A Harris County jail inmate awaiting trial on a murder charge allegedly beat a young illegal immigrant accused of robbing and fatally shooting a 14-year-old girl in the back as she was walking home on Aug. 6.
Melvin Alvarado, 22, one of two men charged with capital murder in the death of Shatavia Anderson, was beaten Thursday evening, sustaining serious enough injuries to be hospitalized and receive stitches, said Alan Bernstein, of the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Accused in Alvarado's beating is Robert Williams, 38, Bernstein said.
A volunteer inmate crew at the county's jail on San Jacinto entered Alvarado's cell about 5:30 p.m. Thursday to clean it during the one hour a day he is allowed out of it.
Williams "pushed his way" inside the cell and assaulted Alvarado for "a few moments," Bernstein said.
A detention officer pulled Williams off Alvarado, but not before Williams beat him, leaving him with cuts, swelling, bruising and injuries to a right eye and left ear, Bernstein said. He was unsure which particular injury required sutures or how many were required.
Alvarado, who is in the U.S. illegally and has been twice deported, was taken to LBJ Hospital for treatment. Alvarado was back in a cell Saturday at a different jail, on Baker - and treated in the medical unit there, he said.

Sounds like they got off to a good start before they were interrupted.
Mixed emotions on this one.
On one hand, this guy deserves all the punishment that can be meted out to him. On the other hand, the man delivering the punishment is a suspected murderer himself.
Hard to feel good about any of this.
While I have no sympathy for this unhung murderer and think he should receive the death penalty, this is a national disgrace.
We jail people first to keep them from running, then, if convicted, because they were sentenced to confinement.
We do not sentence them to be beaten or sodomized, and our failure to prevent such things is inexcusable.
Just because you’re a crook doesn’t mean you’re not a patriot;)
black vs brown?
The invasion of Sicily may not have met with the success it did had the OSS not gotten into bed with Lucky Luciano.
The reason we may have “mixed emotions” on something like this is because the government doesn’t enforce the law. If this illegal had been deported and stayed deported (that is, the border was secure), he wouldn’t have kept coming back in to commit crime and the little girl would be alive.
Vigilante justice, while emotionally satisfying, is dangerous to endorse or excuse. We don’t even know why Williams did it—perhaps he just hates Latinos or maybe voices were speaking to him.

I got mixed emotions on this one also.
Definitely. I'm sure it was a revenge driven event.
Look, if someone wants me to cheer for the prisoner-thug who beat the illegal-immigrant-prisoner, they can forget it.
That is not “justice” in this country.
Yes, the feds and the courts are not doing justice for the American people when it comes to illegal immigration, but vigilante justice in our prisons is no answer, it never is.
He didn't get killed that time, but he will eventually because NO ONE wants this puke walking around near them ~ and some prisoners remember they have rights.
BTW, this happened to Eric Daumer, the Maneating Man from Milwaukee. The prisoners nailed him for good. Jail is one thing. Being locked up with a cannibal isn't in the law!
In China this pair would get swift justice, their last vision would be the inside of the ‘organ donation truck’ aka the mobile death unit. Their young body parts would go to save needy citizens.
Give the American who kicked the crimalien’s ass 30 days off for PROPER behavior.
You mean Jeffrey Dahmer? Or was there another one I don’t know about?
Jeffrey Dahmer should have received the death penalty.
He didn’t.
It is therefore wrongful to allow him to be murdered in jail.
If we don’t have the stones to execute him, we definitely shouldn’t be relying on criminals to do it for us.
“
American criminal kicks illegal arse.

Sometimes justice is served out on this earthly plane.
Even in jails and prison.
But ultimately when they end up in the “next phase”.
