What fallout? His claims will save him from backlash imo.

His calling fellow Americans unpatriotic will not stop the burning and he will still have to deal with any backlash in the form of violence against his troops. What he has done is prove he lacks conviction.

Weird question.

Of course it's not a crime.

But yet another indicator of the group's lack of discretion, wisdom and character.

I believe that the Romans did that.

It will be a propaganda for Al Qaida to paint Christians as barbarian more than their own extremism and let them paint Christians as uncivilized in their perspective.

They do that already. Truth has nothing to do with it.

If we do not have the right to free speech in this country, we are lost. We cannot bow down to our enemy as Obama did, as this administration is vigorously demanding that we do.

"We are hoping that the pastor decides not to do this. We're hoping against hope that if he does, it won't be covered as an act of patriotism."

"We want to be judged by who we are as a nation, not by something that is so aberrational and we will make that case as strongly as possible."

~Hillary Clinton

Pope baptizes famous Muslim convert

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1990056/posts

I, personally, think Pope Benedict has the right idea.

That whole FR thread, above, is worth reading.

Read also what he said at Regensburg (January 2006), asking whether Islam was closed-off to reason and thus prone to violence. I'm sure you remember that in the aftermath of the Regensburg lecture,

So, Lurker, you don't "take the Pope seriously"?

Some people do.

I’m not disagreeing with you that they are jerks, but that isn’t the point.

The point is that the rest of the world needs to accept the fact that our Constitution guarantees their free speech, and if their outrage is because of that, then they deserve to be eliminated, and it should reflect much worse on them, than on this stupid church.

I like the burning idea. Draw the Muslims out and show them for what they.

This will not draw them out. The majority of the Muslims will be able to sit back and claim victim status.

Regarding Reagan!!! Had Reagan been President when those muslime dogs flew into and destroy the Towers, (which was an act of war on all of America, by the Nation of Islam), we would not even be discussing the right and wrongs of the burning of those damned books.

HE would have BOMBED THE WHOLE DAMNED NATIONS OF ISLAM, and he would not have thought twice, nor stopped to get permission from the idiots in Congress to do so. End of that chapter.

He took no gaff from anyone, unfortunately we have no REAL leaders any longer, we are not allowed to win wars.

Well, we do have Many REAL LEADERS, they just do not have the power to do what is needed to rid the world of the Islamic Cancer.

As a Catholic, internal Evangelical disputes are for me to observe and not to comment on, since, from my point of view, they are all in error.

You can believe what you want. I was raised in a military family and am pro-military all the way, so I am disgusted that our leaders put our military in no win situations.

Burn the Quran?... So What?

It’s called Obama and David Petraeus are among the most politically correct military Commander-in-Chief and Top General we have had. This is sad, but very true. They fail to ask the question, which gets the radicals in Afghanistan and Iraq more ticked? Some guy burning a Koran or the “collateral damage” to their own people. There is no way to address every bit of potential Anti-American Propaganda out there, or to silence every little whacko who burns a Koran. But one can stop running one’s mouth and assisting the enemies, which is exactly what Petraeus and Obama are doing, they are spilling the beans for all the world to hear that some nut is burning a Koran. Think as you wish, but I feel that it’s not far out to call Obama and Petraeus’s actions TREASON. They let the whole world over know about what even the smallest person does to disrespect the enemy, and wonder why the enemy has so much propaganda against America: a great deal comes from the words they spout out of their very own mouths!

They were wrong, Matthew 24:5 “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.

That is one of the most bizarre, irrelevant, insulting comebacks I have ever read,

You deserve it, our opinions on this demonstration in Florida can be expressed freely without you trying to require current military service in Afghanistan or Iraq to do it, you aren't even a veteran at all yet you are sure challenging veterans and non veterans here today for addressing this purely domestic issue of a public demonstration in Florida.

I believe that the Romans did that.

The Eastern Gate was sealed in 1541 by the Ottoman Turks. They did it to prevent the fulfillment of the prophesy by which Messiah would enter Jerusalem. Also, the cemetery in front of the gate is a muslim cemetery built by muslims again in order to prevent Messiah from entering the City. There were no muslims when the Romans controlled Judea.

Your link also verifies that Pope Benedict XVI was quoting Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus:

The passage originally appeared in the “Dialogue Held With A Certain Persian, the Worthy Mouterizes, in Anakara of Galatia[citation needed] written in 1391 as an expression of the views of the Byzantine emperor Manuel II Paleologus, one of the last Christian rulers before the Fall of Constantinople to the Muslim Ottoman Empire ...

Pope Benedict XVI made this statement clearly identifying its author as Paleologus:

But naturally the emperor also knew the instructions, developed later and recorded in the Qur’an, concerning holy war. Without descending to details, such as the difference in treatment accorded to those who have the “Book” and the “infidels,” he turns to his interlocutor somewhat brusquely with the central question on the relationship between religion and violence in general, in these words:

Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.

I also believe that Pope Benedict XVI chose this quote wisely.

You didn't say that. You said that those who worship Allah, e.g. all Arab Christians, are not worshiping the Christian God.
