I don't know what a "carry-in-supper culture" means. I did search via scroogle for that phrase, and I only found one instance, where it seemed to be used in a manner synonymous with a potluck dinner. Is that it?

Yes, carry-in is the same as potluck or covered-dish supper. Popular at church events.
