Highlights from Scott victory speech
Palm Beach Post ^ | August 25, 2010 | Andrew Abramson

Believe it or not, Rick Scott is your Republican nominee for Florida governor.

Here are some highlights from his victory speech tonight in Ft. Lauderdale:

“Remember me, the handsome bald guy? With a deep sense of humility, I’m here tonight to accept the Republican nomination for the office of governor of our great state of Florida.”

“The Republican party will come together, and the reason we will come together is our shared devotion to values that make America great.”

“Voters took a chance on me today. They know I’m not a politician. I didn’t come up through the political ranks. They know it was not my turn to be governor. But the voters also know this, that our state and our nation have been headed in the wrong direction for quite a while. People know that government cannot continue to expand, cannot continue to spend more than you make, cannot keep piling up record debt each and every year. It’s a mistake.”

Sink is a known crook, along with her husband.

They made their millions in banking, specifically from playing loose and fast with the law on overcharge fee’s.

She too has paid fines, though nowhere near the amount Scott’s company had to come up with to keep his rear out of the slammer.

Her background leaves a lot of attack points for our side to hit her with.

2010 is redistricting, we do not have enough seats in the House to keep the Dems from keeping their favorite crooks safe (Alcee Hastings ring a bell?). Having a Republican governor given the divisions assured us of having favorable outcomes.

If Sink manages to pull out a win, we do not have enough seats to overcome a veto from her, either.

Our worst case scenario came to light yesterday. We’re set up for an incredible Senator in Rubio, our best look like they are on the way to the State House and Senate. We have a strong AG in place. And, Allen West upped pressure on Klein 10 fold. All of this, accomplished when the FLRNC was falling apart, the Dems seemed to be winning over Fla voters to their side and the soap opera that is Charlie Crist.

We’re left with two choices now; one is handing the Governors mansion to Obama in a skirt.

I guess you do not get it.

No, I get it. I've got you all figured out. Here's what you said:

samantha comment #17

You're thanking God that more people, like you, will vote for an abortionist and socialist who wants to deprive you of your Second Amendment rights while telling you where and if you'll get the healthcare you need? She'll do this even though she's confiscating more of your money. This is your kind of candidate?

Now it appears you're against a person spending their own money as they see fit. Are you a supporter of McCain style campaign finance reform? What else is there about you that makes you a conservative?

It's obvious why you want to change the subject and rant about something other than your comment. It's time to explain your comment. Is this what you truly believe? Will you be supporting Alex Sink. You've already been defending her on this thread.

Does anyone know if a ballot is invalidated if the voters does not make a choice on every single race/referendum?

One thng to remember..both parties had competitive, highly publicized races..400,000 MORE voted in the GOP primary than in the Dem primary...That’s huge...McCollum, whether or not you supported him, ran a TERRIBLE campaign, culminating in the awful non-concession concession speech last night..BTW..he has not yet pledged to support Scott. McCollum failed to give the voters a reason to vote for him..I’d wager that if you polled the 100,000 or so who voted for McAllister, 80% would tell you that if given the choice between just McCollum and Scott..75% would have voted for McCollum..

Ok when do you suggest we start telling people not to support RINOs? After the election? People should know better by now especially being Republican. There is no room for Moderate Republicans as that equates to RINOs. If you want more of the same then I guess you are a die hard Republican, but for me I prefer new blood like a Rick Scott.

And it was people like yourself again (just like this case with the bogus lies the MSM hit jobs on Scott had an impact on him) that bought the BS line about Fred Thompson “not having a chance”, “no fire in the belly”, “he is too old” etc etc. that was all BS and I still see people like yourself as well as other Freepers still believing that falsehood that was spread by the media. If you cannot recognize it were the Dems and the MSM that were SCARED of a Fred Thompson so tried all the tricks to derail him while trying to get the weasels to win the primary ie. Romeny, Huckles, and McLame. Your failure to see how the enemy operates tells me you haven’t hearned anything since 2008 and are part of the problem than part of the solution.

“Scott led the fight, blah, blah, blah” so the Clintons came after him? Give me a break.

You need a break from the truth? Yes, Reno targeted HCA after Scott worked to shut down the effort to socialize medicine by Hillary Clinton. Scott's leadership was decisive in the battle against Hillary. You should read more and rant less.

They went after dozens of companies, and Scott’s was the biggest with the most fraud.

Yet not one employee within HCA was ever convicted of fraud. The evidence must have been damning. Or, maybe the government was just doing another shakedown. It's amazing to me how some supposed conservatives will reflexively back government when it comes to companies they perceive as bad. Government good, industry bad. What a crock.

Nor did Scott know his doc-in-the-boxes were having MDs sign claims for services actually rendered by nurse practitioners

Good thing our laws are concerned with what can be proven rather than the feelings of a bunch of industry haters.

It the “throw the bums out” crowd wants to let the Pied Piper come in with his millions and buy the nomination based on his “conservative” principles, so be it. You get what he paid for.

Government = good. Industry = bad. People with money = bad. Got it.

By the way, how many abortions did Scott say his hospitals performed? I forget the number

Will you also be supporting Alex Sink who will legislate the continuation of abortion, while taking your guns, controlling your healthcare and picking your pocket? Such a conservative......

If McCollum pulls a Charlie Crist, his ruined reputation only gets more laughable, and only then may Alex Sink have a chance at winning. As far as I see it, this is Rick Scott’s election to lose.

Haha you called McCollum... Mitch. Not sure why, but I see much of the career GOP like the good ole boys club, and I sort of think that a Mitch McConnel and a McCollum are cut from the same cloth. They sort of all have the same kind of look not facial features but the demeanor I guess. They all seem to have that southern monotone speech thing going for them?

Hell at least McConnell and Boehner are solid conservatives, but they still come off as the Good Ole Boys party career types. Let's hope they stay conservative and don't get soft being Washington.

I shook Fred Thompson's hand and looked him straight in the eye, one-on-one, shortly before he entered an enthusiastic campaign reception. His wife Jeri gave me a warm hug. Fred looked tired and disengaged, if not disoriented.

I watched Jeri working the reception like a pro, while Fred quietly, and surprisingly quickly, disappeared from the room. Fred did not have the enthusiasm and vigor needed to wage a presidential campaign. I was there. Yes, I know what I am talking about.

If you are an ambassador for candidate Rick Scott, I am not impressed.

I do not rely on the media to tell me how to vote or who to support - I vet candidates myself, and that does not mean taking them for their yearly shots.

Anyone with half a brain could see Fred ran a disengaged, lazy, unenthusiastic campaign without even having to hear that from a single talking head.

To claim Fred lost because the media turned his wonderful campaign into a geriatric side show is as ridiculous as someone on this site who continually calls Rubio a coward, a RINO, blah blah blah because this poster supports a joke of a 4th tier candidate.

If you are implying a candidate running for presidency has to kiss ass and do the stereotypical photo-ops with babies and handshaking with lobbyists giving them backroom deals and stuff like that, I appreciate Fred Thompson is above that chicanery and does his campaign HIS WAY. Unfortunately some people like yourself have to judge a candidate by how they are measured to past presidential campaigns and how well they glad-hand the common folks.

There comes a time when we have to stop thinking about blind support for the Candidate (no matter that his unethical stench would gag a buzzard)just because he has an R next to his name. We are no better than the Democrats that put up a blind eye to every Clinton lapses of judgment and ethics. If this is how low we have gone down. Scott needs a huge number of Republicans to vote for him, and it will not happen. One of the most important factors is Greer and Crist together through corruption took the RPOF down, and in the melee of corruption this Criminal (Scott) and his stolen fortune slipped in. Thrasher, the RPOF chairman is wearing two hats and that is another factor. More and more Scott seems like “Soros” candidate. Mcalister certainly was a spoiler and right now I feel like the Stench of Scott is tainting all Republicans.

Are you saying Fred Thompson left the reception to negotiate back room deals with lobbyists? Very interesting. We thought he was simply going to take a nap while his wife campaigned for him.

4th tier candidate? Thompson was one of the only conservatives on the ticket that had name recognition and could have had mass support but everyone was misled by moderates like Romeny and Hucklesby and don’t forget McLame.

No I am saying just the opposite, he didn’t have time for the BS that superficial voters look for in a candidate and I respect him for that.

Blind support? Give me a friggin break.

I’ve been all over this site and other places pulling for McCollum against Scott and have every intention of working my ass off to make sure Sink does NOT win.

I will support Scott simply because he has a R after his name and we have WAY to much to lose in 2010.

Like it or not, reality has set in and we’ve been handed the worst possible scenario in the Governors race. Either you can roll over and allow the Dems to control redistricting, your health care, immigration, taxes, Obama policies and the progressive agenda or you can support support the GOP primary winner.

Sitting out is a vote for Sink; that is reality regardless of how bad the taste in your mouth is. Personally, the thought of giving him a vote sickens me and my husband.

Unless Scott goes under indictment prior to November and the RNC is able to legally put McCollum on Novembers ballot, we’re stuck with Scott.

This is not a principles be damned issue for me. My principles will NOT allow me to support anything Obama and his anti-American psychophants are for and they’ve made taking the Florida Governors office a top priority.

I’ll have to figure out how to pick up the cleanest end of the piece of sh*t; I will NOT vote against my country which will happen if we do not keep the Gov. seat in GOP hands.

If anyone is blind its those who do not realize how bad Sink would be if she and the DNC are handed Florida.

Your BS about superficial voters is exactly why you can never be taken seriously. Informed voters seek out the candidate in person, as opposed to lamely watching 30-second sound bites in skillfully produced Hollywood commercials.

Let's talk about campaign funds. In your myopic world, only ultra-wealthy know-it-all elitists should ever bother to run for elected office. If you can't buy the election, don't bother to apply. This way, the candidate won't have to waste precious time getting to know constituents, understanding their issues, or raising campaign funds like the little superficial people.

What a Maroon, and a lousy ambassador for candidate Rick Scott you are.

I'm not saying candidates don't need to know their constituents. Hell there were countless pictures of Thompson on the campaign trail talking to folks. What I am saying is people that would feel snubbed because, "He didn't talk to me, so I'm not voting for him." That's pretty superficial wouldn't you agree.

Also I am not an ambassador for Scott at all. I just can't see how anyone on FR would have ever wanted a wish washy flip flopper like McCollum asgovernor. I think those people need to realize what went wrong in 2008 and ask themselves why they are making the SAME mistakes again in 2010.

Scott needs to do what Allen West did - run his own ad about what happened. West put it out there for all to see and hear. That should shut up the opposition. He needs to go on the offensive.

Was all that nonsense supposed to be a refutation of what I had written about Scott previously? If so, it sure missed the mark.

The Satanic (oops, I meant Solantic) scandal unfolding around Scott promises to be a real doozy. He can’t run and hide forever. And he can’t buy every vote in Florida, or even just half of them.

No, I don’t like Sink and what she represents. But when the primary gets highjacked by rich con men I have to step back and reassess the situation. I suspect it will not be pretty.

So you man the barricades. I think I will be sitting this one out.
