Blagojevich guilty on false statements count (jury hung on other 23 counts)
ABC/WLS Chicago ^ | 8-17-10 | Paul Meincke

Posted on 08/17/2010 2:45:08 PM PDT by STARWISE

Former governor Rod Blagojevich was found guilty on only one of 24 counts against him. The jury appears hung on the others.

The guilty verdict was on Count 24: providing false statements to officers. After the reading, the jury was thanked and asked to return to the jury room.

*snip*

Before the verdict was read, Judge Zagel said that there may not be verdicts in all 24 counts with which Blagojevich is charged -- and that any counts dealing with forfeiture will be dealt with on Wednesday morning.

He lied, but so did Bill Xlinton.

So NOTHING will happen to him.

Worthless bunch of politicians.

Hey, the 9th Circus has just declared false statements to be constitutionally protected free speech, so even that count could end up voided.

Someday’s you just gotta laugh to avoid drowning in the tears.

I take it he won’t be sent to jail on the 1 guilty count?

I bet if I was convicted of lying to the FBI that I’d have been handcuffed immediately and carted off.

A juror is already speaking!! Curious, as they were asked if they wanted to be interviewed after the trial, and they declined.

~~~~~~~~~~~
“But one juror said the panel was deadlocked 11-1 in favor of convicting Blagojevich of trying to auction off the Senate seat.
Juror Erik Sarnello of Itasca, Ill., said one woman on the jury “just didn’t see what we all saw.” The 21-year-old Sarnello said the counts involving the Senate seat were “the most obvious.”
Other jurors tried to persuade the holdout to reconsider, but “at a certain point, there was no changing,” he said.”
Osage Orange to STARWISE
There was at least one “ringer” on the jury.
No question about it.
Chicago politics....Nothing more, nothing less.
Lie, cheat and steal..!!!!
Think Obama, Rahm, Daley, etc...
They will retry Blagojevich since apparently it was 12 to 1 for conviction. Did somebody get to that one juror? Reminds me of J. Gotti trial. Maybe best this way since the retail will be close to the elections and hurt the Dems.
I hope Blago exposes Fitzgerald as the lying swine he is. Jesse Jackson Jr. was going to pay 6 million dollars for the seat.
Fitzgerald didn't want to bust good Ole Jesse's son.
I mentioned this on the IL Board but have you all noticed that Jesse Sr and Jr. have been MIA?
I voted against Blago both times, I admit I voted for that old hag, but I'm with Blago on this one. I hope he exposes the combine thugs for what they are.
Oh and another thing that came up on the IL Board, this is directed to DJ, what would be your opinion of me voting for Forrest Claypool over the other RAT? I liked that Claypool stood up to the most corrupt person to run Cook County besides his son, John Stroger.
I'm seriously considering voting for a democrat for the first time in my life, just because I despise the Stroger family so much. This County sucks, I got pulled over for BS, there are more Cook County Cops busting as many people as possible so that they can give more money to Todd Stroger to hand out to his relatives!
I HATE this county, atleast cigarettes are cheaper in Will County and it's only a mile away from my house....
I have to admit that the whole press conference beginning with Blago, then Blago’s lawyers then Fitz, was the most entertaining television I have ever seen.
You can bet your bottom dollar Blago will try and get the White House involved in trial 2.
They "collectively" declined to speak. Individually, it's another matter entirely. /s
I suppose, if Fitzgerald team put forth an argument regarding 17th amendment, this lady might have been convinced that "selling" a Senate seat is a big deal.
Another argument may be that wanting to sell an "unexpectedly" available Senate seat is not in and of itself a crime (a daydream, maybe) and that eventually, the seat was not "sold" so there was no transaction, and therefore the crime not actually committed... Don't know if there were discussions in the jury about that, but it would give credence to the argument that Fitz pulled the trigger too soon.
Heh... good for Blago... good for us in November. Thanks STARWISE.
Sam Adam, Sr. mentioned the countless number of objections during the trial. Did you pick up on that during the presser?
Yeah, but by far the BEST line ever in the whole thing was "What about Tony Rezko?", Sam Adams, "Who's Tony Rezko?"
I was dying of laughter. This is great, takes our mind off of the state being bankrupt, the multiple shootings each night, worrying about having my store broken into for a third time because crime is out of control in Crook County, and on and on and on...
VERY sorry about your store ...
I enjoyed the Rezko line, but I am trying to get a handle on the defense line of questioning. Adams mentioned 80 objections per day ... is that right? Is that why they didn’t put on a defense ... or was the fix already in with the lone dissenting juror and the defense was grandstanding?
Don't worry about the store luckily the alarm and cameras scared them away, but it doesn't help living in one of the worst counties in the US.
I really would like to hear more about the lone juror. From what I am reading 11 wanted to convict him on everything and one lone juror refused.
Makes ya wonder, but this is Chicago!
During the live feed, it was stated the jury list was released. We should soon know.
Can someone please ping me when the holdout is outed?
