(Reuters) - Republican candidate Marco Rubio has opened a clear lead in a Florida Senate race, becoming the latest "Tea Party" favorite to benefit from voter anger at Washington, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found on Wednesday.
Six weeks ahead of Nov. 2 congressional elections, Rubio leads state Governor Charlie Crist, an independent, by 40 percent to 26 percent among likely voters, the poll found. Democrat Kendrick Meek trails at 21 percent.

Republican Marco Rubio continues to hold a double-digit lead over independent candidate Charlie Crist in Floridas contentious race for the U.S. Senate.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Florida finds Rubio with 41% support. Crist, the states current governor, earns 30% of the vote, with Democrat Kendrick Meek still running third with 23%. Two percent (2%) like another candidate, and four percent (4%) are undecided.

Crist just announced that he’s withdrawing his opposition to gay marriage. I doubt that will help him in the polls.
Voter anger at DEMOCRATS AND RINOS!!
Never thought I’d cheer for a dem but DAMN, I hope Meek passes Crist (with Rubio winning big, of course)!
I think this goes to prove that in general if you can’t win your party’s nomination, you aren’t going to win the general election. (Joe Lieberman is the notable exception to the rule.)
Crist is a windsock looking for a direction to point to.
Crist is a disloyal self-absorbed hack that would say or do anything to get elected. He is the worst of the worst of what is wrong with Washington today.
Virtually all public polls released in September (Reuters, Rasmussen, Sunshine News, Fox) have Rubio leading by double digits and polling in the low 40’s against Crist and Meek. The only poll that shows it closer is from CNN using registered voters and even then Marco leads by two points.
Jeb’s big mistake...Crist is toast in Florida...People do not like a two faced B...... He gave us McCain... another RINO gone GOOD...
The People vs the Elitists.
Doesn’t matter what letter they have after their name,
if they are elitists, they’re out.
Scott ahead of Sink also FWIW in Reuters/Ipsos.
“Crist just announced that hes withdrawing his opposition to gay marriage.”
Go Marco!!!
Jeb was a good governor but went along with the party chiefs here, who for some reason loved Crist. When I worked on the Bush (W) campaign, one of our biggest problems was dealing with the state party offices. They always, always chose the wrong people, either as appointees or as employees, and supported the wrong candidates.
They were actually not very supportive of GWB because they regarded him as too conservative! And they provided lukewarm support at best.
I think the rank and file simply ain’t gonna take it any more, and I’m sure the folks in Tallahassee are scratching their balding gray heads.
The case with Lieberman was different. Although I part company with him on critical issues, such as the right to life, he is a decent, honest guy. And he didn't quit his party, he was shoved aside by sniveling Dem extremists because of his patriotic support of our troops in Iraq. He didn't switch, he wasn't corrupt, he didn't betray his base or go back on his promises. Unlike Crist and his ilk.
that’s good. Windsock Rinos.
The FL Senate polls have been remarkably consistent of late:
Rubio/Crist/Meek
40/ 32/ 17 PPP (D) 8/23/10
40/ 30/ 21 Rasmussen 8/25/10
43/ 27/ 21 FoxNews 9/13/10
41/ 30/ 23 Rasmussen 9/15/10
Well, it is pretty obvious that most candidates who lose their primaries don’t win in the general election, most often because they don’t appear on the ballot.(sarc)
I do agree that independent bids are extremely difficult in most places. Leiberman benefited from the GOP abandoning their candidate once he declared as an independent. Democrats haven’t done that to Meek, so Crist can’t make the inroads with them that he needs to beat Rubio. There’s also the fact that every lurch to the left is costing Crist his remaining support amongst Republicans and even some independents.
Whoah.
