You don't need the U.S. Misery Index to tell you that things are bad in the U.S. Unemployment is near or at all-time highs in many parts of the country, foreclosures continue to happen at unprecedented rates and there are some very real indicators that we are heading toward a double-dip recession.
Some of us should count our lucky stars, however. In certain U.S. cities, life is much worse for residents than in other areas of the country. Using a variety of criteria, including unemployment rates, health data, the number of foreclosures, crime statistics, climate and other measures of misery, WalletPop came up with its unofficial list of the 10 worst cities to live in. This list is far from comprehensive, but there are some significant reasons why these cities made the cut. Read on.

Yes there is, because Scottsdale, Arizona is one of the best places in America for normal, sane, American citizens to live. I don't think Phoenix or even Las Vegas belong on this list, which should really be filled with Detroit, East St. Louis, Camden, NJ, Gary, Indiana, and other liberal social policy-spawned vacation paradises.
And if you drive through these cities it is amazing how many "young retirees" are standing, sitting, sleeping in doorways while contemplating their next investment moves.
LOL, but what they’re aren’t saying is it would be 10 even in a roaring good economy.
I don't know what a "carry-in-supper culture" means. I did search via scroogle for that phrase, and I only found one instance, where it seemed to be used in a manner synonymous with a potluck dinner. Is that it?

I lived in Piedmont just outside of OKC for 7 years and it is a wonderful place and a wonderful state.
This is a subjective garbage entry on the list. The others I understand but this is simply wrong.
To be fair, El Centro is not directly on the border and the people there — that is 20+ years ago — were very nice. But you talk about weather — yikes!

Yes, heard of them all as well as Pennzoil and the good Edwin(?)Drake who, I believe, made the initial discovery of oil in the US in western(?)PA back in the 1800’s.
But, did I not pretty well state the problem as government(state and local), relative to drilling/lack thereof, under pressure from greenies?

Go, Tom Corbett-he cannot be any more pro-drilling than I; but, I’m not running for PA governor, or any other office. And, more power to you fine folks from the great state of Pennsylvania-may you reap great quantities of dollars from drilling leases and subsequent royalty payments even if it is from mineral sources across the Susquehanna or Delaware.

One of the most popular food booths at the annual spring festival for our kids’ Catholic school is the one serving Mexican—it’s yummy :) Of course, so is the Chinese, and the German...can’t forget the deep-fried Oreos and Snickers.

Our Hispanic Ministry does a lot of business at the church festival. I’m renting them a generator this year, because their electric skillets kept tripping the breaker last year.
Mmmm, I’m hungry just thinking about Hermana Silvia’s enchiladas. I need to boot Young Bill, the slender and elusive youth, off his SAT prep to start making supper!
My mil makes some fine enchiladas, and she’s of Irish descent ;)
We’re having fish, fresh corn on the cob, cole slaw, and some strawberry shortcake for dessert. Duty calls...
