I agree with you. However, this protest accomplishes NOTHING. It gives Christianity a black eye. You may think it will show Muslims for what they are, violent. All it will really do is incite violence and create sympathy for them.

It will be a propaganda for Al Qaida to paint Christians as barbarian more than their own extremism and let them paint Christians as uncivilized in their perspective. Extremism often lose international public support, and when you lose public support, you are in bad shape in the war against terrorism. Al Qaida is likely viewing the move of Dove as an opportunity to fuel more attacks through angry local Afghans and view Dove supporting Al Qaida for their purpose of terrorism. In other words, Dove is supporting Al Qaida and terrorism in the perspective of Al Qaida.

Thank you for your service, Ruffian.

ansel, not a stupid question, and not in the least 'embarrassing.'

There are boatloads of keyboard commandos around here who speak belligerant words from the safety of mommy's basement. They haven't earned the right to say, go ahead. Put our troops at risk. Ruffian has.

You must certainly be aware of these blowhard phonies, aren't you, ansel? If not, I'm glad to have illuminated your darkness.

Are you a soldier in the field of battle? Have you served in Iraq or Afghanistan?

Leaders of the large Christian denominations have an obligation to protect their flock. What Jones does in Florida will not harm his followers in Indonesia as he has none there or anywhere beyond his local community.

The Catholic church does have members in Indonesia, some of whom will be beaten, raped and murdered in a few days if Jones follows through with his plans. Therefore, the Catholic church must take steps to protect it's members worldwide.

The National Association of Evangelicals?

Never heard of ‘em.

Who elected them to be the pope?

For me, being a Protestant means not being part of any church that is married to any government.

The RCC was not and is not the only state church.

The Orthodox.

The Church of England.

Lutherans in Deustschland.

John Calvin in Geneva.

All five are examples of state churches.

Bleh.

Things are complicated enough in Iraq without adding things like this to the mix. Plenty of people are condemning Petraeus. He will have to deal with the fallout.

That IS a problem.

But it doesn't make the Pope's statement any less true.

Burning the Koran is outrageous and useless......other than the emotional need in those doing it.

I'm glad the Pope spoke up against it. It needs to be said by all responsible Christians worldwide.

Okay, I’ll take that, but what do you have to say about NAE denouncing it too.

According to the ACLU, was OK for Neo-Nazis to parade through Skokie, IL. Where are THEY now? I wouldn’t do what this pastor is doing, but the selective outrage among the left and the appeasers everywhere is grating.

All the bed-wetting over this issue is ridiculous. Do people have the right to free expression or not?
Now the Vatican is all wee-wee’d up like our fearless leader.

The question was embarrassingly stupid, military service and especially military service in specifically Iraq or Afghanistan as a requirement to discuss a demonstration by a church in America is childish nonsense.

The question is what is a General doing speaking out against a little local church demonstration in Florida, that is the troubling question, he is the one that has stepped out of his boundaries of right to address something, no General should be coming out to international Islam against 50 individuals in an American church in Florida.

See my tagline. I have a vested interest in the well being of our troops.

btw, I'm 61 years old and am not advocating putting our troops at greater risk.

That, FYI, is why I asked the question. Anyone saying we should further endanger our troops had better have some pretty good credentials and not be sitting at home pretending to be a tough guy without thinking about the cost.

That is one of the most bizarre, irrelevant, insulting comebacks I have ever read, and it is absolutely unrelated to the question I asked and the reason for asking it.

Perhaps you should think for a few moments before posting, ansel.

You're embarrassing yourself.

See you around.

...it’s actually getting a lot of favorable press for the Muslims...

I've seen any number of Americans wondering why the President is outraged by Koran burning but supports public funding for those who defile Christian symbols. Islam is being privileged in American society and this is a fundamental strategem of jihad. To treat Islam the same as other religions is the American way. I think this incident is encouraging Americans to oppose jihad which is bad for the Muslims.

Burning the Koran is not morally right or respectful. It is a protected act under the First Amendment, but trust me, I wouldn’t regard numerous things I could do under the First Amendment as correct. I also think the message is being directed at the wrong people as well. The politicians need to get the message by protest, or being voted out of office, that you do not blatantly favor Islam over other religions. Muslims shouldn’t be beyond the ability to turn the other cheek in some situations, a simple Koran-burning being one of them. This guy is about the same as a moron who burns a Bible and throws it on the steps of a Church.

Is that a crime?

‘There is only one true God, but to lend validity to Islam and say Allah is the same as Jehovah is accepting the lies of their prophet. We must stand our ground.’

Arabic speaking Christians have used the word ‘Allah’ to refer to God since the days of the Apostles.

Actually it does give me a warm fuzzy feeling to finally get an insult into those filthy muslimes dogs faces, about damn time someone did.

Would Reagan be caught doing it? Perhaps he would enjoy a good roast as well as anyone, I tend to think he would.

Will this do any good? I think not, except to give a GREAT many Patriot Americans some relief, and for that is is worth every risk.

Think of it as a Pressure Cooker pressure/safety valve.
