Gibbs, Boehner trade shots

Following House Republican Leader John Boehner’s new flexibility on tax cuts during a “Face the Nation” interview, he and White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs traded statements Sunday evening as the two sides sought to box in the other.

From the White House – “Statement by Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on Representative Boehner’s Change in Position on Tax Cuts for the Middle Class: We welcome John Boehner's change in position and support for the middle class tax cuts, but time will tell if his actions will be anything but continued support for the failed policies that got us into this mess.”

From Boehner’s office -- “Boehner Responds to Statement by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on President Obama's Job-Killing Tax Hike: Raising taxes on any American, and especially small businesses, in a struggling economy is the exact wrong thing to do, a position shared by not only by my Republican colleagues, and several of my Democratic colleagues, but by a vast number of economists.

"If the president is serious about job creation, there's a clear way forward, and that's for us to come together and pass legislation immediately that cuts spending to 2008 levels for the next year and stops all of the coming tax hikes by freezing all current tax rates for the next two years. Anything short of that may selfishly check a political box for the president, but it fails the American people.

"Instead of resorting to tired old class warfare rhetoric, pitting one working American against another, the president and the Democratic leadership should start working with us this week to ensure a fair and open debate to pass legislation to cut spending and freeze tax rates without any further delay."

All that Herr Gibbells needs is a club foot. He’s got the lying down damn near perfect.

Boehner is apparently not smart enough to point out that the recession started AFTER the Dems took the Congress in 2006.

This is what you get when you attempt to dance with pigs to their own music. Boehner stupidly responded to 'rats on their own turf, and now he's f*ing it all up by getting engaged with 'Rat-piggie Gibbs in his own wallow. Dumb stupid republicans.

I don't think of Boehner as a conservative or a candidate for Mensa. But you know what? It's the Obama team that looks foolish, trying to somehow make him the enemy in the HOR, when they've got Pelosi on their side.

Two things I can count on that are very similar:

1) Cleaning the crap out of our cat’s litter box on a daily basis
2) Crap that comes out of Robert Gibbs’ mouth on a daily basis

Watching Fox right now, Geraldo is making hay on the "blockbuster" news that "Boehner has "blinked" and approved a tax hike "for the rich." Now does everyone get it?

Barry is prejudiced against the employer class, and pro the employee class, which doesn’t work because employees, by definition, need employers. DUH! He is the most econo-ignorant President in history.

John Boehner has got to go! If the House is taken back and he is the leader, he will dismantle the Republican majority by compromising with Democrats, just like he is is now on tax cuts for only the middle class! A true leader will stand strong on his principles and would make the case for tax cuts for all Americans.

Were you John Boehner and the choice was between:

1. Renewing none of the Bush tax cuts...

2. Or renewing the Bush tax cuts for all but the top bracket...

Which would you do?

That's the question Boehner was asked. And, if you answered it differently than he did, you would be the one who had to go.

Geraldo is making hay

If you pay attention to anything Geraldo interprets or says, you're the dumb one.

Boehmer's answer should have been principled, such as this:

"If the object is jobs for Americans, then no citizen should have a tax increase, including the wealthy ones. By the way, when was the last time you asked a poor man for a job?"

John Boehner, got one of your staff reading this stuff???

Have your boss come out and say that he doesn't know if he wants the speakers job. For two hears he has attempted to work with the President but has been ignored at every true. Say that he is going to work with the Republication to come up with a person Obie thinks he can work with. The Republicans would really appreciate his input.

Obie's head would explode.

If you want what is best for America, you would choose tax breaks for all. Giving tax breaks to the middle class and those below will not start the economy. The poor invest none and hire no one. The middle class invest little and only hire for low wage services. Most high paying wages are derived from those who invest capital in business or new business ventures. Whether you like it or not, our economy is dependent on the wealth of the rich! The more they spend and invest, the better off you are!

Of course. And that's what Boehner thinks, too.

But he wasn't given that choice.

Did you hear the actual exchange? Boehner handled it deftly -- stating that limiting the extension to the middle class was "bad policy". But, if it was some tax cuts compared to none, he would vote for "some".

Anybody who heard the exchange knew exactly what he meant. It was the media who misrepresented his words and positioned him as "ready to compromise".

Anytime the media reports the words of a conservative, you'd better check what the words really were.
