Hopefully we'll find another DeMint or two in this new crop of primary winners.
