Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer and her Republican opponent Carly Fiorina will square off Wednesday night in the only debate scheduled so far in a race that polls show is a toss up between the two women.
The hour-long event at St. Mary’s College in Moraga begins at 7 p.m. It will be televised on CBS affiliates up and down the state, including on KTTV in Los Angeles. The debate is being sponsored by the San Francisco Chronicle and KQED public radio and will be streamed live on both sponsors’ web sites. C-Span is also televising the forum.

watched the whole thing. I think Fiorina did great, all things considered. Boxer definitely feels she’s “above” having to “debate” to keep her job. Maybe she’s never really contemplated actually losing her seat until recently.
Should be interesting to see how the media portrays the outcome of this “debate”...:)
Don't forget to add the moderator (who cut Carly off mid point about 3 times, but clearly more generous to Madam Boxer).

Two things. Reagan was a governor and in today’s internet environment he would have been called a RINO because he signed the abortion bill as governor.... and yes, I know he regretted it later, but that would not have mattered in the 2010 puritanical environment.
Next come the fact checkers who will say Fiorina was lying but probably no fact checking of Boxer. After all she is SENATOR Boxer.

I agree 100% with vouchers. This would be a public-private system. Private system paid by the pubic. Schools would be better as they would compete for students and teachers alike. To help ensure that teachers do not lose their promised benefits, all public school properties can be sold off and the money to fund public pensions. Any teacher who cannot get a job will at least get their pension ensured by privatizing the property. Schools would become efficient. The teachers could own the schools as a collective, or as investors, or earn shares over time. Teachers could be responsible for a little bit more if they choose to, and have a lot more upside in their professional lives as a result.
Teachers should take all the tests students take. Teachers should take random tests given by other teachers from other schools. A U.S. History teacher should pass an AP History Exam, and, while I do not expect him/her to be able to do trigonometry one who does should earn more than one who doesn’t.
I do not favor mandatory anything. Nothing in life happens in a vacuum. Every circumstance needs to be judged on its own.
Bad teachers are often worse than petty criminals as you said they are stealing the future, the lives of their students. They need to be vetted.
Parents all too often use school as day care, unfortunately. Parents need to be more involved in the educational system. If more parents would go to their kids campus just 8 hours a month - 1 day a month - every school would reform themselves very rapidly.

Fiorina has an amazing facility with words and situational awareness. Boxer relies on notes.
Oh, I voted in an online poll at our local Sacramento TV station; and, Fiorina won the debate by roughly a 2 to 1 ratio. (Here in hyperliberal Sacramento!)

Oh don’t even start me on this! California was THE car capital of the world 40 years ago. Today I don’t think there is a single car company left.
California was THE aerospace capital of the world. Pretty much gutted, except for some parts and engineering mainly helicopter that I know of.
The politicians said it was OK and that California needed to get rid of those jobs to make way for higher paying better jobs. That was stupid. We could have kept both. And besides, when the industrial base leaves it is very hard to bring it back look at Michigan. We got lucky with technology but I don’t think California will recover well from this recession. 12% unemployment and it is just too difficult to start a new business in this state.
We are still the tech capital but I think that is mainly because those are low-overhead (relatively) industries and the people like to live in California. If they had to pay all the taxes and fees that hard industries pay they would bail.
I run a manufacturing business. I don’t want to say what but pretend it is a McDonalds (it’s not). I pay an annual permit fee for each piece of equipment in my business. It’s like a permit for the fryer, the oven, the stovetop, the coke dispenser etc etc. This is above and beyond the taxes for electricity and gas and water, above and beyond the sales taxes. It is a separate permit just to have those pieces of equipment. I pay about $6000 a year for those permits. It is insulting to me. I pay for the privelege of manufacturing in California and hiring Californians.
If the tech companies had to pay a permit for each desktop computer, or each router, or each server, they would bail out of this state. Why do I have to pay for my equipment which is used to generate jobs and income in this state? Does McDonalds pay a fryer tax? Does an accountant pay a calculator tax? I pay this tax because, as a manufacture, I am regulated by the AQMD and they need my permit fees to fund their enforcement and compliance of the regulations.
I am regulated by at least 20 different agencies and some of them are identical at the state, local and federal levels. Sure they each have their own regulations but why can’t the local regulator do the enforcement for the state and the feds too? Why do I need all 3 to do essentially the same job?

Yeah. I am not as entusiastic as you are but getting rid of Boxer has to be worthwhile. Getting rid of those entrenched left wing politicians is very important. Move the Senate to the right even 1 step if we can. Boxer has to go.
