Conservative activists on Saturday picked Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) as their choice for president in 2012.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin -- who was the vice presidential candidate on the unsuccessful 2008 GOP ticket -- was voted the pick for vice president in 2012.
Palin, who has helped conservative candidates storm the national election scene, was awarded the VP spot because Pence also won the vice presidential straw poll.
Tony Perkins, the head of the conservative Family Research Council, announced the results of the straw poll at the annual Values Voter summit in Washington on Saturday.

Wasn’t “Honest Abe” the last current or former congressman (only office held) elected president? Remind me what year that was? And wasn’t that in a 4-way race?
We’ve got a 1/2 term senator now.
But he’s a “constitutional scholar”, “the smartest man in the room”, a “Lightworker”, bringer of “hope and change”, a “transformational figure”, the “post-racial president” and the “12th Imam.”
At least one turns out to be accurate, the iman one.
Pleasantly surprised. That would be a good choice.
I really hope that Pence makes a run for House Speaker.
<< Weve got a 1/2 term senator now. >>
Less than one-third, actually. Not that he did anything except run for another office while he was there.
Imagine getting a job and your boss comes over to you and says, “What are you doing?” and your answer is, “I’m looking for another job.” How long do you think you’d last there?
I’m a Palin supporter, but Pence would be a welcome addition. In 1980, Phil Crane was considered more conservative than Reagan himself. His presence made the whole campaign better, not worse. Palin herself seems to believe in a more the merrier approach to the primary.
Remind me again about the nationwide enthusiastic support Mike Pence has generated for a 2012 presidential bid?
Pissant, your relentless quest to find any article that undermines Sarah Palin is becoming laughable.
Pence is my top choice for President at the moment, but of course it will depend on the candidates’ platforms. Right now they can just talk, but in a year or so they’ll have to take stands on specific issues like amnesty.
And he was also nominated as a compromise candidate for the Republican party.
He had, however, made a national name for himself on the topic of slavery, and especially in his debates with Stephen Douglas.
Pence went to Alaska to help Miller right after the election. He and Sarah working together?
If Pence runs, he has my support.
Really. I didn’t know that.
I’ve seen Mike Pence in person. He’s impressive, well-spoken and one smart cookie.
You betcha.
Just caught a mention in one of the many articles out the night of the Alaskan primary....He went up to Alaska to give support to Miller when it came out the RNSC were sending in the lawyers to support mirCOWski.
Mike used to be on the radio in Indy, remember listening to him a couple of times. Am sort of hoping he’ll take on Lugar next time he’s up.
Pence would have been my choice in 2008 had he ran. I hope he runs in 2012. Along with DeMint, Pence is one of the few prospective candidates who actually opposed overspending when it came from the GOP. He was one of the ones who led the House revolt against the Bush/McCain/Palin supported TARP bill.
Frankly, I resent someone sanctifying a prospective candidate for the Presidency, especially before any have declared their candidacy. I always thought that they had to contest for the privilege!
I’m with you... and him!
Look at his bio, his work in the House is so impressive; he goes every year to combat zones, he spends his trips abroad not in vacation spots, but in Pakistan, Egypt, etc., works on laws re child porn and like areas. He is the solid choice. He says he is a Christian, conservative and Republican, in that order. I saw him interviewed for CBN 700 Club and he talked about his life, salvation, and walk with Christ. He’s the man.
