Republicans shouldn't engage in personal attacks against President Obama or other Democrats on the campaign trail, a top House Republican said Wednesday.
Conference Chairman Mike Pence (Ind.) pressed his party to attack ideas with which they disagree, but to avoid attacking opponents during an election cycle that has been noted for its heated rhetoric.

Your arguments are pure strawman... no one here is saying to make our attacks all personal... but personal attacks have a time and place to be used in the coming election.

If you think that the Willie Horton ad was a personal attack, you are wrong. It was an attack on Dukakisis’ record.
Attack the person’s record.
Make Obama respond to 9/11 victim families who are opposed to the WTC mosque. Make him respond to the unemployed, the people who cannot afford his personal mandate, etc.
But don’t get personal. I think that is what Pense is saying (at least what I am saying).
There are plenty of straw men on this thread.
Pence says, “No Personal Attacks” and people automatically assume that mean “No Negative Ads” and not making the dems accountable.
Those are different things.

Never bet against Republicans being outwitted - Ann Coulter

It seems Pence has bought the mealy mouthed worst idea of Bush called "the new tone"
That's how I read it.
Red, White and Chew...
Agreed!
Yeah, that will win a lot of elections. (rolling eyes)
I thought we were having a serious discussion.
Guess not.
RNC = Doormats. They Republicans are playing by Queensbury rules and the Communists are playing schoolyard rules and kicking their ass.
Wrong.
Most voters are idiots. Really. They vote based on feelings rather than logic. They do NO background research on candidates or platforms.
Democrats DEPEND on this and work at manipulating the feelings of the mushy middle. “Its for the Children, for Less Fortunate,...”
And, in case you haven’t noticed, it works.
Pubbies need learn to manipulate the feelings the “mushy middle” just like the Democrats do. If personal attacks against Obama and Democrats work, then, by all means ATTACK!

I probably will, I have no illusions that our parties leaders will grow a pair once January rolls around.
What I do know is this - we are sending to DC people who can light a fire under their asses. Allen West as example. We’ve had enough “wins” to send a clear message to our party.
That does not mean we can be complacent. We will have to kick them in the ass, multiple times a day if needed.
From the new blood coming into the party, an active and engaged electorate who will demand they fulfill a mandate to REPEAL REPEAL REPEAL and fix the mess, may we have a chance.
Thanks. Your link offers you no support and also brings up

which demolishes your assertion. Too funny!
And Ann Coulter's willingness to attack is what makes her so much more effective than the GOP weak sisters.
The ad not only targeted the positions taken by Dukakis, it (deservedly) went after his actions:
MALE NARRATOR: Dukakis not only opposes the death penalty, he allowed first degree murderers to have weekend passes from prison. One was Willie Horton who murdered a boy in a robbery, stabbing him 19 times.

We are arguing with a dim plant... not very good at it is he?
