Republicans have taken an unprecedented 10-point lead over the Democrats ahead of Novembers midterm polls.
A poll by Gallup gave the current minority party its largest lead of the year and its largest midterm advantage since the company started such polling in 1942, with 51 per cent of US voters saying they would vote Republican and 41 per cent saying they would vote for the Democratic Party.
Gallup, whose poll has previously served as an accurate guide to voter intentions, said the result suggests the potential for a major 'wave election in which the Republicans gain a large number of seats and in the process take back control of the House.
The Democrats have a 75-seat advantage in the House, but disillusionment with the economy and fears over the long-term effects of the countrys massive debt have led President Barack Obamas party to downplay their expectations.
Though a Democratic resurgence cannot be ruled out, the conventional wisdom is Washington is that they have run out of time to make a comeback. They may have to accept losing the House and hope to hang on to the Senate, where they currently have a 59-41 advantage. In July, Robert Gibbs, the presidents spokesman, acknowledged that the Republicans could win control of the House of Representatives in the crucial elections.
The timeline is too short now. People have made up their minds. Its too late to do the kind of big thing needed to turn this economy around, said columnist Bob Herbert.
The results of AP-Gfk poll suggested that many of the most involved voters those with the deepest feelings about issues high on the nations agenda are furious with the party in power. Just 35 per cent said the country was heading in the right direction, a number similar to

It doesn’t matter who votes.
What does matter is who COUNTS the votes!
This is bad.
The Republican establishment elitists will think that it’s all about them, and act just like they did before, ignoring the will of the people and continuing their efforts toward spending, earmarks, amnesty and the other stuff that got them thrown out in 2006/2008.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Flush the Grand Old Potty. Vote Conservative.
Trent Lott is still a lobbyist.
Bob Dole is still a lobbyist.
These noodle spined RINOs are counting on a lack of leadership.
I would just LOVE for the newly elected conservatives to send a package of cow manure to these RINOs turned lobyist.
This is great news, this is bad news. The McCain’s of the party will say this signals “Business As Usual”. I would be more encouraged if people started talking about repealing instead of fixing or defunding ObamaCare.
Not good. Percieved trashing makes ‘Rats desperate...
Spot on!
Remember in November: Defeat the ‘RATS then the RINO’s.(To achieve the latter, we must do the former.)
NO voting for 3rd party candidates! Doing so will just hand a victory to the DemocRATS!
Operation “Pummel Pelosi” engaged!
The definition of an elitist action was when the Federal Marriage Amendment came up for a vote.
The Republicans paniced and put forth a useless flag burning amendment as a poison pill.
“...and clearing the way for a CONSERVATIVE replacement for the commie in chief........I love it when a plan comes together...”
From your lips, FRiend...
Don’t forget to vote in NO-vember.
Victory is not enough, Democrats must have the MOST crushing defeat in history!
We need the kind of an election they’ll be talking about 100 years from now!
No, no, and no. Vote for the best GOP or conservative candidate with a chance of winning that we can get, and count on the large flood of conservatives who know that the voters are as mad as heck and not going to take it any more to keep the RINOs in check. We cannot pretend that there is no difference between the parties; the last 19 months have clearly proven otherwise, and the cost of leaving the socialist in our White House unrestrained by legislative limits is too terrible to risk.
Exactly. We must crish the Dems in 2010. Then we can clean out the RINOs in 2012 while we (hopefully) sweep some more socialists out of the Senate, targeting every single lib who voted for the health care takeover against the will of their constituents, but this year our focus must be on tossing the worst of the scum out of our congress.
“Vote for the best GOP or conservative candidate with a chance of winning that we can get...”
That’s how we got here. Flush the Grand Old Potty. Vote Conservative. Do it til we get rid of the indiscernible (R).
“Not good. Percieved trashing makes Rats desperate...”
That’s when they scurry out into the middle of the alley and you can plink ‘em.
Hmm, from the MSM outside the US. I guess the more timezones away the author is, the less biased.
It’s going to be a Republican blowout. We may very well win back both the House and the Senate. And to think, some were predicting the death of the GOP. If anything, it’s the Democrats who may go the way of the dodo.
