Sarah Palin Celebrates Shabbat And Offers Echoes of Esther
THE NEW YORK SUN ^ | August 30, 2010 | By BENYAMIN KORN, Special to the Sun

Driving to Lancaster from Philadelphia Friday afternoon, my wife and I passed through a town named Ephrata. In was named after the town that, in ancient times, was part of the city of Bethlehem; today it is a thriving Israeli city of 8,000-plus. Friends and colleagues who were meeting us in Lancaster passed towns named Bethlehem, Nazareth, Lebanon, and Zion. Early Pennsylvanians believed, as many modern ones do, in the Divine promise that the exiled Jews would be returned to the land of Bethlehem and Zion. How appropriate, I thought, to help usher in our Shabbat with Governor Palin, an American political leader who, more closely than many, identifies with the Holy Land, ancient and modern.

The Pennsylvania Family Institute, sponsor of the weekend event with Mrs. Palin, is a Christian conservative advocacy group whose positions on many issues are at odds with the liberal social views espoused by many American Jews. In other words, not the community with which one might expect Jews to be breaking challah. But the Institute’s web site raises concerns that many Jews share — that rapidly-rising rates of out of wedlock births, juvenile crime and drug use, and sexually-transmitted diseases are symptomatic of "a culture that is turning its back on the family."

Independent-minded American Jews, like their Christian counterparts, are justifiably alarmed by these phenomena and are searching for ways to return stability and morality to American family life. It was to in support of this goal that my organization, Jewish Americans for Sarah Palin, set up a Shabbaton — a Sabbath gathering for meals, songs, prayers, and conversation — with the assistance of the Pennsylvania Family Institute, to be a part of their weekend with Mrs. Palin.

Echoes of Esther - If I perish, I perish!

Thank God for SARAH!

Amen to that! Esther and Ruth are two outstanding books in the OT. Apropo for Palin to be referred to as well.

As for you, onyx, you know I should be on your Palin ping list. ;-)

You can count me in as a Jew who thinks she should be President. There may be better choices out there, but I KNOW that she’d be better than the present occupant by a long shot, and would have been better on any number of issues than McStain.

My only concern is: can she actually be elected? I think that as time goes on that the answer will tend toward “yes,” for the simple reason that the leftists have gotten us in so much trouble, and have so much contempt for the average person and their traditional values, that things will go hard the other way. Reagan got elected in a similar manner...though he had much greater name recognition, greater governmental experience and had a lot more political favors owed to him. Also, while Reagan had a lot of hatred spewed in his direction by the press and media, the environment back then was a lot more civil (or, to be accurate, a lot less uncivil) than the present day.

Open question on the electability, not so on whether she’d be a good President. We’d certainly go a lot further in utilizing and developing our energy resources under Palin than any other President, and I’ll bet that very few overseas would be willing to mess with the U.S. or its allies. Israel would, for certain, be safer, and our special relationship with the UK would be restored. I wouldn’t much want to be in Chavez’ position in a Palin Administration.

I find myself in agreeement with almost everything you wrote, particularly that Reagan had more executive experience, but Sarah’s name recognition matches his and then some, thanks to the hateful lame stream media. The negative image they’re painted on her, is hers to overcome to make herself slam-dunk electable, and she’s making inroads and like you said, “as time goes on that the answer will tend toward “yes,” (because)the leftists have gotten us in so much trouble, and have so much contempt for the average person and their traditional values, that things will go hard the other way.”

One thing Sarah never includes in her considering the 2012 run is the obvious fact that the media will go nuclear on her. She knows this implicitly and couldn't care less. She regrets that it (the media smears) might be tough on her kids, but she's also patently aware that there is virtually nothing really worth having or doing that doesn't require sacrifice commensurate with the grandeur of the goal. She also knows that troubles and hurdles in youth produce strong, indefatigable adults. "It is the struggles of youth that builds strong wings." (From "The Butterfly's Tale")

If Sarah discerns through prayer that it is God's will that she run, she'll run. If not, she won't. Period. What the disgusting imbeciles in the media will do plays no role whatsoever, nor should it.
