” .... law enforcement agencies and police officers express their unease ... “
Starting tomorrow, 29 July 2010, anyone, except felons, can conceal and carry here in AZ!
(as I understand the new law).
Just goes to show how dumb many cops are, I have had many more years of pistol training than most cops... they need to be educated by their department. I will sue any department that deprives me of my rights!!!!!!
...at CCW school we were taught to tell the officer at once that you are armed...then do exactly as he says...that way he stays calm and you do too.
WAIT!!!! This can’t be real... We all know that the police are JACKBOOTED THUGZ!!!!!!!!! (TM) and will viciously attack all citizens for no reason whatsoever. They don’t want people carrying CCW and they will look for any reason to shoot CCWers. [/sarcasm]
Other than a nervous DPS rookie in training during a traffic stop, every LEO I’ve announced my CCW to have been neutral or joking about how small it is (KelTec 32). I respond pass an Open Carry law and I’ll strap on a .41 Mag.
Yes they will.
So, if a cop comes out against CC, five will get you fifty you're looking at a scumbag. He'll probably end up on YouTube tasing some librarian or shooting a blind Latvian.
;-/
I’ve had 4 encounters with law enforcement here in CA over the last 10 years. 3 were for minor traffic issues in my local area, none of which resulted in citations. In CA we are required to notify we’re carrying. Not one of these officers even asked to see my weapon.
Once however, I was in the Oakland area outside my vehicle at a jobsite when I was approached by two chaps in a cruiser. They wanted to know why I was there. I told them I was carrying and presented my permit and license, to which they tackled me and removed my loaded Glock (without shooting thank goodness). They kept me there hours while they and whoever was at their office tried to find something to arrest me on. They eventually had to free me.
Not many (if any) CCW’s in Oakland.
Well i don´t know about the american kind of law
but here in (austria) europe it´s this way.
The officers asks you if you allow him to search you (of course only if he/she has not seen you commiting a crime “but they have to prove that they have identified you).
You can refuse this!
They will do it anyway but they will think twice before they do it because if they found nothing they are in BIG trouble. They are only allowed to search you if they say they have seen you! But when they have “seen” you and then don´t find what they have seen they are in BIG TROUBLE!
But for the gun it´s just common here to tell the officers.
Please search me and you will find a gun. “just for warning” No big deal as long as you have the “papers”.
And the police aren't citizens?????
Let's all say this together, "The police get paid to protect us. We do not forfeit our rights to protect them." This is especially true when it is just about making them feel superior.
But, but, but... I thought that the police were our friends, could do no wrong, walked on water...
The sooner folks realize that while the cops may not be the enemy , they are not your friends either, the better off society as a whole will be.
The head on the swivel thing is so true. I personally don’t do it and don’t understand why others do. But I can spot a CCW person in a bar without even trying. He’s the one drinking water, with a pocket knife pocket clip showing on his pants pocket, and looking around more than normal.
Good article, and very refreshing to read the reader comments on the site.
I question any judge or law enforcement officer if they think that citizens with guns are an issue. Law enforcements fineest friend is the law abiding citizen and to question this makes me wonder what yohr motives are and what you actually would do if some leftist scum politician gave you an “order” to disarm those citizens (Katrina)
They will be angry if you prone them out, spread eagle them against a wall, or take their firearm from them without just cause.
Yes, and only a jack booted thug would do such a thing.
My husband is a police officer here in Georgia. He has never had a single worry about law-abiding citizens carrying guns. It’s the others that bother him. He has also said that if the fed forbids weapons, he will never take a person’s guns who has not broken the law. He believes in the Constitution.
If it’s legal, police usually respect it. This sounds like ‘journoList’ liars put it out...
Interesting info on how LEOs detect CCW. I use a pocket holster with a mouse gun (P64 Makarov) in my strong side front packet the extra mag in the offhand front pocket. In light of this article I am thinking about going to a different system. I do find myself “adjusting” when I carry to avoid printing. Even the DeSantis pocket holster prints a bit when worn with slacks. I wouldn’t want some hyperactive LEO mmistaking me for a gangbanger because of my carry choice. Has anyone got any experience with the deep cover groin holsters he talks about? I’ve seen them on web pages but honestly they look pretty uncomfortable.
I have worked with thousands of cops and the entire time I only knew of ONE who thought that people should not have firearms.
I have pulled over many people who have carried and as long as they told me that they had a weapon everything worked out fine. They had given me no reason to fear them. It was the ones who had hidden one in the glove or tried to hide one fast under the seat that had problems.
Best advice. If you are stopped, keep your hands on the steering wheel. If at night, turn on your interior light and keep your hands on the wheel. You can explain that a PO told you to do this so no one would get nervous.
Then tell them that you have a permit CCW - and have a weapon (tell them where) .. no surprises. Just be polite and calm and they will be too.
Put yourselves in their position, they are pulling over someone that they do not know, you could be a real great person or running from a murder. They have no way of knowing. Just be FRiendly and calm.
