Many Republicans are still searching for that ideal 2012 presidential candidate someone who can fire up both the fiscal and social conservative wings of the GOP while luring swing voters. And, in recent months, the chatter has often turned to former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.
Bush apparently sought to quiet the murmurs today, telling a Kentucky TV reporter that he isnt running. Bush has said that since leaving office in January 2007 that he would focus on making money and advocating for education reforms, which were a centerpiece of his tenure as governor. Even as polls show that he remains popular in Florida, the countrys biggest swing state, many close to him and party strategists have assumed that the Bush family name was a non-starter so soon after the presidency of his unpopular older brother, George W. Bush. Jeb Bush waved off efforts by state Republicans to coax him into the U.S. Senate race.
But the 2010 midterms have served as a bit of a political re-coming out for Jeb Bush, who has traveled the country raising money for Republican candidates. Just this week, he headlined a fund-raiser Monday night in Louisville for GOP Senate nominee Rand Paul. He has also spoken out on a range of political issues, from economic policy to immigration.
Bush said today that his denial was hardly news. Asked why there has been so much speculation, Bush told Washington Wire via email: I havent a clue. I have not been running for a while and answer the question the same way every time.
But given the glaring demographic challenges facing Republicans, who tend to appeal mostly to white voters as the country grows more black and brown, Bush remains a tempting option. He speaks fluent Spanish, is married to a Mexican-American, and Latinos

Yep. I also liked his comment about cutting off Obamalamadingdong's gonads......
Trouble is, the GOP does not seem to have anyone out there, who is particularly interesting or person we can all fully support. I don't think Palin would do well; even though I would like to see her take on some of the good old boys/gals in DC, I think she is wearing thin already for some who were wild about her before. She has a place in government, but I just don't think it is in the White House.
I am looking at Bobby Jindal and wondering if he could arouse enough support with, maybe Eric Cantor as a running mate??? No one else really excites me or makes me feel they have the combination of strong leadership skills, administrative experience, good morals, and LOVE for our country versus being just an ego feeding politician. Any comments?
We need a candidate with spine, guts, and gonads like Jan Brewer or Michelle Bachmann. Eunuchs need not apply. The GOP has an abundance of Eunuchs.
Hate to bring this up but that was almost 30 years ago. Unfortunately, America is NOT the same country today that it was then. We have lost a tremendous number of the “greatest generation” and replaced them with the “I can sell you anything via TV” generation.
Sadly, you must always take stock of your army and decide what objectives are achievable. Hence my pessimism that I will ever see a President elected that I would be COMPLETELY satisfied.
The disaster was trying to get along with the radicals in congress, trusting them and caving to their agenda.
Conservatism is the natural order. Conservatism wins every time it's tried. Always has. Look at what is happening in Europe right now. They are several generations ahead of us in terms of the "gimme" mentality. Their Socialism is blowing up in their face and even the UK, where better than 50% of the population receives a check from the gubmint is turning more conservative with every passing day. The problem is we have very few true Conservatives around that are able to articulate the facts. Another problem is there are a LOT of people who claim to be Conservative, but are actually Progressives or Liberals. Casual observers can't tell the difference because they don't know what true Conservatism is. Learn the history. Learn the numbers. Teach everyone who will listen at every available opportunity. The facts are on our side. Sitting back waiting for another Conservative to magically come along is precisely what the Progressives want you to do.
BTW, FDR was almost 80 years ago and you don't see Liberals or Progressives miss an opportunity to bring up New Deal Progressive ideology or the Keynesian philosophy that prolonged the Great Depression by 10 years. The (not so)Great Society was nearly 50 years ago, but you never see Liberals or Progressives miss an opportunity to ballyhoo Medicare or Medicaid, despite the fact that both are dismal failures......
A lot of people I know including myself in Indiana want our Governor Mitch Daniels to run.
He is not an ultra-conservative like many here will only support, but he has done wonders with what he has to work with in this state. There is no single candidate that everyone will support, Mitch sure isn’t perfect but he would be a great choice to repair the fiscal problems Obama has foisted on us. (if that’s even possible at this point)
Herman Cain. Just sayin’......
You are correct and add Jim DeMint.
Yep, I could vote for DeMint. Imagine, a state that elects a true Conservative like Jim DeMint to the Senate also elected Lindsey Grahamnesty. Go figure....
When most kids were raised in a two family home, and schools stuck to “reading, riting, and rithmitic” there were fundamental Christian values and work ethic buried in there somewhere. Even if people got silly in their youth, they came to their senses later in life (see 60’s hippies that voted for RR in the 80’s).
Now days with most kids raised in single parent homes and schools thinly disguised propaganda centers, the kids come out without a fundamental basis of common sense. And there are millions more like that being graduated every year.
So I'm sorry, but I'm not expecting someone as conservative as I'd like to be electable in my lifetime. Maybe after a second great depression (which may be coming) or another World War (which also may be coming), but not soon.
His SEC lifted the "uptick" rule. Anyone with an MBA should have known where that was going. As Chief Executive it was his DUTY to call attention to the sub-prime mess and do everything in his power to stop it. Giving credit where credit is due he did mention it in a couple of speeches to Congress, but otherwise >>>>crickets<<<<<
Yep, and many of them will realize by the 4th or 5th year of the real world that all the touchy/feely crap they were taught in gubmint skool or kollege was a bunch of BS. The key to turning this all around is to use the knowledge you have to help these people with the transition. Some of them will be lost causes, but most can be swayed. I would agree that it might very well take another Great Depression or another world war to swing the pendulum and I also agree that both are not only likely, but probable. However, using every available opportunity to teach is the shortest route to restoring the nation to its founding principles. You are correct. The "Greatest Generation" is dying off. That's why it's up to us, the "next Greatest Generation" to get busy. If not us, who?
It is beyond me how anyone (besides Martha Bush) could have lived through 2008 and not have concluded it was a disaster. A rule of thumb is that a successful President leaves office with a high approval rating and his own party in power. Bush-or-die-ers had to make up all types of excuses why two elections were lost so badly with low approval ratings, like it was the media (will we be so quick to buy Obama’s excuses?)
A great example is Bush both promoted and took credit for getting banks to make loans to minorities with bad credit with the help of his progressive friends. Once it fell apart and the foreclosures took down the economy, the RINO party tried to start rewriting the history books to save Bush (and McCain) but it was too late. Voters could google the past statements taking credit for opening up the home loan money, all except the ones with the RNC filters on their browsers.
Of course once these poor minorities with bad credit lost the houses that Bush and Barney Frank got them which they couldn't afford, they blamed Republicans (especially with him bailing out the banks) , so it got us nothing but Obama/Pelosi. A lesson for those RINOs wanting to reach out with government $$$$ compassionate conservatism.
I started following Free Republic in 1999/2000. Used to be quite a few people who analyzed and gave good information.
What we have now is a collection of people who at the mention of anyone rush out to label them RINO's.
As a site that makes this place almost toothless as to any influence.
Good! We’re Bushed already.
Good points....I do wish he stood up for himself some times.
To quote our illustrious leader Jim Rob(although I don’t know how to post it in red ink like he did)
” Yes!! Bush is a RINO!! “
