The Oval Office has gotten a makeover.
When President Obama addresses the nation on Iraq on Tuesday night, he will do so from newly redecorated digs. The look, which includes new and reupholstered furniture and new paint and wallpaper, is more modern and tends toward neutral hues of brown and taupe, rather than the gold and yellow tones favored by his predecessor, George W. Bush.
Gone is the sunburst rug that Mr. Bush loved so much; designed by his wife, Laura, he used to say it evoked a spirit of optimism. In its place is a more muted, mostly wheat and cream-colored carpet featuring the presidential seal in the center, and ringed on its edge with five quotations selected by Mr. Obama four from former presidents (Lincoln, Kennedy and both Roosevelts) and one from the Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Bushs yellow brocade couches have been replaced with two custom-made sofas of brown cotton that resembles velvet. They face a boxy table, fashioned from American walnut and mica, that features a fruit bowl not flowers as its centerpiece. There is a lone navy blue pillow on one of the couches, which pulls in the blue from some new, modern table lamps.
The new wallpaper is striped, gold and yellow, but the pictures portraits of Lincoln and Washington have remained, as has the grandfather clock. Mr. Obama reupholstered Mr. Bushs two mahogany chairs and kept the desk, called the Resolute, that every chief executive since Rutherford B. Hayes with the exception of Johnson, Nixon and Ford has used.
The makeover was not done at taxpayer expense; the White House said the costs were covered by the White House Historical Association, a non-profit group

I hope not.
I do hope they have the grace and good sense to save the lovely rug that Laura Bush designed so that it can go to the Bush library in Dallas. Knowing the 0s, they probably incinerated it.
And I shudder to think what the Oval Office looks like now, especially if Michelle or her handlers had any say in it. I hope grownups were in charge.
He wants to boost his audience. All the interior decorators will now be watching! I won’t be!
Is what’s-his-name going to have an American flag in the background while he and TOTUS speak tonight?
I’m not sure if we’re allowed to copy the photo here. But I must say, as the article suggests, it sure looks pretty dismal. Brown upon brown upon brown. Very dull.
And instead of a TV screen, the folks on one sofa get to stare at the folks on the other sofa. What fun. . . . NOT.
It’s a little bland, but it’s not bad. I had feared far worse.
They need some giraffe, lion and elephant figurines. Seriously, it looks like Africa colors. Blech!
When we kick Obama’s sorry criminal a$$ out in ‘12, they should put it back EXACTLY as it was.
The Marxist/Muslim has desecrated an historic room.
Seems Mr. Skittles is fond of brown.
It could have been worse. I was expecting red & green (a dash of purple and orange thrown in). As it is it’s not a shrine to Islam and really, that’s about as good as we can hope for. He’ll blend into the decor perfectly btw.
Well, as for the Oval Office and WH in general, I won’t say that it should be “bulldozed,” (see link below) but I do think that the Presidential Palace on Penna Ave should become a thing of the past—likewise the 50 mini-palaces in the several/many states.
Many reasons, but for one thing it is just not representative of a Republic.
Let them get their strokes serving we the people, and “their” (meaning the USA) country.
“Americans have been taught monstrous lies about Abraham Lincoln and all school books who portray him as some sort of hero should be burned. The Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC should be bull dozed along with FDRs. How many Americans know Lincoln literally tore up the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights?”

Could be worse. I was expecting orange and purple.
Oh My God...it looks like an ugly remake from the seventies....GAG!!!!
Shabby chic goes to Washington. Nice job, 0bamas.
Hmmm- room is brown and white. Just like Obama. And just as boring.
Bush was designed by his wife, Laura?
That is ugly. Anyone have a picture of it before the redecorating?
