The Las Vegas Review-Journal’s copyright infringement lawsuit partner on Friday sued U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle over R-J material posted on her website, allegedly without authorization.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas by Righthaven LLC, seeks damages of $150,000 against Angle personally and forfeiture of her website domain name sharronangle.com.

It’s the worst sort of ugly politics, and I hope the voters of Nevada see through it.

They probably won't. Too many DUMB voters in all of America. They get the Government they voted into office.

So.

Is anyone working yet to organize an advertiser boycott of LVRJ?

Because you have to understand how the senate works. I will take 51 republicans including Rino's anytime over 51 democrat senators.

lmao, no, it is you without a clue as to how the Senate works.

Your model was NOT what happened when Bush had his "Republican" majority either. The RINOS sided with the Democrats to a degree that the conservatives were unable to enact serious policy changes. When the "moderate" policies failed (as they alwas do) the Republican Party as a whole ended up taking the blame for the consequences of softened leftist policies.

We've already tried it your way and what it gave us was such public revulsion as to elect a filibuster proof Democrat majority.

Never again loudmouth, never again. We will win on our ideas or let the left overplay their hand and endure the meltdown sooner while we still have the means to fight.

Just another way that Nazi Reid is trying to get all his buddies to try to take the eyes of the voters of Nevada off the ball and let him get reelected. Reid’s son is so ashamed of his last name, he doesn’t even use it on billboards, posters, commercials...etc....Pretty bad when your own son is trying to disown you.

So the other media outlets are going to milk this for all it is worth to drum up negative publicity for Angle. Typical...and pitiful.

I’m almost 100% certain it is perfectly legal for official political candidates to use media articles for campaigns and campaigning without renumeration to the media copyright owner...

This is why politicians will continue to use certain pop music songs on the campaign trail even after the owner/performer of the song has expressly demanded a stoppage to the use of the piece of music....

This is why politicians will send out excerpts of news articles in campaign mail flyers.

At first I thought the fact that the lead partner from Righthaven worked with Michelle Obama in Chicago was a coincidence. After all, we all know there are a lot of bad lawyers out there...

Now, I’m wondering if they just sued DU and the Nevada DNC for appearance sake. No-one would be the wiser if the Nevada DNC and DU agreed to “settlements” and agreed to keep the details under-wraps. Would be a nice little work-around to pay them off for this hit on Angle as well. Any contribution from Reid’s campaign to the Nevada state DNC which was then passed on to pay the “settlements” could be easily covered, IMHO.

Maybe there really is something to the fact that MObama and the guy from Righthaven worked in the same Chicago lawfirm, in the same department, at the same time. I’m really wondering now what happened that Michelle lost her law license... Were any of her co-workers in on whatever game she was playing?

i don’t know if anyone can answer this question or not, but is Righthaven in an operating agreement with the Journal? If so, then why does RH purchase the copyrights outright and THEN sue? I’m also wondering how RH can go after people (as they have in some cases) for alleged infrigement during the time period before they acquired said copyrights? Also curious on why Righthaven is only purchasing (separately) the copyrights for specific articles... It seems like they are only interested in articles they can get something out of through lawsuits.

If Righthaven is not acting on behalf of the LVRJ, then how can they claim any damages at all? Righthaven does not publish content, their clients are NOT the people they are claiming the websites are ‘targetting’, so how can they claim they’ve sustained damages?

I guess perhaps I am just not understanding why RH would have to purchase the copyrights if they really are working for the LVRJ?

Yes, we would be better off with RINO's than democrat senators. Why? Because you have to understand how the senate works. If 51 senators have "R" behind their name, then every committee chair is Republican. It is they who can push or hold up legislation. I will take 51 republicans including Rino's anytime over 51 democrat senators.

Agree

Thought you’d be interested to also know that Gibson worked with Michelle Obama at the same lawfirm in Chicago, at the same time, and in the same department. Makes me even more curious why Michelle gave up her license. Gibson, I’m positive, was just as nasty a lawyer as he is now — one doesn’t go from good to bad THAT easily - especially trying to get away with something like this.

Also, in another post that I wrote to Jim, it seems to me it’d be awful easy for money to change hands from Reid to RH through a “quiet” settlement of the lawsuit against the Nevada Dem Party.

I wouldn’t put anything past these people — and the connection to the Obamas is just too close for comfort on this case especially...

All JMHO, and speculation. I’m just thinking of that old saying of “if it walks like a duck”. It seems that every other Obama acquaintance and co-workers we’ve heard of are all criminals of one kind or another. Why should Mr. Gibson break the mold???

“Nevada DNC” in my first post above should have read the Nevada Dem Party.

I am trying to support those republicans who have the best chance to defeat the democrat in their respective state.

And at the moment, in Nevada, who is that Republican with the best chance to defeat Reid? Sharron Angle.

When Hoffman lost to a democrat in NY, he has absolutely no power to change anything.

Until very late in the campaign, 'moderate' and establishment Republicans were NOT supporting Hoffman. Besides, that was the weirdest election I've ever seen. Not at all typical.

Electing a few very conservative politicians is not going to shift to country over to so-called far right-wing extremism. It will shift it slightly away from the far left-wing extremism that has controlled it for the past 2 years, and deeply influenced it for the past 4 years.

The Greatest Generation isn't the Greatest Generation simply because they won a war, but because they won a war they had very little chance to win when they entered that war. We Americans do the seemingly impossible. Sharron Angle can do the seemingly impossible.

These lawsuits against web sites and blogs are disturbing. However, to go after a campaign website is especially disturbing because political ads are generally protected due to first amendment issues. How often do you see newspaper quotes in TV ads? In print flyers? All the time. Why should a politician's campaign site not be able to link to an article on an external news source?

The Reid and Obama connections to this have been established. This is dirty politics, pure and simple. Angle needs to use this to rally donors nationwide to her.

Angle is still close with Reid, and I believe the trend nationally is towards the Republicans.

The national Republicans (RNC, NRSC, etc.) need to target Reid and assist Angle. The national Republicans should fund ads in Nevada linking Reid, Obama, and Righthaven. The national Republicans should fund ads attacking Reid to drive up his negatives.

Finally, November 3rd, the new Republicans need to call for a house cleaning at the RNC, NRSC, and NRCC. 2010 has the potential to go far beyond 1994.

From the statements made in that article, I’d say the complainant is right on target.
