WASHINGTON -- Albert Pujols spoke only briefly at the "Restoring Honor" rally on Saturday, where he was presented with the Hope Award for his actions and contributions off the baseball field. However, the slugger was happy to talk at length afterward about his decision to participate in the event.

I don’t follow baseball so I didn’t know that Albert was such a Christian, but since I have no real favorites, I’ll root for him to do well.
“It’s a great experience,” Pujols said. “Any time I have the opportunity to share with people the good news of Jesus Christ and what he has done, to me that’s what it’s all about, to be able to share that. I believe that’s part of my job.”
As for the criticism, which reportedly included a protest in St. Louis, Pujols said he had no regrets. He does not consider his presence to have been any sort of political endorsement. To Pujols, Saturday’s event was separate from Beck’s ideology.
He also emphasized the fact that the rally benefits the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, an organization that benefits the families of fallen Special Forces troops. Several times, Pujols noted that political rhetoric was largely kept out of the speeches on stage.
“Now, they [SOWF] have like $30 million, where they can support families,” Pujols said. “And if people have a problem with that, they need to look themselves in the mirror and say, ‘You know what? I’m the one that has a problem.’ It is what it is. I can’t control what people say. If I’m going to take some heat about the things that I believe and who I represent, then you know what? I take the heat. Just the same way that [Jesus] died on the cross for our sins to give us eternal life, he took a lot of heat. That doesn’t bother me at all.”
Pujols is a class act. My boys were already fans because of his baseball ability, and are even more so after learning of his faith and generosity.
I would more expect the "protest" be from the depnedent-class fourth generation welfare bunches in EAST ST. LOUIS.
Albert gets it.
I find it hard to read about Mr. Pujols, despite who he is and his good intentions, because of the similarity between his name and that of one of the great performers of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
Joseph Pujol was, and remains, truly unique and unforgettable as a performer.

I was watching Keith Olbermann the other night (someone else had turned it on) and he was complaining about Pujols attending the rally. He predicted that Pujols would leave in disgust after he hears a few speakers. Good one, Keith. How can one man be so wrong, so often. It’s uncanny.
So freedom of speech and freedom of religion don’t apply to baseball players? Over and over, the Restore Honor rally was publicized as nonpolitical. They (MSM) still drag their unpleasantness and divisiveness into it.

As a Reds fan I’ve always considered TLR to be one of the most despicable men in baseball. These are shocking developments to me. When I speak of TLR in the future I’ll delete a few of the magic curse words I generally refer to him with.

Yep. I’m not much of a baseball fan, but I always point my sons to Pujols as the example of a great man.
On top of this rally, his own charity and his vocal support for human life, Pujols married a woman who had a child with special needs and he adopted that child. You hear about all these professional athletes refusing to take responsibility for their own kids and this man steps up to take responsibility for another man’s child.
Long live Albert Pujols — save a spot for him in the Hall of Fame.
