A Month in the life of George W. Bush (News and many Photos) September 2005
georgewbush-whitehouse.archives.gov/news ^ | September 5, 2010

The month of September 2005 was a very busy month for President Bush after Katrina came on land at the Gulf coast and damaged the area. We see President Bush and First Lady Laura visiting New Orleans and other affected areas in Louisiana and Mississippi to comfort the victims of the hurricane and bring aid
The country lost Chief Justice William Renquist who passed away on September 3, 2005
President Bush nominated Judge Roberts to become the next Chief Supreme Court Justice. On September 29th Justice Roberts was sworn in as the 20th? Supreme Court Chief Justice.
President Bush remembered 9/11 heroes at a Medal of Valor ceremony. He also met with several foreign leaders and addressed the Useless Nations
For the quote of the month I have chosen President Bush’s Remarks which he gave at the National Day of Prayer and Remembrance Service on September 16, 2005

Thank you so much for posting this interview - it was remarkable!

Greetings to all my old-time friends - I finally retired on May 25th !!!!!!

Many of you remember that I was seriously injured a couple of years ago - and I’m still recovering - but doing extremely well. I returned to work in Nov of 2010, and now I’ve finally found it feasible to retire.

I hope to be much more visable on FR, but I have a few projects to get completed first; two of them are new books I’m planning to write.

I’ve actually been very busy since I retired - my sister visited (the sister who cared for me when I was injured), and we had a fun 3 weeks together (including lunch at the Hotel Dell). While she was here (and it’s still continuing), I started fixing up my apt - my landlord even helped by installing new flooring in my kitchen and bathroom. I decided to use my vacation monies - and after all, I was going to be spending a lot more time at home. The transformation is almost done and I can move on to other things.

Again, greetings to all my old and hopefully new friends at FR.

Here’s President Bush at the book launch reception for the “4 Percent Solution” book in Dallas this evening. He looks dapper in that preppy blazer and black slacks!

Maybe he was just gathering his thoughts in that top picture, but he sure looked tired to me. I miss him so much!

I’ve never seen a picture of Obama hugging a child like President Bush does; that is, like he MEANS it!

I believe he had a lot to do earlier that day so he looked kind of exhausted. Still, GW showed up looking good and sharp! :)

You’re absolutely right Suzi. Obozo is as cold as a fish who can’t seem to show any real human emotion. It’s not in his DNA.

The contrast between him and President Bush is very striking.

I just found President Bush's column that was published in the WP.

He writes about his resent trip to Zambia where he, Laura helped to refurbish the women's clinic in Kabwe.

Here is an excerpt of it

Some 25,000 delegates are gathering in Washington this week for the 2012 International AIDS Conference. This is a moment of exceptional promise. Gains in AIDS treatment are remarkable — and continuing.

One of the saddest tragedies in the world is for people to die of HIV/AIDS when lifesaving medicines are available. Just a decade ago, that tragedy was playing out across Africa. Thanks to the generosity of the American people, this is no longer the case today. Through the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Malaria and Tuberculosis — working with committed governments, faith-based and community organizations, and the private sector — treatment and prevention have advanced at an almost unimaginable pace. This month, the Joint United Nations Program on AIDS (UNAIDS) announced that 6.2 million people are on lifesaving antiretroviral AIDS drugs in sub-Saharan Africa — up from just 100,000 in 2003. This is more than a vast statistic. It is a series of real people’s names — those of nurses, doctors, civil servants, farmers, students, entrepreneurs and parents who did not leave orphans behind. It is proof of what many in Africa call the Lazarus effect: Communities once given up for dead have been brought back to life, and millions of men, women and children are alive to build their futures.

You can read the entire column here

Extend the success against AIDS to other devastating diseases

Our President and First Lady dropped by at a charter school in Boston today. Love the way how they interacted with the kids - just downright sweet and approachable! This is one of the reasons why embodied class and dignity in the White House.

President and Mrs. Bush visited Brooke Mattapan Charter School in Boston, MA, where they participated in a roundtable discussion about the Bush Institute's Alliance to Reform Education Leadership, an effort focused on training, recruiting and empowering school principals. While at Brooke Mattapan, they also visited with students and dropped in on training for incoming Brooke Charter School teachers. Photo Credit: Grant Miller

Thank you for all of the wonderful pics. President Bush looks terrific, and so does Laura. How does she always look as cool as a cucumber, even in Africa. Great people.

I was born and raised in Mattapan! :-)

And George H. W. Bush was born right around the corner from my house in Milton MA, which is the next town.

Nice to see that the schools have improved! :-)
