New polls spell gloom for Obama's Democrats

WASHINGTON (AFP) – New opinion polls Tuesday made painful reading for President Barack Obama's Democrats, cementing conventional wisdom that they face a pounding by Republicans in November's congressional elections.

The surveys, published after the Labor Day weekend, the traditional campaign kick-off date, suggest voters have soured on Obama, see him as too liberal and are increasingly pessimistic about the sluggish economic recovery.

At a time of high unemployment and economic pain, it appears that the cocktail of hope and change that powered Obama to the presidency has drained away and that a short era of Democratic political dominance may be closing.

Yet, the polls also suggest that despite their anger at incumbent Democrats, the public has little genuine affection for Republicans, opening possible lines of attack for the White House as it seeks to limit the damage.

A Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows Republicans have a yawning 49 percent to 40 percent advantage among likely voters, which would probably be enough for them to grab back control of the House of Representatives.

All 435 House seats are up for grabs along with 37 of the 100 Senate seats in the November 2 election.

Several key analysts believe Republicans are in reach of winning the 39 seats they need to capture the House but are less likely to snatch the Senate.

Should Republicans win or capture both chambers, they could spell the end of Obama's sweeping reform agenda and usher in a period of tense divided government.

"The Clintons are not stupid, and they can change into whatever they want voters to believe. With the country trending to the right and rejecting socialist policies of 0bama, there’s no way she’s gonna attack the him from left. She’ll put herself in the center, and defines Palin or other GOP candidate as extreme right."

Keep in mind that she would have to win the primary first. That's a big task to do against a sitting President. The idealogues vote in the primaries. What's their biggest beef? That he didn't properly implement the solutions he talked of and didn't go far enough. To be sure, she would tack hard right for the general election. For the primary, she may go after his left flank and pick off all of those dissatisfied ultra liberal lefties. Remember, we're talking about Dems here who have no core beliefs except getting elected...

The Republicans are blowing a golden opportunity to turn a simple rout into a tsunami. As things stand right now, they should easily pickup 40-50 seats and gain a slim margin in the House but it could be so much more if only they can get together and come up with a unified strategy to undo the damage Obama has already done.

I'm talking a game plan similar to the GOP's "Contract For America" that was so successful in the 1994 mid-terms. The reason the Democrats were caught by surprise back then is because the Republicans had a plan and brought a lot of people to the polls. For starters, they could start with a promise to repeal Obamacare.

If the GOP can put together a basic strategy with a list of goals, they can not only easily pickup 100+ seats in the House and keep the majority for many years to come but they will likely take the senate as well.

” but now I feel in them a deep anger that they didn’t have against Bush that they now have against the dems. “

It’s more fundamental. Your students are facing a lifetime of debt, carrying another generation on welfare, no jobs, no opportunities, no stability, feeling panicky over losing what they do have, and a sense of being FED UP with the way America has been deteriorating. And Washington has been ignoring the SPECIFIC wishes of the people for so long, it’s all coming to a head.

There’s always been complaining, but this is something that people are now acting on. Obama is SO obviously running roughshod over the will of the people and is so irresponsible and deliberately throwing his posh lifetsyle in the faces of an increasingly hungry public.

“If she has them, the private threat made to him to release his long form birth certificate, release of his college applications that reflect he applied as a foreign exchange student and his college GPA’s that reflect poor grades.”

I bet she’ll be the one to unite the Dems against Obama. I don’t doubt that either way, she’ll be the last hope of the Dems, which goes to show the Dem mindset. She’ll fight dirty and Obama has turned into the worst thing to happen to the Democrat party. It would not surprise me if she did have the goods on Obama. She’s cunning and ruthless and that is what is needed at this point.

it would not surprise me if she marketed herself as a centrist. She’ll do what it takes and she won’t have the guts to implement a socialist agenda.

When the trash is removed and the swamp drained how long will it be before the stench will be gone and there will be fresh air once again in the people’s house?

I’ve been getting about three polling phone calls per week. Whether the caller is automated or a real person, I always hang up and never answer a poll.

I can’t stand Obama or the Obamoronic Party. Nor do I intend to give my opinion to some unknown caller. I will vote. And although I don’t have much use for Republicans, I will vote a straight Republican ticket.

First, we should get rid of the Obamacrats (Democrats), and then we should go on and separate the sheep from the goats.

“The only poll that counts is on the first Tuesday in November or November 2, 2010 this time around. Take nothing for granted. The Democrats will be voting early and often as usual!”

Yup, it’s GOTV in all precincts - all hands of on deck - til Nov.!! Then we’ll see just how much of a smackdown we deliver.

Did I advocate anywhere (or have I ever) about not supporting Republican party? In fact, I have argued otherwise. My comments were in direct discussion of the poll finding that only 30% have a favorable rating of the Republican party vs. 36% having a favorable rating of the Rat party, and how the media misinterprets what this means. Geesh!

All they need is ONE chamber with TEA party bayonets poking them in the backside everytime they start talking about “their friends” on the other side of the aisle.

Any candidate that has a 9 point lead is not going to be yawning.”

If the RATS were up like this, they’d be screaming at the top of their lungs, ‘it’s a massive, insurmountable lead!’

Instead they use the word ‘yawning?’ Seriously? This reminds me of a George Carlin skit on word choice in football and baseball...funny skit.

I truly wish it were so! However, most of the students remain clueless, no matter how many times I tell them to wake up.

It is other faculty and staff that are amazing me. I should have said I work at a Southern university which is not a leftwing haven, but still has an occasional moonbat. Nevertheless, the majority are pissed off, and, as they say at McDonalds, I’m lovin’ it.

We should elect fiscally responsible people to Congress. Whom ever is elected should take a pledge to an immediate stop of deficit spending. Reduce size and scope of Federal, State and local government by at least 20% over the next two years, with a goal of reducing the size and scope of government by 60% over the next 10 years.

BREAKING NEWS !! Sorry to butt in but I just heard Chicago's Mayor Daley just announced he will not stand for re-election. He said "it's time to move on". That's all the details at the moment.

Leni, if this is true, this deserves a thread. A breaking news thread.
