GOP cash woes threaten fall gains
The Politicio ^ | August 6, 2010 | Jonathan Martin

The Republican National Committee is entering the fall election season with dire financial problems and, to an unprecedented degree, will be forced to rely on outside groups to fund activities traditionally paid for by the national party.

While embattled RNC Chairman Michael Steele and a top aide sought to use the party’s summer meeting here to publicly put the best face on the cash shortage, senior Republicans expressed grave concern behind the scenes that their fundraising deficiencies may be the difference between a good election year and a great one.

With $11 million on hand at the end of June — and about $2 million in reported debt — the RNC’s paid get-out-the-vote (GOTV) effort will be limited to just targeted House races, POLITICO has learned.

And the committee is only going to be able to spend money on those relatively inexpensive House races, thanks to a $10 million line of credit that was approved at the meeting here. Until then, said one incredulous Republican, there was no money available for paid GOTV activities like mailers and automated phone calls.

Even with the line of credit, though, the party can’t afford to assist their many gubernatorial and Senate candidates with any dollars for paid voter contact and will have to effectively outsource that operation.

More spin from Jour-O-Listo/Politico.

Just a way to get conservative base depressed. Don’t buy it.

The RNC is irrelevant. Steele is a closet Obama fan who would like to run all RINOs all the time. Sarah Palin makes him irrelevant.

GOP cash woes threaten fall gains

You mean the gutless wonders?
The cojones-less enablers of the mess we're in?
The idiots who awakened only after most of us started making ALL INCUMBENTS OUT!! noises?

Those RINOs?

I will not contribute a cent to the current GOP. I will contribute to individual real conservatives.
Believe it or not, most of us can tell the difference.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!

I tell the RNC callers the same thing... stop funding RINOS... well that or I tell them I’ve spent all my money on ammo, liquor, cigarettes and hookers.

I stopped giving to the RNC after they screwed up the 1994 win.

They wish!

It's very real. Most Freepers don't want to donate to the GOP. They donate directly to conservative candidates within the GOP. Steel has been poison and this failure is directly due to his feeble leadership.

“If people don’t want to give to the RNC, NRCC or NRSC, they can find good conservative candidates who have a good chance of taking over a DEM seat and donate directly.” Amen, Brother. That is what we have been doing for nearly two years now. We are Tea Partiers and we have been working for over a year to get out the local vote. No $$$$ to the RNC, just notes to get rid of RINOs and we will open our wallets again.
....not likely! Get out the vote and pray!

thank you all tea partiers; all the work starting from B. O. (before obama) has given us a chance where there shouldn’t have been one (lots of these rinos and repubs were saying stick a fork in us). i bet you’re all like me haven’t given a dime to the RNC in all this time but you’ve given hundreds or thousands on your own dime. my take: now that the primaries are wrapping up, the next push for me will be to dig deep and give, yes more money, to conservative house members individually to take to defeat the so called blue dogs (you know we have all preserved lists of them after the months of battling obamacare and giving money to the specials), the RNC will give to their cronies, we need to make sure that the conservatives survive.

the senate is still basically untouchable for at least two more years due to the safe rinos there. anyway my year watching the senate is wrapping up. i’ll have a very few there to support like Angle, Lee, and maybe JD, and Miller, (we lost Devore and Tiahrt, too bad). my two cents: the main thing we had to with the senate was to get rid of what every rino we could take out. and we were partially successful. we got spector. we got r. bennett. we’re still trying to get mccain. we hobbled graham, snowe, collins and the others (i know you’ve got your list) by getting rid of spector and silencing mccain until the primary is over. brown turned out to be no help (except for psychologically damaging the statists, too bad but not really surprising). and don’t forget we basically got dodd and byah (bye, bye) on the otherside and maybe more. the problem is the others aren’t even up for election. they need to leave the party or leave, period. still lots of work to do in the senate but not bad, not bad.

focus switches the house. that is where we can continue our holding action. that will be our waterloo if we lose or hopefully our trenton, or midway, or dunkirk if we win or get really close. if we live to fight another day after that, then the real work will begin!

That’s why we all need to donate to our local candidates and whichever conservative candidates we know about across the country.

My statement meant that the Dems weren’t going to win simply because the Repub party has little money. This is a lefty Politico article that’s spinning for the Dems. Voters are primed and ready for Nov. Unless there’s massive fraud, Nov is going to hurt the liberals.

The days of Money = Exposure are gone.

24/7 News and Rush fill the gap these days.

Plus I don't recall a boatload of money helping Ms. Huffington's old squeeze.

Usually money does help exposure but this cycle, the voters are looking for ANYONE but a “D”.

I should have written clearer.

Yes...money still equals exposure, but it is no longer the only way.

Oh I understood you. I was simply adding that no amount of money will help them this time. Voters are too angry.

“All they have to do is admit they are being run by RINOS like Steele, Mccain etc...”

My problem with Steele has nothing to do with the fact he’s a RINO.

My problem is that he has proven himself to be incredibly less than competent as RNC Chairman.

That lack of competency has hurt the RNC’s fundraising abilty.

I’ve stopped giving to the RNC, too. My point is that Politico is spinning the negative (imho positive) news around Steele’s fundraising failure and ignoring the massive amount of dollars that are going directly to GOP candidates and PACs.
