Senator John Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat, was sure to point out to me on Thursday that the "Isabel," his 76-foot $7 million luxury yacht docked in Rhode Island, is actually not a yacht, but simply "my sailboat."

There’s a dingy joke here somewhere....
Say what you want about Kerry, but the guy has exquisite taste in sailboats. The Friendship 75 is a vessel with few equals. I had the opportunity to sail on a Freindship 53 a couple months ago and it was quite simply the most beautifully crafted sailboat I have ever had the pleasure of boarding.
Interestingly, it seems all of the information on the Friendship 75 series has been removed from Friendship’s website. I wonder why that is. /s
Ah, you just saved me some frustration. I was going to go check out the “sailboat.”
But 7,000,000 ? That’s quite a chunk of change.
Kerry is a big fat joke if he thinks we buy "his sailboat." He can take his fake humility and shove it up his grommet.
Mr. Kerry took heat for mooring his boat outside of his home state at a Rhode Island Marina, because, according to a report from the Boston Herald, it enabled him to avoid paying about $440,000 in Massachusetts sales taxes and $70,000 in annual excise taxes. Political observers in the media were quick to point to Rhode Island’s 1993 repeal of taxes on the sale and use of yachts.
On Tuesday night, Mr. Kerry’s office released a statement remarking that he would pay the full amount he owes to the state of Massachusetts.
Monty Python:
Specialist: Come in.
The door opens and Raymond Luxury Yacht enters.
Specialist: Ah! Mr Luxury Yacht. Do sit down, please.
Mr Luxury Yacht: Ah, no, no. My name is spelt ‘Luxury Yacht’ but it’s pronounced ‘Throatwobbler Mangrove’.
Specialist: Well, do sit down then Mr Throatwobbler Mangrove.
Mr Luxury Yacht: Thank you.
Specialist: Now, what seems to be the trouble?
Yes, it is. But, I guess when you're married to a billionaire - who married a Republican to become a billionaire - what's a paltry few million. He probably spends more on hair-care products each year.
Having said that, $7 million is on the VERY high side for a 75-footer. Of course, it is aluminum, which is much more expensive than the carbon fiber/fiberglass boats in the same class. It was made in New Zealand, but the fact of the matter is there just isn't a shipyard in the US that is capable of building an aluminum sailing hull that big, or rigging it. I suspect the $7 million was duty paid, FWIW.
I think you need a captain’s license to pilot a boat over 50’.
And the crew to sail this boat?
Too many people are missing simple details. Like the cost just to maintain it.
Tacky Eastern Establishment Yachting Liberal Doofus.
He should name his new yacht “Chad”.
Yeah, and everyone docks their tiny typical sailboat in RI to avoid 500,000 in taxes every year. How many people own enough of ANYTHING to pay $500,000 just in taxes each year?
Guy is so far removed from reality. I don’t even know why he cares, it’s his wife’s money that pays for the boat and the taxes. You’d think he have it right next ot his MA house, he could treat his wife’s money as if it were taxpayer money and go hog wild with it.
“The Hanging Chad.” Oh wait, that’s Gore’s boat.
