NYT: At Lincoln Memorial, a Call for Religious Rebirth (Crowd Estimate)
New York Sl/imes ^ | 8/28/2010 | KATE ZERNIKE and CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON — An enormous and impassioned crowd rallied at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, summoned by Glenn Beck, a conservative broadcaster who called for a religious rebirth in America at the site where the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream” speech 47 years ago to the day.

“Something that is beyond man is happening,” Mr. Beck said in opening the event as the crowd thronged near the memorial grounds. “America today begins to turn back to God.”

It was part religious revival, part history lecture, as Mr. Beck invoked the founding fathers and the “black-robed regiment” of pastors of the Revolutionary War and spoke of American exceptionalism.

-snip-

Officials do not make crowd estimates because they are unreliable and can be controversial, but event organizers put the number of attendees at 500,000; NBC News said it was closer to 300,000, but by any measure it was a large turnout. The crowd stretched from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument.

Are you often given to non-sequiturs? Or is this particular one the resutl of your ignorance on the facts? I did not in any way address Alveda or the AMerican Indians so horribly treated as ‘manifest destiny’ worked it’s evil. Now, would you like to listen to Beck’s opening monologue and then reply to the question I asked of you?

Do you ever pull your head out of your anal cavity long enough to see how sowing discord among conservative groups is advancing the cause of the enemy? Or, do you really support the cause of the enemy?

Huffington Post is offering $100,000 for information which will destroy Glen Beck. Maybe you should take it to them if you are so sure it is true.

Welcome to the wonderful world of 21st Century Oprah Christianity. What is sad is in all the “we have to fight the Communist/Muslims/leftist then get back to religion” ranting folks are missing the point that it is this very weak approach to Christianity we have come to in the past 40 some odd years that have us facing the very battle everyone is so focused on.

Have you noticed that while I've literally seen two dozen or more FR posts over the past two years about how we all need to band together to fight...
Choice A: The socialists or communists (they're our "real" enemy)
Choice B: The Muslims (they're our "real" enemy)
Choice C: The Democrats (they're our "real" enemy) ...We don't have the Choice A & C-ers haranging the Choice B-ers over focusing on the "wrong" enemy...or vice-versa.

We don't see the Choice A & C-ers mounting their pulpit and telling the Choice B-ers to stay off the religious grass...that we're in a separation of church & state battle, & we'll get diluted if we go down that "what is religious truth" pathway.

If these folks were...
...#1 truly concerned about diluting their strength...
...and #2 Fearful that the great America they represent doesn't know how to multi-task, anymore [how many times have we seen Reaganaut's reminders, that Yup, we do know how to multi-task]...
...then surely we'd see the "Muslims are our 'real' enemy" posters putting down the socialist-communist Dems are our 'real' enemy -- & vice versa...but nope...their inconsistencies know no bounds...

What we see are lame 'well we didn't ask the religious correctness' of our fellow Johnny Marines when we took WWII Pacific Islands...

...Well, you didn't ask what their...
...political stripe was, either...
...nor their sexual orientation...
...yet that somehow doesn't stop us from speaking out vs. Democrats or the homosexual agenda.

Their 'Oprah' minds don't know their lame arguments would silence them into taking on the Dems & other social change agents.

The "real" multi-tasking WWII show of exemplary action is lost upon them. Real great nations have the ability to multi-task vs. trying to stampede others with their fear-mongering into false dilemmas. America the Great was able to fight simultaneously in the...

...Pacific theater...(open-water AND island warfare)
...North Africa theater...
...European theater on multiple fronts...
...fighting German u-boats on the open Atlantic seas

And what it all shows is how anti-Gospel a lot of them are. For if they understood the power of the Gospel, they'd realize how much of a difference it IS making in the lives of converting Muslims into Christians...and they'd realize the only 'real' hope to stave off the forthcoming Muslimization of Europe is for the Gospel to be proclaimed there in massive intensity.

But no. How many times on these threads this weekend have we seen the refrain, "No, we don't want the gospel here. This is a political battle."

Here is the Youtube video of Beck's opening monologue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX0EJ_GjC18

The releveant deceit comes beginning at about 3 minutes. Listen carefully, because what Glenn Beck delivers is nothing less than the propaganda spewed forth from the religion known as Mormonism. It is false and even has its own scriptures that they tout as 'another testiment of Jesus Christ'.

The Buddhist in China that goes his entire life living his religion because it’s the only religion he’s ever been taught or had access to.

Reno, the Bible is clear. If one who has NOT heard the word, but seeks after God with the knowledge revealed to him (Read Romans), God will make a way for that person to hear the Gospel (Ethiopian Eunuch,Cornealius, those in Macedonia, etc). I hear and read numerous stories from missionaries of peoples coming from remote areas to find missionaries because an angelic being told them to go. I suspect that there will be many in heaven brought to Christ in similar manners.

Again you don't answer the question...

I addressed you blather earlier, calling into question my long running conservative support is a sad way to avoid exposing your inability to answer for the most basic of questions. Is there a reason you must avoid dealing with things in a straight forward manner? What do you have to hide?

So whose head is anally compacted?

BTW the Huffington post bit is rather pathetic and shows that POLITCALLY Beck is on target. Something I agree with. But like I have told you there is more to the world that politics...

Like any well fashioned lie, Beck weaves his false story into the actual story of America. I'm sorry, but Glenn has taken the sad step of touting Mormonism beliefs and woven his christian lookalike Mormonism into the narrative of this continent 5000 years ago. It would not surprise me to find that LDS Utah has made a very large financial investment in the rally Saturday, to help proselytize for Mormonism in this most subtle and deceitful way at a most crucial time in our nation's History. ... Wrap strychnine in a large gum ball and chew it, and it will still kill you despite tasting great!

I like the idea I heard not to long ago that all men have the law imprinted on their heart. We know right from wrong and that good men will be drawn to Christ in their end despite not knowing his name.

I would not put it past them. Sadly I was like some here, gullible enough to just look past it just a couple of years ago.

Truth is enlightening.

You've proven that by dragging petty religious divisions into a political thread.

viggie - Beck himself stated that this rally would be to start a religious revival of national values. Since Beck HIMSELF inserted religion into the discussion politic, it is more than fair to examine the basis of his religious world views - mormonism, and to see if those doctrines are compatable / comparable with the doctrines of Christianity or not that Beck claims should be the basis for such revival. So before you waste every one's time with baseless accusations of religious bigotry, perhaps you should stop and think for once.

A lot of poeple think Catholicism is a cult.

I can see it now. Somebody claims Anton Levey's group is a Satanic cult. Then a poster like yourself pops up and says, "A lot of people think Catholicism is a cult." And that's suppose to somehow prove that Satanic group isn't a cult?

Believe me if somebody said "A lot of people think Catholicism is a cult" in reference to that Satanic group, guess what? That would defending that Satanic group.

Therefore, you have just in likewise manner defended the Mormon church.

So how long have you had this notion that you've been called to defend...
...a religion that teaches you can become a god...???
...a religion that teaches you can become a Mormon post-death via necro-baptism...???
...a religion that teaches you existed on some planet called Kolob after you were born to a Mom goddess...even though you "already" existed forevcer as a spirit/intelligence...and then you came down to this planet as an alien to inhabit a body???

I agree, and cited biblical examples. God so loved the WORLD. . . and is unwilling that any should perish. Therefore God will make a way where there seems to be no way for those seeking after Him.

MHG - I’ll have to listen to the link later, but if I understand you correctly, Beck recited Jaredite mythology from the bom in his speech?

It is true that Glenn did bill the event as a sort of religious revival. But a revival in the same sense of the word that our founding fathers used phraseology such as "endowed by our creator" and "God-given rights". Not a Taliban fundy type revival preaching "My God is superior to your God."

George Washington didn't pray at Valley Forge on behalf of Episcopalians, but on behalf of all Americans. Haym Solomon didn't sacrifice his personal fortune on behalf of freedom for Jews in America, but for everyone. And Glenn Beck didn't organize this event on behalf of Mormons in America, but to turn all Americans back to the values which made us great.

As such, you either supported what Glenn Beck did with this event or you didn't. Peeling off a particular religious sect for cheap shots in an event of this nature is akin to marginalizing our founding fathers because you do not agree with their particular brand of religion or the fact that they had personal imperfections.
