WASHINGTON, D.C. Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan took the stage Thursday to defend Park51, the mosque and community center slated to rise near Ground Zero.
Let common sense prevail, he said. Let righteousness prevail. Muslims are here. We are not terrorists.
Farrakhan spoke from the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., where he stood alongside other members of the Coalition of African American Muslims to show his support for the controversial project.
Dozens of people live-tweeted his remarks, which were also Webcast.
Farrakhan first poked fun at the concept of hallowed ground around the World Trade Center, noting that strip clubs and a porn shop operate nearby.
But then he turned serious and said lower Manhattan is a sacred space not just because of 9/11, but because the neighborhood served as an African burial ground in New Yorks early days.
That ground is also hallowed to us, Farrakhan said.
Farrakhan asserted the right of Park51s sponsors to build the center, saying that those who oppose it are defiling and tearing up the Constitution.
He also said that true Muslims abhor terrorism.
We do not allow anyone on our watch to do some silly act, to deprive an innocent human being of their life, Farrakhan said. If we see it, we will stop it.

If you oppose Islam, any day Louis Farrakan speaks publicly is a good day.

The mudslims that died there: the terrorists, and a few innocent WTC visitors and employees. Also dying there were thousands of Americans. Bottom line, the mosque would be a 911 Memorial VICTORY mosque.

Someone needs to hold a good old fashioned pork barbecue cook out on the site.

That is what I said on day 1... the evil muslims want to build a memorial to mohammed atta and the other terrorists who are considered their martyrs. They MURDERED 3,000 Americans and now they want to pray to them. They are evil.

the neighborhood served as an African burial groundYeah nitwit, for africans sold into slavery by muslims. More of the "anywhere a muslim takes a dump" is sacred ground. Sons of pig f'n dogs.

Which should tell you that we'd rather have strip clubs and porno shops than mosques, Louie.

That’s why the area should be zoned for dog parks and delis that serve pork dishes.

Well...if Calypso Louie is for the mosque, I might have to change my mind and back the Islamofascists. I wouldn’t want to lose my chance at a window seat on the “mother ship.”

Farrakhan comes out pro mosque.
Now there’s a ringing endorsement.
Same as Hamas. One terrorist to another.
